    From Gibson.com:

5 Dead Musicians We Want to See Perform as Holograms:

Now that Tupac, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley have been immortalized via the hologram – a technology that creates lifelike three-dimensional images – it’s likely more deceased musicians will soon “perform live,” as well. Although it’s admittedly a bit creepy, here are five dead musicians we want to see resurrected as holograms. Who do you want to see given the hologram treatment?

    Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix left the world far too soon, leaving an endless number of guitarists and music fans without their guitar icon. While every seasoned guitarist knows Jimi’s work, a younger generation may only know the basics, having never experienced his flaming, blues-infused guitar style. It’s definitely an experience worth recreating.

    John Lennon

Decades after his tragic death, John Lennon’s messages of philanthropy and peace live on, and his songs still touch the hearts of music fans everywhere. Not only did Lennon become one of the most popular musicians in the world with the Beatles in the ‘60s, but he also enjoyed a bold solo career after the Beatles era. As one of the greatest popular musicians ever, Lennon deserves the hologram experience.

    Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash’s classic storytelling and raspy baritone are the heart of country music. Whether crooning songs of love, tunes of heartbreak or spirituals, Cash’s thick, gruff voice magnified every note and somehow gave it more importance, from his early work in the ‘50s to his social commentary in the ‘60s to his final recordings. Who better to bring back to life as a hologram than the Man in Black?

    Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana sparked a zeitgeist with 1991’s Nevermind and “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Then, with a swift gunshot, it all ended. Cobain took his own life on April 5, 1994, leaving an entire generation confused, heartbroken and without their musical leader. Seeing Cobain back as a hologram would be a thrill for the millions of Nirvana fans who never had the chance to see the pioneering grunge band live.

    Les Paul

Although the world lost legendary guitar guru Les Paul on August 12, 2009, his legacy lives on through his guitars that are played by millions of musicians each day. Everyone from Slash to Joe Perry to Jimmy Page has gushed about the unrivaled Les Paul guitar, so why not bring back the man who started it all?

I think the focus is obvious.

I would of course say SRV.

I would've said Freddie Mercury, but Queen has Adam Lambert now, so obviously there's no need.

I always wondered how a man who named his band Queen stayed in the closet at all....

But back to the topic at hand:

    Cash for sure.
    Sinatra
Judy Garland (She sang like an angel and was a babe)
    Schubert

    Re: You reincarnated who?

Those holograms just plain fucking suck and I hate them, but if I was to ACTUALLY reincarnate dead musicans, a few I'd like to see are..

Jeff Buckley. Here is a guy with an incredible songwriting gift and made one great album, Grace, before stupidly going swimming an unsafe river for no reason and drowning. I would have like to have seen what became of him, and his cover of Cohen's "Hallelujah" is the best version of that song that ever will be.

Echoing Shegirl, Stevie Ray Vaughn. To talk down about this man and his talent is nothing short of a crime against humanity. And echoing Dennis Leary "Stevie Ray Vaughn is dead, but we can't get Jon Bon Jovi in a helicopter?"

Elvis is probably my favourite music artist, but he didn't write any of his hits. He lime-lighted rock and roll and superstar eccentricities and I will ALWAYS love him for that, but him still being alive wouldn't have effected music itself that much. And if Kurt Cobain did't die, Nirvana will still NOT be headlining arenas and opening for the Chili Peppers just like when I saw them. Death made Cobain famous and a musical legend. That is a fact.

Frank Zappa. Zappa might be the deceased musician who I most regret never having the opportunity to see perform.

Brad Nowell. Sublime was one of my favorite bands when I was in high school, and I still enjoy listening to their self-titled album. He wasn't the greatest musician in the world, but it is a shame that Nowell died at 28.

Jerry Garcia. I only like a few Grateful Dead songs but it still would have been fun to see him perform.

Patsy Cline. She is one of my favorite country singers and is another one who left far too soon.

Jim Morrison. The Doors are another band that I wish that I could have seen in concert.

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. He was an amazing guitarist.

I had this conversation with my college roommate who was a HUGE Sublime fan. Nowell had such a self-destructive streak and was so up and down that I feel like he would have fallen off hard. It would be sad to see Sublime at a state fair.

It also unleashed Dave Grohl who is infinitely more talented, charismatic, and a positive effect on rock music than Cobain ever was.

