I can totally see Nett writing a post that documents his fixing the problem of “so my car tipped over when I ordered the brontosaurus ribs at the drive-in.”
The wedding was a blast. It was held outdoors at a beautiful arboretum and the weather was great. It was also the Missanthropics first wedding. She offered to be the designated driver, but I told her to have fun, I would take it easy and drive everyone. She had fun alright. We spent part of yesterday hosing off the floor mats and shampooing the seats after she barfed on the way home.
Ugh. not a drinking story, but two years ago I got an awful virus. Started out feverish, then the vomiting hit me fast while I was laying down. I was so close to getting to the toilet…and missed. I remember moaning apologies to my wife because the night before we’d eaten lasagna.
I love when the Return to Office people go into some nonsensical rant about how it's better than WFH. Find a new job or cope with your commute losers.
My son has hand foot and mouth disease. I just want to fucking sleep tonight, but I know he’s gonna wake up screaming every hour.
Woof. My kid just had Roseola this week. Wtf it’s summer aren’t we supposed to be safe from plagues for a little while?
when I picked him up from daycare Monday, I said “he feels a little hot.” I got silence from the teachers. An hour later, my wife gets a text from the place saying HFMD was going around. Bitches.
I was on the other end of that, we left dinner with friends and he seemed fine. Noticed he felt warm when I was putting him down for bed. Did a few chores, went back to check on him and he felt like a furnace. Then had to send that “sorry guys, we might have exposed you to the plague” text.
Don't forget it's very contagious. When my oldest had it, my wife got it as well. I mentioned it at work and my boss very quickly suggested I work from home until we were sure I didn't get it as well.
My (big multi-national) company announced a global RTO a couple years ago. 3x/week, no exceptions. This was after they moved the entire office I report to over to a new, much smaller space which doesn't have room for everyone, approved 4 hires on my team for fully remote roles that don't live anywhere near an office, and approved relocations for me and a peer far outside of the office area. I just laughed and told my boss to let me know if I had to find a new job. I've stepped foot in the office twice since that announcement.
I've only spoken to one person, one time, over the phone, at my workplace since I started back with them. Everything is done by email, teams and sharepoint.
My office phone number is, per our Corporate Overlord Decree, listed in my email signature. It routes to a building that is currently 2,000+ miles away from me, at an extension which hasn't had a phone attached to it in 5 years, and allows voicemail messages to be left in a system to which I have no access. It's a well-oiled machine.
Do whatever you possible can to not catch it yourself. It is the most miserable illness you can possibly have as an adult. Worse than flu, covid, etc. My entire company basically rebelled to the point where they had to relent and just let people work remote full time in perpetuity. They tried to demand everyone go back to their local office, no one listened. Managers refused to enforce it and VPs didn't care. They then tried a softer approach by having catered lunches 3x a week. No one cared for that either. Eventually they closed all the offices except for 2 nationwide. I guess at a tech company, the leadership finally released a PR can get approved at home just as good as at the office.
I like that. I need to get me one of those. (Not that I ever talk to anyone on the phone for work at all anyway, but it would be a great place to send pushy sales guys).
My sister just got shingles at 53, with the immuno-compromizing aspects of MS, so she might argue that a bit... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeesh. I’m getting vaccinated for that on Monday before I start these scary arthritis meds. Both wifey and my stepmom-in-law got that in their later years. The mom-in-law also had lupus which is horrific.
