I really like prosecco. I've had a few sparkling rosés and they seem to be hit-or-miss, but as long as it's not too sweet, I'm a fan of bubbly alcohol.

I haven't gotten onto the seltzer train yet. I've tried maybe 3 of them at microbreweries and only one of them was something I'd drink again, but it's such a small sample size that I have no idea. I've never tried any of the mass market ones like White Claw - are they sweet?

This post is much more interesting if you imagine Nett saying it out loud, all alone in his house.

kinda like if you listen to Ronnie Milsap’s “Stranger in My House,” and assume the blind fucker means it literally.

I did that once by accident and Nett emailed me to make sure I was okay

My friends all laugh at me because I've pretty much exclusively switched to setlzers for my weekday drinking.

Light, easy, 100 calories, and I swear they are magically hangover-proof. Even when you throw back a dozen on a Wednesday.

I've recently switched to the Aldi's Brand Vista Bay. They don't taste quite as good as White Claw, but it's a significant cost savings. Unfortunately, the closest Aldi's is inconveniently located so I feel like a weirdo walking out with 96 cans at a time as they only come in 6 packs. Especially since I never have a quarter to get a cart.

Wait, you have to pay to use a cart?

I was having a pleasant conversation with one of the cats, thankyouverymuch.

Yeah, I like to think that we are, for the most part, pretend assholes.

You put a quarter in the cart and it disconnects. From a chain. You get the quarter back when you return it. It keeps them from having a cart boy.

This is pretty cool... a bunch of Nepalese climbers took the COVID break to do some spring cleaning on Everest... cleaned up over 2 tons of garbage.

I can think of worse ways to spend the time out.

Speak for yourself... sometimes it's worth the quarter.

Reminds me of the Louis CK / Drew Cary / others joke...

Driver gets pulled over for running a stop sign in the rain. Cop stands outside the driver's window, getting soaked by the pissing rain.
Cop: "you know why I pulled you over?"
Driver: "you know why I ran the sign?"

I'm waiting for summer weather to delve into the sparklings. They sound so good but I want to sit in the sunshine to enjoy them. @Popped Cherries those you linked look right up my alley, I'll have to look for them.

It's awesome that they did this, but I'm sad there was so much garbage left by hikers. Part of my love of hiking is experiencing nature, and I strongly believe in the leave only footprints idea. I guess some do it for the physical challenge only and dgaf about littering.

I think you'd be amazed at what a shit heap Everest actually is... I watched a BBC documentary a while ago on it and it's littered with frozen bodies that were never recovered, tons of garbage, and it's more like an over-crowded shitty park than a natural wonder of the world.

In theory they pay about $45k to climb it, and that's supposed to include all sorts of "cleanup" and "garbage collection" fees to cover normal garbage, but things like air tanks as well... but it sounds like they hardly ever get around to doing that cleanup part.

It really is interesting how some things that you have in your mind as some world-class, pristine, super idealistic thing actually turns out to be a huge shitfest in real life.

It's like they say, "never meet your heroes in real life".

I've heard that too, that there's lots of litter and frozen dead bodies. I had no idea how MUCH though. 2 tons is a lot, and I bet it isn't pristine after that collection.

When you stop and think that hikers are probably trying to pack the absolute lightest shit they can to help with the climb, that just makes that 2 tons even more crazy.

They didn't say... but other reports from previous recent years shows that it seems to be an ongoing thing:

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/everest-cleanup-effort-1.5163030

That one was 11 tonnes of garbage, 4 bodies, from 2019. They didn't say how long the bodies were up there, but there are some pics of bodies from decades ago still frozen up there.

Well good on them for keeping the effort going.

I read another article that mentioned human waste was one of the big things removed. I didn't even think of that. You go on a hike that long, you are going to drop some. Everything left up there is going to remain pretty much indefinitely.
