The only thing that I agree with in the above is the inference that Victoria is a huge cock.

Also we are below you so wouldn't "Victoria's Taint" be more accurate. Not to mention a cool band name.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up... Although we have recently added the 'avoid getting glassed for no reason by musclebound morons with faux-hawks' game to our nightlife repertoire as well. Its non-stop excitement up in this bitch.

I once went to Perth for a long weekend for a wedding. Everything was fucking closed. Shops, restaurants, the entire main area of town, shut down.

You might have some nice beaches, but there is shit all to do there...

You will however be safe from those evil dope smokers, now that simple possession of less than an oz is punishable by 2 years in jail. So we've got that going for us, I guess.

Much as I rag on Perth for being the world's largest retirement community, the recent(ish) changes to the liquor licensing laws have improved things a fair bit. Now that small bars are viable, some genuinely nice places have sprung up. There might not be anybody in them, but there are actually places I enjoy going to now.

Oh, and for all you hordes of foreigners contemplating the trek? A pint of beer is $10+ in most city / coastal bars now. Mixed drinks with well liquor are about $8. Oh, and we aren't allowed to have any promotions which 'encourage the irresponsible consumption of alcohol', so forget about 2 for 1 specials or anything like that. Rock on Perth.

There is really not much else to do besides drink nice beer and sleep with beautiful women. It's not as bad as it sounds.

Welcome to the wonderful world of regulated trading hours. This bullshit, along with our continuing resistance to Daylight Savings (the main reason being it will upset the farmers cows and curtains will fade quicker... I shit you not those are legitimate concerns some people in this state have towards Daylight Savings) and our over the top drug laws are why the rest of the country routinely mock us as being a bunch of ass-backwards hillbillies.

Good beaches, lots of sunshine and lots of hot women do make up for a lot of Perth's shortcomings though.

Also no real hipster movement to speak of (that's Melbourne's niche). So yay for that.

Fuck me. We don't pay that in some Sydney bars. Of course you have the toss pot "trendy" bars but only wankers with tight jeans and cardigans go there.

Your women better be hot, because I'm still not sold!

Having been there last year I can say yes their women are quite tidy indeed.

I can't see anyone wanting to come up my way for a piss up because TYownsville is a hole and full of the local indigenous also. Alcohol is cheaper than Perth but it's still better to buy in bulk and drink at home. Don't have to put up with the young grunts who go out andf can't handle their drink.

I believe Townsville is on my list of places to never visit. Also included on that list is BrOken Hill, all of Tasmania and Adelaide.

Hey now, you best slow your roll there. I've never been to Tassie, but damn if it doesn't look pretty:
Also, even the things that kill you there are cute:

Finally, Perth women (all 25 odd of them) are hot, and relatively friendly compared to Melbourne / Sydney. Their fashion sense tends to be fairly limited, but it's nothing an hour or so's coaching from Nom couldn't fix.

Well if you ever end up here we generally welcome unappealing awkward women with open arms. So it often seems anyway.

Sure Tasmania is nice to look at. But what's a pretty face worth when it's full of old people, Devonshire tea and deranged gunmen?

I'm sure that from inside a well insulated vehicle, Tasmania is much nicer than Pilbara, Coober Pedy, Charters Towers, or if you're a lost white girl, Redfern. I'm just saying, if you're not into fucking your cousins, or don't have cousins in the area, there's not a lot to do. I'm not saying I approve of wanton gun violence, but if I was stuck in Tasmania for more than a week, I'd start considering a killing spree as a way out. Admittedly, I start considering a killing spree when someone suggests that I should go to Charters Towers,

You know, he let you escape on purpose. Just so you might come back and think 'well, I got out once, I can get out again..." then BAM. Yeah.

Anyway, hope to make it to Australia one day, the wife was there for 3 months during law school and said it was phenomenal, one of her favorite places.

Unless it was for the Goldfield Ashes(Big drunken cricket tournament) why would anyone suggest you go to Charters. Most of the people that grow up there get out as soon as they can.

    OK I’ll bite.

Hobart, where I live has several of the best restaurants in the country not to mention more top class pubs and cafe’s than you can poke a stick at. Fresh food is everywhere, the air and water are crystal clear and you can buy a really nice house on a big block within walking distance of the CBD with change out of $500,000 (same thing in Sydney would cost $2.5m+), and <$300,000 if you don’t mind a 10 minute drive. The nightclub scene is virtually nonexistent, but I fucking hate nightclubs so this doesn’t bother me.

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-sydney/list-2?preferredState=nsw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-syd ... dState=nsw</a>

To top all this off I can jump on a plane and be in Sydney or Melbourne in a couple of hours for a couple of hundred bucks whenever I need a big city hit. This small cost is well and truly offset by the cheaper housing.

And a far as the bogan factor goes, it’s really no worse that the outer suburbs of Melbourne. If you go the “good” bars and restaurants (same as Melbourne) you never notice.

A big part of the Tassie stigma comes with tight arse Aussie tourists, Tassie is small so 20 minutes drive can see you go from a “good” area to a ”shite” area. Folks from Perth, Sydney etc see 20 minutes drive as nothing so get excited to save 50%+ on their room tarrif. They then get all butthurt and surprised when they end up in a shithole with no services nearby (also our public transport system is nonexistent)

edit: Just looked at Sydney prices. jeeezuz wept..

I'm not knocking Tasmania essentially...I just have absolutely no desire to ever visit. There are plenty of places in the world that don't interest me in the slightest.

I'm sure there are plenty of beautiful things to look at and nice restaurants. And house prices are amazing. I would rather punch myself in the face rather then buy in Sydney. An hour out of the CBD, and it's still going to cost me at between $350k - $450k for a decent house in an ok suburb.

For me, Tasmania looks pretty, I'm positive there are lovely people living there with great things to do, but it does not tickle my fancy one iota!
