Off to Tulum for a week, I’ve never wanted a vacation so badly, this has been hands-down the worst year of my life. I thought nothing could top 2020 but it was nothing but shitty situations this year.
Y'all oughta be thankful it happened early because Fridays are busy anyhow, then I had a close encounter with fucking bird flu yesterday so it wouldn't have happened at all otherwise.
I've come to the conclusion that if you call your son "Bubba", you're probably a single mom, white and poor to lower middle class. Anywho, short work week so we're super slow and just watching the clock until it's time to start this four day weekend
I have a cousin named Bubba. You might be onto something... I have pumpkin brulee in the oven. Good thing I grow my own eggs. I doubled the recipe and it took 8 egg yolks.
I ain't even left home yet, and I can already tell you I'm staying home next year, and beyond. Between blood family, step-family, in-laws, everybody wants pull us in many different directions at the same time or changing plans that we've already worked around with other plans for, and some of them get right damn bitchy about it. Nope, I'll call them next year, and that's that.
Honestly, that was really the biggest reason I agreed many years ago to host so many people at my house for Thanksgiving. Yeah, it's a ton of work for me personally doing all of the cooking, but I chose that because I enjoy it, but the most important thing is that I get to be in my own home and I don't have to worry about people being mad at me about not seeing them on the holiday. My home is open to anybody that wants to come, so if you don't make it, that's on you for not being able to see us on that day.
There’s been a couple of times I’ve questioned why I bother keeping chickens for eggs. With feed at $20/50# eggs would be so much cheaper in the long run. But we don’t live close to a store so if “we’re out” I just have to walk across the road to the coop. But also, I’m doing this weight loss plan so I’m eating like a half dozen egg whites a day. The chickens seem to make a lot more sense now.
My mom sent an emailed invite to their annual Thanksgiving celebration last month. To be fair, if it weren't the distance of OR to AL, a month's heads up is sufficient for most people. Going, for us, would entail major traveling, which we normally plan for a season ahead of time to get all our ducks in a row... Literally. We planted ourselves here and ended up having a set of two traveling in, plus my old lady friend here in town is coming. Make good food, they will come.
