Threw a birthday party in 94* heat outside today. Giant canopy tent. Kiddie pools full of cold water. An absurd number of cold drinks. Kid had fun. No one got heat stroke, but coming back to my house without air conditioning was pretty brutal. The portable AC units have never worked so hard and it’s still 80* in my bedroom. At what point do we just go to a hotel?
If you do, see if they offer a reduced rate. Years ago we went to a hotel because the power was out and it was brutally hot like it is now. They didn't charge us the full amount for the two day stay.
Yesterday our neighbors, who we had dinner with at their palce last year, came up for dinner again today. Seeing how they're originally from Africa, we thought they may find the inside of our house too cold and prefer to eat outside. Thankfully they agreed dinner inside sounded better, and then we went outside after. The sun was going down so it wasn't too awful, but still quite humid. Once again it was a great time, lots of laughter, and conversation. Their son is a Grammy award winning producer and musician, currently visiting from out of country. We didn't talk much about music ( the family is proud of him of course but they don't make a big deal of his success ) but he and I chatted a little while I was finishing up with the grill and it was interesting to hear his experience and insight, particularly his genre. I apologized for taking so long to have them up; my wife and I rarely entertain... we just kinda keep to ourselves usually. But the father pointed out that if we did it all the time it wouldn't feel so special. That made me feel a little better. They were here two hours or so and I was a little disappointed they couldn't stay longer. This is the last week of school, thank. God, and then I have 2 1/2 weeks off until summer work begins.
We are still using window units. Yesterday I wrestled four of them into various windows on both floors of the house. Every year I wonder how much longer I can keep doing this, and every time afterwards I’m like, yeah I can still handle it.
When I lived in Alabama with window units, a particularly hot, muggy summer was starting to effect my mood. My husband told me he had a surprise and drove me down to the corner gas station/car wash and we hung out in the walk in beer cooler for awhile. Ahhh. Bliss.
One of the best investments I made was for a big floor unit that rolls around and just the inlet/outlet part goes in the window. Fantastic performance and so much easier to install.
I think we might literally die without AC. During some hot streaks when it's 110* during the day and only dips into the low 80s at night, the house might be unliveable.
Yep... it's hot here today. The heat is one thing but the 100% humidity just adds to the fun. Humidex of 46°C tonight... that's 115°F
The weather is gorgeous here. I have some windows open, leftover from airing out after baking silicon molds with essential oils stuck on. Had a delicious salad for lunch. Im kind of addicted. I have been eating variations of this a few times a week over the last month.
I love this time of year. Went cherry picking. They were ripe last week but now they are black red. So sweet.
We've spent two cherry seasons in the PNW and... fucking yum. All of the roadside stands in front of family farms, with a myriad of types and colors. Felt like I spent the entirety of June and July pre-treating cherry juice stains on my clothes. 100% worth it.
Actual has been like 97-99F. Heat index at about 110-112. Feels like I want to kill myself. Tomorrow its going to be 67F. Insane swing.
Today I was presented with a problem where I felt like I was a pawn in a game between two groups of people and had to make a decision. One of them told me to "...think about it, but don't take too long." And there I was, in a position feeling like no matter what I do, choosing between Choice A or Choice B, I'm pissing off this group or that. So I made up a third choice. perhaps pissing them ALL off.
Summer berries.....Mmmmm Walt's a free agent. He's nobody's pawn! What kind of groups did you piss off? Like social groups or people you work with?
I haven’t had any good berries yet this year. I do have next week off so might head out and find me some. Those look fantastic!
Fuck. That. We have a very easy job and are paid ridiculously well for what we do. Part time. With full time benefits. And still people piss and moan like we’re slave labor. Meanwhile I’m there like, “No one died. Or bled, puked, shit, pissed or spat on me. No blood, brains, guts, maggots, etc?” To paraphrase Ice Cube, that’s a pretty good day.
