    One, it did make the news.

    Two, the reason it's less of a story relative to Zimmerman is that, while terrible, the people behind it were caught relatively swiftly and will likely be going to prison for a very long time. If they were acquitted on a contentious Oklahoma bylaw, you would probably see more national news coverage.


    As many very fair criticisms as you can launch at those two, this isn't one of them.

    They're under no obligation to comment on every tragedy. They've appointed themselves (and been appointed by the media, which just leads them to appoint themselves more, etc), as advocates for race relations, not legal analysts on the subject of murder. If there's not a racial component, why would they feel compelled to comment? And it would seem that 1.5 black people killing a random white person does not have a racial component.

    Fuck that, they won't comment on anything that either doesn't fit their agenda or can't be easily manipulated into fitting their agenda. The problem many people have with Jackson and Shaprton is that they ONLY comment through their one sided argument on any given issue. While the cases might have different issues at their center that doesn't mean the issues in the school bus beating and random Aussie killing are any less important in view of race relations and problems faced in the black community.

    I don't think it's just a Western phenomenon. Unless you're exposed to the specific cultures or language for a decent time you aren't going to be able to know all the subtle differences. I've been trying to speak 30 minutes of German a day at a minimum, not just formalities and I can't understand the local dialect for shit. My neighbor tells me I speak like a politician.

    In other news, I have a ridiculously hot Romanian chick i met at a festival last weekend coming over to keep me company this weekend while I have to stay in the area in case work calls. God damn I needed this, my left forearm could put popeye to shame at this point.
