So I had an insanely fun and momentarily stressful week at my buddy’s cottage. It was just supposed to be a few of us and we were all going to share cooking duties, which was cool, as we’re all foodies and love to cook. Last night was my final night to cook, and I was just going to do a nice stew. As I start cooking at noon, my buddy gets a call, and a few friends are in the area playing golf and wondered if they could drop by for the night and have some fun. “Hey Nett, can you feed 4 more?” “Sure… more water and potatoes it is” So I ramp up the volume a bit, and keep cooking. Low and behold 2 of the guys showing up are world class foodies and restauranteurs. They own Pied de Cochon (foot of the pig) in Montreal. Their sugar shack was featured on Anthony Bourdain. https://www.aupieddecochon.ca/us/restaurants/au-pied-de-cochon-restaurant/ WHISKEY. TANGO. FOXTROT. So I did my best with the stew, and it came out amazing. Like really, really good. I was so happy! It was totally eaten up, three bowls each. They even asked me for the recipe. (apparently balsamic, soy sauce, and allspice add pretty good flavour). It was so cool hanging out and getting hammered with them. They brought some amazing wine, needless to say. I even have a bizarre invite to bring my airstream to their sugar shack sometime, which I will for sure take them up on.
I remember those guys, the two most ruggedly decadent Canadians alive. That is a top-tier episode, that’s so amazing you got to meet them.
Hung with the big boats this weekend on the maiden voyage. It was great times not having to worry about heading back to the marina after being all the river all day. Leaving the docks was interesting though. Might've stuffed the bow into some bushes lol. Backing into the slip with the river current wasn't any prettier. Thankfully a few people were around and were able to grab a line and help guide me in. Need some time to get use to twin motors. Important thing is that I didn't hit any other boats or the docks.
It's fun running into young people who have never heard of Hootie and the Blowfish, and blowing their tiny little minds by putting on Only Wanna Be With You and saying "that's your favorite country artist."
I cannot stand for anything that could be conceived as Hootie and the Blowfish slander. They'll throw me out of the state.
We went to see Hootie about 25 years ago now. Sean Mullins opened for them and it was a great show. They played the longest show I’ve ever been to and we left after the second encore because surely they were done. They weren’t. We heard them as we walked up the street from the venue ( it was outdoors ). A guy I know was working security and later told me they were just having a good time and didn’t feel like stopping. They also took time to do a meet and greet with some folks from a local ARC house or something. It was an amazing concert, one of my top three.
