I am not the most active poster, but I do find myself logging on most days to catch up with the whatever subject is being discussed. If I suddenly am not posting for a great amount of time, I am either dead or I retired and am busy riding the motorcycle around the country. Hopefully the latter.
Me too. I stay perpetually logged in because it’s easier than logging in and out. And I’ve already forgotten my password once.
For my site, I ran some numbers once and figured that, conservatively, I spent the equivalent of two years of my life, probably more, just running my site. And probably a couple thousand dollars over the years. That’s not counting the off shoots and other things I tried to get started along the way ( I think @bewildered joined one of them ). My point is, I know that feeling, but I’m glad you haven’t pulled the plug!
Hell I didn't even think this was an open registration forum. How any random person would find this place is beyond me at this point? I knew when it was decided we'd have a perpetual politics thread we'd end up running off a lot of people. It's what I attribute most of the big name people for leaving. It's poisonous and engaging at the same time. Outside of the WDT it's the only thread that get posted in daily. I used to be very active in arguing in it but gave that up a long time ago and just post jokes every now and again. It's whats probably kept me around is just focusing on conversation in regular threads. Ill probably be around until the wheels fall off. I don't have a dead man's switch but my family has access to my computer and this is one of the only places theyd probably actually write an update outside of facebook of my untimely demise. Hell I don't think I am friends with anyone on facebook from here. Looks like TravDaddy must have unfriended checking just now. He was the only one. Even that was an odd situation a thread where he asked how he could find another dude to double team his girlfriend (maybe a scootah thread) and I said I might be interested if she was cute enough since I knew he lived like 20 minutes from me. He friended me and sent me her picture. She was cute but I was too chicken shit to pull the devil's three way.
I assume if Nett decided to quit on this place he'd at least give a quick heads up to the other guy who has been running things here, and since I'm already hosting the infrastructure for another forum it'd be pretty trivial to just dump this one on my server(s) and keep it going.
Absolutely. And to be clear, Binary does a lot of the heavy lifting round here... I just set up the DNS registry and pay the bills for the server. I trust the dude implicitly. Initially it was a bit of work to get things up and running and sorted out, but really, for a while now, it's just been running like a fridge with minimal maintenance required, and no real upgrades applied for years. Almost decades.
Which is kinda lame, really, especially on a forum with as many topics as this one has. Just tap out of the one that offends your senses and move on to something else.
And to be honest, I don't think it's that bad. There isn't any FUCK YOU back and forth... never has been. It's almost like relatively casual conversation about politics just blew people's minds and crossed a line. Honestly, part of me thought "fuck you, if you can't handle such a tame attempt at communication around politics, then good riddance". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nobody can ever quit this place better than Natty did— he posted a link to see his sister naked, went to rehab, and THAT’S the show, folks. I don’t believe we have seen or heard from him since.
It sounds crazy, but back in the TMMB days, when they were bullies and it was not a good idea to go against The Tucker headspace, I made a very critical post calling them out on some bullshit. I fully expected to be banned, but instead I got one of my most memorable reps, and it was from Savage Henry: "steel on target". Still one of my favourite sayings when someone gets it right. (Most people I say that to have zero clue what it means, but still... I love that phrase).
He was smart, funny, and fair. And my biggest beef with the old board was the extremely shitty mods that we rampant. The “Tucker wannabes” that wanted to make an example out of anybody for not speaking correctly and it’s like dude— this is a forum and you’re just some dork in graphic design— why are you talking to me like you’re seven feet tall and standing over me???
I know what you mean. There was a guy on my site who I kinda knew in real life as well as online. He is super smart and I really valued his input. He also brought a lot to the site. Something pissed him off enough that he just disappeared. Never posted again, never responded when I messaged him to say “Hey what’s up,” nothing. It bothered me for the longest time but eventually I figured “fuck you then.” Which is something I’ve found easier to say as I’ve gotten older.
