Young adults die every year in this city because they wander out of the bars at 2 AM drunk without a coat and freeze to death in the cold or by falling into the icy harbor. People pretend its because theres a serial killer, but its just people not taking care of themselves. The cold will get you a lot quicker than the heat will.

The problem New England is having is that they have to deal with both.

    Then don't? lol
Buddy of mine wants to retire to Montana (Big Fork area). He just got back from a vacation there last week. Posted pics of him and his wife on a hike wearing jackets. In July. Fuck that. I want to forget what a jacket even is. This body was made for shorts, t-shirts and flip flops.

Blended coffee drinks are more of a splurge but we'd probably drink them a little more if we had a machine that could crush ice. I typically drink coffee out of the moka pot in the morning. It's kinda like stovetop espresso. I've also been making cold brew coffee lately and that stuff is grrrreat! Delicious jetfuel. Maybe I could let it steep longer to use less grounds, but my one complaint is that I use a fuckton of coffee to make a pitcher of it.
I'm a whole milk and white sugar kinda gal. Not sure I want to go down the adding fat to my coffee route. Hello +20lbs! Nice to meet ya. I might try it once with the coldbrew just to say I tried it. Seems kinda fad-ish.

Having moved from somewhere with hellacious summers and mild winters, I'll happily take some snow and ice for a few weeks and low humidity during the summer. The brief freeze is tolerable once you upgrade your wardrobe. AND, maybe because deep down I'm a hippie, but it really makes me appreciate time moving forward. Big variation in temperature with actual seasons are fun. It gives more reason to things that you do. Seasonal food to cook, holidays seem to have a little more reason to them, seasonal hunting and fishing, gardening with a purpose and deadline, hobbies that are restricted to certain parts of the year. It can be invigorating. Just don't let the darkness of winter get you down.
    Ok, /end hippy bullshit.

So, I have a couple leftover mason jars of sangria I made last year. Maybe October? It was nice and fizzy when I muddled the fruit in the jar. It was split up between two glasses and poured over half a glass of sprite. Delicious! All the muddled fruit went to the top so it was really smooth to drink with a straw. If you have a glut of fruit, definitely try out Nett's sangria recipe or technique or whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, it's really hard. Cut up fruit, cover it in a mixture of high-sugar, high-alcohol liquids and some wine, and let it sit in the fridge for days/weeks.

    Super complicated!

More than anything, though, it's the "let it sit" part that will give you all the results.

I think it's the let it sit part that people usually fuck up. There are a million recipes out there but now that I understand how a good sangria is developed, my eyebrows wiggle and I scoff when I see prep instructions that are versions of "combine and consume." Rarely do they even call for letting the sangria sit overnight. You're doing it wrong!

EXACTLY. There's one good restaurant in town that makes fantastic Sangria, and it's because they make it 3 days in advance and it's "natural" (no powders or flavour packs). They get it, and are willing to make the time/resource sacrifice to make it.

Most places are looking for the instant stuff that is technically sangria, but it sure doesn't taste like it.

Some people like that, which is fine... but it's not for me.

I have minimal experience with sangria, but what I have had was forgettable at best. More like fruit punch with booze or sweetened red wine. The real stuff is really good.

My real estate agent who helped us when we moved here has become my hookup for a lot of local things. For one, she lets me pick fruit at her listings that will otherwise go to waste. Last fall it was concord grapes (Jesus Christ I had no idea how much processing goes into grapes). I am promised a call when the asian plums, apricots, and peaches are ready at a listing she has now. You can bet your britches I'm making more sangria.

Well that'll happen when theres a communication barrier, because it sounds like neither of them were speaking English.

Had the "chokee" been wearing pants that fit, he may have been able to do something besides end up looking stupid.

Hey Nett, if you take away "family/ friends," "job," and "sentimentality," why do you live up there, then?

In other news, as many of you may know, thanks to all the memes, the newest season of "Stranger Things" is out.

Can y'all help settle an argument between Jungle Julia and I?

IF, for whatever reason, someone made a "Stranger Things" themed porno movie, which would be the better title:

    A) Stranger Dongs, or

    B) Stranger Dings

I need some closure on this.

American temperature and television shows are two of very few things Canadians prefer over their own country. The United States is that place we move to once we’re too old to shovel our own snow.

I would say nature/scenery/availability of outdoorsy things, culture, as well as lifestyle/political thread stuff might be another benefit of living in Canada depending on where you fall on certain things. If your a homebody who doesn’t like to hike, hunt and fish, I’d think it would be less appealing.

Ive always said I didn’t live in Texas, I’d live in Colorado. If I didn’t live there, I’d live in the Pacific Northwest somewhere. And if I didn’t live there, I’d try to move to Canada.

Could be an interesting thread. Where you live vs where you'd want to live and why? And what's stopping you?

I'm in Northern California and not particularly a fan. It get too damn hot (107* on Sunday) too cold (it'll dip into the 20's a few times a year), it's very brown 10 months out of the year, cost of living is outta control, taxes, the political landscape is loony, etc etc. On the plus side, I have some of the most beautiful parts of the country 2 hours in each direction. Lake Tahoe, Highway 1, giant sequoia's, Yosemite.

I stay because it's where my business is located and where the bulk of my friends and family are.

If I could live anywhere, I'd live on the intracoastal water way in FL. (fun fact: my grandparents old house on the IWC can be seen in this pic) I love warm weather, water and boat culture.

Yea, but the Jews are down there.

Fun fact, I’m from that area. The area is nice to visit but the people from that part of the state are garbage. I would never live in south Florida again.

Another fun fact: My grandfather said that he thought about running for Mayor on the platform of sending all the blacks back to Africa with a Jew under each arm. This was Florida in the early 80's so he might've won...
