Happy Friday, idiots. Who is grilling out over this Memorial Day Weekend? Any of you boaters going out to enjoy the lake? We have a friend coming into town to stay for the weekend. I'll be making some jalapeno burgers with peppers from the garden. Pour one out for those who fought for our country. I did not know that this holiday was originally created to celebrate the Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. Y'all be safe and enjoy your weekend.
Someone put out an APB for those girls' butts. In other news, we WERE going to drive to the DFW area with Li'l Bandit to buy a car he had his eye on, but the deal fell through. The thing is, this is like the fifth or sixth time this has happened to him. It makes me wonder if those cars for sale on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, etc. are for real.
We’re getting some much needed rain today, so write this one off. Otherwise it’s gardening, getting the new family member settled in ( see the Pet Thread ) and parade on Monday morning.
We have our trailer set up but Great Lake water is still cold for swimming, and you can only launch a boat from a National/Provincial Park which is fucking bullshit. There are lots of boaters flat-out ignoring that rule, I can’t blame them.
You can find them sitting on my face. We're having some friends over on Sunday including one of my best friends really took quarantine seriously. We haven't hung out in almost 16 months so I'm really looking forward to it. Pulled pork, sliders, boiled peanuts, drinks, 100* heat. Going to be a blast.
We hit 100 today. Chances are we'll go below 100 for the high about mid September. God, I hate this place. Hopefully by mid September I'll have bought some 100+ year old house somewhere in a flyover state.
They just lowered the forecast on Monday to a balmy 106*. California is coming off one of the driest winters on record following a below average previous winter. I have a feeling that fires are going to be BAD.
So I just found an incredibly tasty drink... maybe 3 of them even. A bunch of Honey Sour Syrup, soda water, and bourbon. Try different amounts of the three. I find that going light on the soda water, heavy on the syrup, and all-in on the bourbon is the winning combination. This is the bourbon of choice tonight. It doesn't suck.
i finally smelled something other than animal farts for the first time since covid. bad part is that smell was someone’s breath. And now it’s stuck in my nose. maybe they ate out a dog?
Good stuff. I’ve had most bourbons out there, and this is pretty good. I don’t drink too many bourbon cocktails. It’s usually bourbon neat or in the rocks. Occasionally I’ll have an old fashioned but hardly anyone knows how to make it anymore. Or make it well, at least. Last night I was at a memorial service for a friend’s dad, and we had mostly southern comfort and cheap beer in his memory. Ive had a myriad of drinks under a myriad of circumstances. There are objectively better ways to make a drink but the situation often makes the experience.
Honestly, last month I went to the liquor store and loaded up on shit because COVID, and the main theme was "try something new", and this was one of the bottles that fit the bill. It's damn tasty, and almost gone. Not that one is required for the other.
Northeast is looking to get fucked over this whole weekend. 45 degrees and drizzling all day yesterday, looks like more of the same today.
Texas is still fucked from the rain, with more on the way next week. California, meanwhile, is already in a severe state of drought from one of the lightest snowfalls on record and is expecting record heat.
Thankfully the area my property is in is just considered dry currently. Low/Moderate risk of a big fire without a high risk event taking place. I'm keeping an eye on it though, if all my trees burned and I was left with a chunk of charred dirt I would not be very happy.
