    Happy international beer day!
    https://nationaldaycalendar.com/international-beer-day-first-friday-in-august/

Try a flight of beers while you're out tonight. If you're staying in, make some beer bread. What are you drinking tonight?

If I had to pick a favorite class of beers, I'd choose lagers. Oh Yuengling, how I miss thee.

Someone help me understand the random models with a beer company logo fridge magnets ALL OVER EBAY.

I guess we won't be celebrating chocolate chip cookie day. Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Why don't you guys tell us how you really feel about obese people?

Happy Friday! I'm 2 weeks post burn and I feel great. I hope you are all sufficiently buzzed and relaxing.

Went out to a local pub with live music tonight for the first time in forever... like years.

I will say that I killed a fair number of their adult blender drinks... the pina colada and dragon fruit gin drinks were the best, and I finished it up with a few Molson Canadians.

    It was a good night.

Because @bewildered closed the other thread as I was typing, I want to point out all the comments making assumptions being obese is a choice and those people are just lazy.

Then there's the 400lbs guy I grew up with that will easily outwork everyone making those comments into the ground. He routinely works from 4am till 9pm or later as a veterinarian, running his farm, engaged in his community, and taking care of his family. He watches his diet, eats relatively healthy, but he's still morbidly obese.

Please, tell me how he's a lazy piece of shit

He's one of the exceptions, just like there are people who smoke like chimneys into their 80's and die in their sleep.

I just told a story about how I have seen people get fatter in my community over the course of 30+ years, and kids are fatter than their parents were.

He might work his ass off, but he's flat out eating too many calories. Go watch the British show "Secret Eaters". Obese people routinely misrepresent what and how much they eat.

I think it’s pretty well established that Americans in particular are getting fatter. I know I sure as fuck am. For most of my life I could generously be described as lanky, I was briefly a decently well built weight in my 30s, then over the last 10 years I’ve gained a bunch of weight. A desk job, heavy drinking, and the eating that goes along with it, are the primary factors.

The Bandit is right on this one. Initiatives to reduce obesity were gaining ground, but were torpedoed by both the left (body positivity and racism bullshit) and the right (the nanny state can’t tell me what to eat, you socialists!). When Bloomberg was mayor of New York, he tried to enact a tax on soda and people lost their minds. Everyone knows it’s a problem, but just like all of the other problems, people would rather ignore it, especially if it takes an effort to address them.

Yep... I got fat, still am. I'm now doing something about it but it's fucking HARD.

Between sleep apnea and cardiac issues that caused me to be crazy sedentary for the last 2-3 years, it's been tough to try and come back from that.

Never mind I really like to eat and drink good food and wine.

Right now my biggest problem is that I'm getting next to no sleep at night.

My recent sleep study came back and I'm now waking up every 15-20 minutes, and it's next to impossible to wake up feeling at all rested.

I'm constantly fatigued throughout the day, and it'll be like that until I can get my second sleep study done (next weekend) where they figure out my CPAP prescription.

Once I get that, then I can get a CPAP, and hopefully start to get some sleep at night.

Y'all still talking about fatties when Bewildered clearly wants to talk about drinking?

Fine, I'll be the one to do it...

I gained the Quarantine 15 and never lost it. And in no way could it have anything to do with stopping going to the gym or the inclusion of hazy IPAs (sarcasm)

I did my sleep study a few weekends ago and haven't gotten my results back. Ive been a walking zombie since I got my first 9-5 after college. Through high school and college Id just sleep through classes (kind of pissed NONE of my teachers brought this up as a concern in all the parent teacher conferences my mom went to), college professors didn't care. My first real job, prior to my 9-5, was second shift so Id just sleep through the day. Wasn't until I was forced to be awake and alert through the day that my sleep issues magnified to dangerous levels. I backed off caffeine which helps with the insomnia but Im still wiped by 2 pm and can't fathom how people live like this AND have kids. I go through periods where it is dangerous to drive. It's no way to live.

I went the other way during the pandemic and started keto. I was strict for about a year and half but I couldn't tell you the last time I ate right long enough to be in ketosis. I suggest everyone try it for 6 months just to show you what dumping a shit load of carbs on your stomach does on cheat days. Lets you know how fucked processed carbs are. Lost 30 lbs. and have kept it off but Ive also stopped drinking. I went to a pulmonologist and got new asthma meds that let me do much more cardio. I havent been able to keep my joints healthy though and have been spotty at the gym for the past few years. I feel that down slope of life starting to get steeper.

I just pray this CPAP is a big a miracle as so many claim it is.

I’m in the middle of the exact same process, with almost the same severity as you. It took me a long time to address it. I just got used to being tired all of the time. I’m getting a machine in about 3 weeks.

I watched my dad go through it and it was a night and day difference. He was a totally different guy after he got his CPAP.

Yeah... looking back at it, I left it way too long.

My sleep apnea caused a cardiac aphib, which made me think I had COVID.

@malisbad can attest to how I was when it hit me in Tokyo... he was there helping me buy some over the counter shit that was all in Japanese. I thought I was going to die, and it was all the worse because Japan doesn't believe in good air conditioning. I couldn't walk 50 feet without almost passing out from not being able to breathe. I immediately chalked it up to a lung infection, but it was something much, much worse, that went undiagnosed for a few years due to COVID.

Then COVID created a year+ backlog for sleep studies, etc. I started looking for mine last November and had to drive 2 hours to Toronto to get a cancelled spot.

My results were so severe that they made an emergency spot open up for me ASAP because they don't think I can wait until January (which is their current wait time).

Fucking hell... don't get old or out of shape.

And I never would have thought this board would become some sort of sleep apnea / CPAP support group. lol

I think there's a lot of psycho/social factors at play that lend towards obesity. Kids who are abused grow up to have problems with their weight for example. There's like a giant venn diagram set of problems in this country and the overlapping part is OBESITY. At a certain point it's hard to have sympathy because the behaviors and resistance to change are life threatening, and many of these obese people seem to have no sense of self preservation or care about the people around them. But mostly, I feel sorry for them, because it's not healthy and nobody really wants to be obese, you know?

It must be the same here in the states because my brother had his whole process take 6 months(and he ended up just taking his prescription to a store instead of waiting the 3 months it was going to take the hospital to get the CPAP). Scheduling for the doctor I wanted was a nightmare and she claimed the backlog my brother experienced had been cleared. She ordered the test and I went to schedule a follow up and her first available time was october. Defeated I just folded and went with the earliest telemed with a PA. Paying American prices for Canadian care.

Yuengling is slowly making its way into the Midwest. I think it’s in Kansas now…I might have to take a trip and find out if that’s true.

I was just shy of 190 lbs when I finally got out of long Covid around roughly the end of last year. 3 years of barely being able to move. Being sedentary. I wasn’t fat, or even that heavy for my 6 ft frame, but it was trending toward unhealthy.

almost finished with my first week of marathon training and I’m at 175 and struggling to keep weight on. Drinking over a gallon of water a day just to stay hydrated.

Y’all, losing weight is fucking EXPENSIVE!!! None of the shit I wore during those 3 years remotely fits me. I was an XL, now a medium shirt. Went from a 36” waist being tight to now my 34s are so loose I’m just hanging off long enough so I don’t have to size down again. I’m expecting to level off somewhere around 165 at my marathon weight. Fortunately there’s a Nordstrom Rack close by. Still, that shit adds up. In a hurry.

y’all do consider costs if you are dropping weight. Or start saving now.
