The boyfriend is shooting a movie about an hour north of the city and just texted me to tell me that it is snowing on set. Snow. On May 24. This is some kind of bullshit.

My wife is from Germany, and her mother still lives there. She told my wife yesterday that it was snowing there, too. No thanks!

One week from today, my ass will be firmly planted in a chair on the beach in Hawaii, and I cannot fucking wait. Has anyone ever been to the Big Island? Any non-touristy things we should check out?

I'm covering the evening shift tonight. So instead of my three day weekend starting at noon today it will start around 8, 8:30 tonight. Instead of just taking the day off the girl I'm covering talked my boss into letting us switch shifts. This would be fine except she doesn't know how to do my job. She'll essentially be answering the phones and I'll still have to play catch up on all my stuff this evening while doing her job.

She's already called me once this morning. That shit pisses me off. I'm not at work, because she wouldn't take today off I'll still have to cover all her regular discretionary days in addition to today, and she fucking calls me at home at 8am on a day I don't have to be in for work until 4:30pm. The kid even let me sleep until quarter to 8 today, so I'm a little perturbed about being reminded that work exists this early.

There's a jon (little metal) boat race in Augusta, Arkansas this Saturday, so I made plans to do something else. It's ending with a big party on a sandbar on the river. This is my wheelhouse, but it's 1 1/2 hrs. away. Can't take that risk.

Backstory spoilered because it's pretty boring if you're not a redneck.

Several years ago, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission passed several regulations on public hunting land to make the areas safer and more fair for all involved. No guiding on public land. You have to be in and out at certain times, and most importantly, the AGFC imparted a 25 hp. motor limit on small boats. A good number of locals weren't about to be told what to do, so the scramble was on to find the highest displacement 25 hp. motors they could. Then, they started modifying the motors and a couple of hull manufacturers came out with hulls that were designed for speed, which lead to more motor modifications. Larger carbs, custom reed valves, lightened flywheels, auxiliary fuel pumps, head work, tuned exhaust, hydraulic jack plates etc. These rigs are faster than they ever before, with some breaking 50 mph. True to form, there's a lot of talk amongst this crowd of who has the fastest rig and some dudes are claiming speeds that are just ridiculous. So, there's a friendly race this weekend. Sounds like it will be a big turnout. My personal rig is fast(ish) but not nearly as fast as these dudes.

    So, I'm going fishing.

Mrs. Noland is leaving for Florida this afternoon with a bunch of the other teachers for a "work weekend". Next week is the final week of school, but every year they do this and call it a work weekend. I keep trying to get them to tell me how much work they can do when they are all armpit deep in margaritas, but apparently I just wouldn't understand.

At least guys don't make half assed excuses like that when they go on a fishing weekend.

Anyway, that leaves me a single father of three this weekend. So, Idiots, I expect debauched entertainment from you. Don't let me down.

So everything here is low to the ground, flat, brown and very dusty. I'm told there are mountains less than 50 miles away, but you can't really see them until the winter, because in the summer, the dust haze reaches about halfway up the sky. At least it was relatively cool yesterday, only about 110 degrees. Can't wait for the summer heat to start.

So far I've just been recovering from traveling and adjusting to the time difference. Haven't figured out much to do yet besides work and sleep, but it's only been a couple days.

Should start at the gym on Saturday (my one day off a week will be Friday), and then after a week of site training, I should start working on my Cisco certs during work.

Haven't gotten paid yet, and that first check won't have all the hazard pay stuff in it, but I'm looking forward to the first big check.

Drive around the back roads and play a rousing game of "Dope farm or not?"

Or if you're really adventurous, yell insults at random Samoans. They really love this game, especially the beat the fuck out of you round.
