Happy Friday folks. American Thanksgiving is around the corner and today is a travel day for me. We're 25% there! Is this your last weekend of peace and quiet before your house is torn apart by unwanted guests, or are you keeping it simple and quiet? Travel boobies. Spoiler Planes, trains, and automobiles.. What's your favorite way to get there? Planes are faster but I can bring home so much crap with me by driving... Drinkity drankity, don't be crankity. Get a drink and get it on, it won't be long til you're old and long gone. Happy weekend y'all!
Cracked open a 20 oz can of Long Trail Ale tonight, and damn it was good. If I didn't like beer so much, I'd lose and maintain weight easier. But then I'd wouldn't have beer. *shudder*
Posted this right before the last WDT thread got closed. PSA: get fucking CPR certified Spoiler: I had to use it That god for CPR training. A neighbor called, said his wife (who is elderly and like 300 lbs) fell. Normally no big deal, I drive over there and help get her back up. Except I found her face down and with no pulse. Called 911, rolled her over, started chest compressions and cleared her airway until she I felt a faint pulse about a min into it and she started breathing on her own. Kept airway clear after that and on her left side. Took EMS 8 minutes by my phone's calculations to get there. They got her on oxygen and to a hospital. If she had been without a pulse for those 8 minutes, there would be no hope of recovery. As it stands, it's still not looking good, but my training was able to take someone from dead to at least a chance of seeing her family on thanksgiving. Please, everyone go get CPR/1st Aid certified. You may never need it. Or you may get a random call on a thursday night and find someone without a pulse and be able to hopefully give them another chance.
Just came back from a nice BD dinner with my mom and sister... now planning on doing sweet fuck all for the rest of the night, and loving every minute of it. Picked up The Outer Worlds, and am working my way through that... it's fun so far. Has a nice Firefly vibe to it.
The neighbor is now responsive in the hospital. Broken arm, possibly some broken ribs from me doing chest compressions. They’re running tests. Not sure about brain damage since she was without a pulse when I got there. fire and a cigar has never felt so good
Well I’ll say one thing about you...you give as good as you get. In all seriousness, good on you for being prepared and thinking quick.
yeah finding someone clinically dead is not an experience I wish on anyone. I’ve seen and helped in a lot of medical situations before, but this was the most extreme plus I’ve know these people my entire life. The husband taught me to fish when I was younger. Of course when we realized she wasn’t breathing she froze and wasn’t able to do anything so I was calling 911 on speaker while doing chest compressions and having to clear her airway and hold her tongue out. Not a great situation. It was an incredible relief when her pulse came back, a joy rivaled only by seeing my children being born. EMS said I did everything correctly, so at least I did what I could. Very relieved I got there when I did and that my training kicked in properly, but she’s elderly and obese with a ton of health issues already so if anything I just prolonged her life for a bit. She’s gonna have some (more) major medical concerns going forward. But at least her kids and grandkids will be able to visit her this thanksgiving.
Such a fucking adrenaline dump. My wife joked that if tonight didn’t make me go back to drinking then nothing will. Thank god im leaving on vacation soon.
Great job RoTN! My ex (A Firefighter/Paramedic) once revived a baby that had drown. It was probably her proudest moment. I imagine it's a God like feeling bringing someone back. Then again...remember when I died a few years back? Now I'm thankful someone knew CPR. But at the moment I came back I was annoyed as hell...I was in a nice peaceful place and then suddenly I wasn't. And I had some guy who looked like a fucking viking doing chest compressions on me. It could've been worse I suppose. At least Jesus wasn't yelling at me. That probably would've been bad.
Great job for your first time. It doesn't always work as well as they show on tv and people expect, so a "save" your first time is an especially good experience. What happens after she goes to a higher level of care is out of your hands. If she died 4 hours later or 4 days, it's a save. Take it from an old paramedic.
New engine looks great, too bad Index costs $1000. That’s a pretty high barrier to entry. Sure there’s other VR sets, but I’d bet good money its best on Index.
Thanks for your service. It was my first time doing chest compressions, but technically I think my first “save” was when my eldest was an infant and my wife rushed him to me, he was was choking but wasn’t making noise anymore, starting to turn colors in the face. Held him in one hand and did the baby Heimlich which fortunately worked. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve had to do emergency 1st aid coming up on wrecks and the like, recovering people from seizures. Best thing I learned through the years is to walk not run, as that gets your heart rate up and made decisions are made when your HR is spiking. Better to be a few seconds late than fail to revive them because your adrenaline made you forget something. Nothing compares to the stress of chest compressions though, which I last I heard the survival rate is around 45% anyway. Not ideal to do on anyone, but especially someone you know and love. You’re basically playing god. Had to look at it like I was working on a dead person with nothing to lose, which they basically are since she either had a faint or no heartbeat (doubt I restarted the heart since that usually requires electrical shock). Looks like she’ll be fine though. Got her to a higher level of care quickly, thanks to some expert paramedics and firefighters who performed their job with a professionalism I envy and can barely comprehend.
Rage Against The Machine have reunited, at least temporarily for a small tour in the southwest. And Coachella again. I hope this gets bigger. The are one of THE bands you owe yourself to see live, rarely (if ever) will you be around a more fired-up audience. It’s like walking into a furnace.
