If it’s good— and it makes money— that’s all you need to start a trend. Pulp Fiction made everyone want to make a hip, violent low-budget indie flick with lots of snappy dialogue. Iron Man and The Dark Knight were released within weeks of each other and then became superheroes “with a sense of humour” or “thought-provoking reflections” of modern society. (Rolls eyes) We forgot to just make movies that were made to make us straight-up laugh. It costs enough money, let us have FUN again when we go to the theatre and who cares about it having any message. Like, for example, Spaceballs.
Comedy is my favorite genre. Most of my favorite films are comedies that came out during the '90s and the aughts (e.g. Happy Gilmore, Dirty Work, Road Trip, the American Pie films). But isn't the reason that these types of movies aren't really being made anymore because they're not big money makers for the studios? I do really miss these kinds of films. I think that the last comedies that I really liked were Clerks II and Borat, but those came out all the way back in 2006. Horrible Bosses, Hall Pass, 21 & Over, and The Dictator were okay, but nothing special. But I am looking forward to Happy Gilmore 2!