Johnny Cash would be a decent suggestion if he didn't die in old age. He was in his 70s, we got A LOT of Cash.

    FOCUS:
Aaliyah - Its crazy how young she was. She had a ton of talent and charisma. Might have said us a bunch of dime a dozen R&B starlets taking her spot
Charles Haddon (lead singer of Oui Es tLe Swimming Pool)- Not a well known name, but a band I got into a few years ago, looked them up, and found out their lead singer committed suicide a few weeks before. Given the electro nature of pop music recently, they could have become massive.

    And, the easiest:
Scatman John- 57 was far too young for such a genius. I NEED a Scatman John hologram at Coachella next year. BE BOP BOP BA DUH BOP

Although I don't mind Duvall (he is a talented musician) Layne is an irreplaceable singing talent. I second this. So does a a large percentage of this board, my guess is they are one of the most universally admired bands on TiB. I was thankful to see them at 'palooza in 1993 (although Primus was better). As I was thankful to see Nirvana. I wasnt a fan, but believe me: they owned it live.

The Grunge/Alternative movement lost a lot of big dogs to drugs. Heroin was certainly bad but it didn't hurt our music collections, bank on that.

Fucking amen to that. No one can recreate the harmonies between Layne and Jerry. Merely being able to hit the notes isn't the same as sounding like Layne. I haven't purchased any of the new AIC stuff. Because half the original band is dead.

Couldnt agree more. Out of the big 4 grunge bands from that era (AIC, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden), hes probably the best vocalist (after Chris Cornell of course). Everyone waxes on about Kurt Cobain, but he doesnt hold a candle to Staley.

Given the circumstances, Jerry Cantrell hasnt done terribly leading the band since then and I even kind of like DuVall. But I agree that AIC was never ever as good as it was.

This is one of those questions that my friends and I have argued about many times (usually over drinks).

My position was, and remains, that they will never live up to the hype their death has infused into their legend. This is not to say that all of the above choices are bad, wouldn't perform well, etc. I just think it could never live up to our collective expectations. That being said, if I HAD to choose:

Bon Scott To see AC/DC perform the catalogue prior to Brian Johnson would be pretty cool.

John Bonham This is another band that is a favorite of mine, and I'd love to see perform live - I saw Page/Plant back in the 90's, and it was pretty amazing.

    SRV: No explanation necessary.

Robert Johnson: So much of the music I love is attributable directly or indirectly to RJ. Of any in this list, if I could make one happen, this would be it.

I want to say 'the Beatles' - but frankly I'm not sure how good they would be live. They stopped touring I think in '65, before their really influential stuff came out. This is not to say they weren't really great musicians, they were. But their creations relied heavily on the studio and George Martin. The stuff the individuals played live, whether it be Wings, Travelling Wilburrys, etc. is all good stuff, and they sound great. I just wonder if the mixture of the Beatles on stage would have been that phenomenal, or disappointing.

SRV, hands down. He was just possessed by the music. I watch this whenever I need inspiration -

Also, I'd like to riencanate Clapton, via 1967. He went from being an exciting, intense guitarist to a lame, same-blues-licks pop star and it sucks.

SGEDIT: If you take the "s" out of the http, the youtube tags will work for ya.

    Im going with this.

I think a better focus would be talking about seeing big shows before the famous people croaked.

I saw Pantera at Ozzfest 99 and the place went absolutely ape shit. It turned into the biggest mud caked slugfest Ive ever seen. I really don't remember much of the music trying to survive hundreds of huge hillbillies getting fucking crazy. James Brown wasn't exactly young when he passed but Im glad I saw him before he went. He put on a hell of a fucking show and was still killing it in 04 when I saw him.

I was way too young to see AiC but their sound just isn't the same. It's not just the vocals, Cantrell's edge is gone, I haven't heard anything but meh dropped D tuning stuff on their last two albums. They need to kick the new guy out and bring in Scott Weiland, maybe that'll bring in some turmoil to get the writing back on track with the added bonus of having a real rock voice lead the band again.

Axl Rose. It is a damn shame that Axl died and Guns 'N Roses had to break up after Use Your Illusions. I respect them for not trying to continue on with replacement members. Velvet Revolver is cool, but it's not the same. Remember just how dirty that band was? That was some NASTY rock and roll.
