Never thought I’d see the day where I cheer for the Cowboys, but when they’re playing KC…

We had a good day here. I ate more carbs in one meal than I normally do in a week so today I jump back on the wagon.

Thanksgiving travel went great for us. We hit the road Wednesday night. My kid got sick Thanksgiving morning, so we only had to see the family we stayed with and my mom. I drove home Friday morning, days earlier than we planned, without all the aggravation of driving all over the county seeing people I don't really give a fuck about seeing. It is a shame, that, the part about my kid getting sick, though.

I don't know how you northerners do it. I'm a week in and definitely in a funk with all this gray.

I live in Michigan. If I see the sun at all between now and mid March, I’ll consider it a gift from Mother Nature.

Excited to witness the shitshow that is post-game traffic during the first proper winter storm of the year while my parents feed us a giant feast. We always do a belated, non-traditional thanksgiving with them. I think they’re making lamb, shaved Brussels sprout salad with sumac dressing, and hasselback sweet potatoes with Berbere spice. My sister is showing up with some fancy cocktail fixings, and I’m just showing up with a loaf of bread and my chaotic children.

One thing I love about living in SW Ontario is the harsh weather (snow, etc) but then it gets clear skies, cold, but sunny.

Skiing. It's impossible to frown while falling down a mountain at highway speeds.

A lady who moved here from South Carolina once pointed out to me that there’s nothing to do up here in winter but eat and drink

    That’s how we do it.

That would explain the weight gain recently. Beers, snacks and other comfort food definately has made an impact on the waistline.

Doing work in the cold snow makes you feel like you’ve earned that huge bowl of stew and big mug of mulled wine.

Was out doing errands today (dump run, etc) and on impulse stopped off at the appliance store on the way back.

I’ve not been liking my stove and fridge recently for a bunch of reasons… from control panels shorting out, knobs locking up, shitty ice cube maker design that means it never works, etc.

Turns out I stumbled into Black Friday sales and got 30% off a new fridge and stove. And they were premium appliances.

Super excited for the new 36” 6 burner gas stove, as I’ve only got a 30” with shit btu’s.

New one has a wok burner that dumps out 35k btu.

    35k!

Can’t wait to set my house on fire!

So Mexico this week introduced me to a new level of terror— I got confronted by a barracuda while snorkelling, and those things are monsters. I think I exited the water at approximately the Speed Of Fear and didn’t leave a footprint in the first fifteen feet of shore.

That almost never happens!” said our guide between belly laughs.

Are you able to fit the 36” where the 30” is now? Which brand did you get? I upgraded to a 36 when we redid our kitchen. It’s my favorite appliance.

Also curious what you got. Not familiar with a residential range with a burner that high.

We're going induction in the new kitchen. Still a little apprehensive that we're going to like it lol

Yeah, the 36" barely fits, but it fits. The only thing that doesn't fit right now is the old range hood, which was custom built as part of the cabinets years ago... it no longer will centre over the stove.

    I'm 100% OK with that.

    It's a Monogram: https://monogram.ca/en_CA/product/Z...rofessional Range With 6 Burners - ZGP366NTSS

There's a thing where you can take the 2 centre burners and it combines into a single wok burner, so it feeds both burner feeds into it.

Doubt I'll use it hardly ever, but I'd much rather have more power than too little power.

It might be good for a big seafood or corn boil type thing too.

The only other option I saw for that was a Wolf range, and it actually had shit BTUs everywhere and was stupid expensive for no apparent reason.

Had a friendsgiving brunch yesterday and then a 2nd Thanksgiving at my brother's house. Apparently pushing 50 means I can't party all day like I use to. It's 7pm amd I'm just now starting to feel ok.

Drove to Montreal today. Took about 8 hours, in rain/sleet/snow, but at least the roads didn't have any snow on them... it was all 2 deg above zero on the way here so it was melting when it hit the ground. The salt trucks were out in FULL force though... I can hear my car rust from the hotel room.

For me, living in Vancouver, BC was the worst. It was just above freezing all winter, constant cloud cover and pissing rain. Longest stretch we went without seeing the sun was 147 days.

    It fucking sucked.

Summers were awesome, winters can fuck right off.

Some people said "just go to the mountains to get above it" but that's not where you lived so it didn't make it better.

147 days?! Fuck all that. I'd be in the worst mood. I think we're on day 10 or 11 and I'm losing my mind.
