Heyo, today is a palindrome! Today is also Guy Fieri's birthday. I know him as the Diner's Drive Ins and Dives guy. Have any of your local favorites been featured on the show? I find it... hilarious? Disturbing? That Fieri's look is copied for some pornos. Spoiler Happy Friday to all you idiots. I hope you're all keeping warm and staying out of trouble.
I'm a huge Sammy Hagar fan. Been to his place in Cabo a few times, seen many shows, really enjoy his Rock and Roll Road Trip show. But the one part that surprised me was his close friendship with Fieri. I always thought Fieri was a dick, but Sammy helped showcase some of the guy's nicer qualities, and his more "real" side. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. I was pleasantly surprised.
Doumar's cones and barbecue in Norfolk was on Triple D. The original proprietor was credited with inventing the waffle ice cream cone. Back in the early 2010's ol' man Doumar still came in to make fresh cones by hand. That's the only place I know I have eaten that was on the show.
His TV persona is kind of annoying, but I've only ever heard people speak positively of him as a person. He helped raise a bunch of money for out of work restaurant workers last year.
If you haven't already, go watch the episode of Hot Ones he was on. Especially the last 5 minutes or so. Like others have said, his on-air persona comes across very douchey, but you can tell he really is passionate about not just his cooking but other cooks and helping them out any way that he can. Edit: I just went and got the link for it.
It's not Triple D but I ate at some place in Portland that Adam Richmond did on Man vs Food. The Great Balls of Fire at Salvador Molly's. I had a piece of of one and it completely ruined my meal. Adam motored down five with the sauce that was even hotter. https://salvadormollys.com/great-balls-of-fire/
I've been to several places that have been on food shows and I've been almost universally disappointed. To be fair, the added business from the shows couldn't have helped, but nine times out of ten the food wasn't even good.
Mick & Angelo’s in Niagara Falls is one of my favourite restaurants. It was on Man vs. Food, we try to go there every time we go to Niagara and the prices are incredibly low. They make the best calzone I’ve ever had.
There are exceptions, of course. There's one I loved even before the show, which is Louie Mueller's. Another, Juan in a Million had great food, but the show made the restaurant look like it was in much better shape than it was.
I went to Hisa Franko in Slovenia (featured on chef’s table) and it was amaaaazing. Hands down the best meal I’ve ever had, and the attached inn (and the breakfast they feed you) were honestly pretty reasonable, even if dinner was pricey. That’s the only TV-featured restaurant I’ve been to, at least that I know of. We had reservations at Celler de Can Roca last spring but had to cancel the trip because rona. I’m still not over it. I am super food motivated and put fair amount of time and research into finding good food when we travel, whether we’re going to see family in Ohio or going on a big international trip. Because truly why would we eat mediocre food when we could eat really good food?
BBQ place in Baltimore that's literally in the parking lot of a strip club. Classy, sassy and fucking scrumptious.
A diner up the road from me was featured on the show in 2007 and they’ve been milking it ever since. The food there is really good though, and they give you a shit ton of it. They were also featured on Spike TVs Frankenfood in 2014.
Word of advice, if you ever hit up Amazon for a case of energy drinks that are hard to find and potato chips that aren't sold in your area, do them as separate orders. Of all the times for my entire order to actually come in a single box...
I got cold and in a pissy mood at home, schools didn't open back up. Said fuck it and went to Florida to an OHV campground. My kid went swimming, in January. We are having a good time.
