Half a dozen that might be discussion-worthy: Natural Born Killers Raiders of the Lost Ark American Beauty Goodfellas Original Star Wars trilogy Mad Max 2 ("The Road Warrior")
Finding Nemo (best Pixar film imo, best characters, most to discuss) Natural Born Killers (rewards repeat viewings, lot to discuss in movie and theme) Princess Mononoke (one of my favorite movies. Incredible animation, a great story, and great voice acting. One of the movies I think more should watch.) Gattaca (lot to discuss here, timely, and inspirational. Groundhog Day (best fantasy movie, great theme, lots of discussion potential) Secondhand Lions (great movie with heart and humor. Not as deep as any of my other picks, but still a great film.) I think goodfellas, memento, and American beauty would be great picks too
Come and See - Set in modern day Belarus. Russian movie about partisans fighting on the eastern front, an area of WW2 that you aren't going to find well done in American films. Downfall - Yes, the parodies are hilarious. The movie itself is never funny and is a great reenactment of the last days of Hitler and his inner circle. Let the Right One In - Swedish vampire movie. One of my favorite horrors. Suspiria Blade Runner Patton I've been on a WW2 binge.
There are always movies I keep meaning to watch, but fall behind other watching priorites. Two that come to mind immediately are: Pulp Fiction Usual Suspects I'll try to think of others.
Alien franchise, including Prometheus. Apparently, there is talk of a new Alien project with the director of District 9 and Chappie at the helm.
Yep, and he's discounting Alien 3 & 4 in the process. http://www.slashfilm.com/blomkamps-alien/ He also did Elysium, which he wishes he could redo because the story was done wrong. I'm looking forward to it, actually. I'd like to throw in the two Things as my recommendation.
Im down for this discussion. I never knew why Alien 3 was so hated. It was the first Alien movie I saw as a kid. Wasn't too thrilled with Prometheus and have yet to watch District 9 without falling asleep.
CJ brought up the James Bond franchise in the WDT. I think you could have a great discussion about that franchise.
Maybe we could do a general discussion for comedies. I don't think that any one film or series really needs its own thread.
I like that idea. Stuff like the Bond franchise, maybe Alien, can support a thread on its own, but genres might make more sense for other non-franchises.
