This is a thread to discuss the shows that don't warrant a thread of their own. (At least not yet). Seeing as the networks seem to just throw shit up against the wall to see what sticks, I figured this was an appropriate name. So, if you have a show you want to discuss, and it's neither good or popular enough to warrant its own thread, post about it here. If it's warranted, we'll spin off a dedicated thread later. FOCUS: Talk about shows that don't have or deserve their own thread.
Two shows that I recently watched were the main impetus for this thread: CHAOS: A new show, starring Red Foreman and a few other guys I'll never remember the names of, that is set in the CIA. It's a comedy kind of thing with a bit of semi-serious stuff (a LITTLE bit of semi-serious stuff). It's an interesting premise, and so far it hasn't outright sucked. It could even be considered mildly entertaining, with optimistic flashes of potential. I've watched 2 episodes so far, and it's on my list of things to download and watch when nothing else is on. Breaking In: This is a new Fox show with Christian Slater as the boss of a "professional break in" company that purportedly tests clients' security systems. Really, it seems like kind of a FOX spin of Leverage, one of my favourite BBC shows. There are a couple of characters that could be funny, like the black guy who seems to be going for the Troy Barnes thing (from Community). Again, over the top, and the first episode was "meh", but has a bit of promise. Not quality TV by any stretch, but not bad as a pilot.
I just watched the first episode of Chaos and I have to say I like it so far. The casting is pretty good and the story line was good as well. I'm about to watch the second episode and I hope it keeps it up. Carmen Ejogo is hot, that almost makes the show worth watching.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent (my fav of the franchise) returned last night with Dinofrio and Erbe for a final 8 episodes on USA. I wish NBC kept this one and canned the LA spin-off. Even Alfred Molina can't salvage it.
So, there were new episodes tonight. I figure they are just airing the rest of the 13 episode season, but hopefully it gets better ratings as I really like this show.
It's my opinion that the black kid single handedly destroyed the show. Slater was amazing, Bret Harrison always plays the same lovable loser everyman, the chick was smoking hot, and Michael Rosenbaum plays a wonderful idiot. Even the costume specialist guy had some great visual jokes. But the black kid as the "gadget guy" was not just "over-the-top", he was retarded. Every time he was on screen, he had the same energy and vibe as the sound effects guy from Police Academy, and that doesn't fit in with modern comedy. For fuck sake, they had him believing that he had given the copier sentience. If they had just toned him down into a more realistic best friend/main character foil, it would have had a drastic impact on the whole feel of the show.
I won't go so far as to say he's destroyed it, but I agree. In the first episode, I thought it was kind of funny, but it's come to be way too over the top since then. I'll still watch the show, if I have nothing better to do, but a little piece of me dies when he's doing his schtick.
I mean destroyed as in, as far as I know, it's been canceled after it's current run is up. Ausiello confirms
Thanks for ruining my morning. Damn it, why do I even bother watching new shows? Human Target got canceled too. How the hell do these two get canceled and Bob's Burgers does not? I have a loathing hatred of Fox at the moment.
Childrens Hospital Anyone else seen this? Its a comedy satire of hospital dramas on Adult Swim. It might be the most politically incorrect show Ive ever seen on regular cable besides Always Sunny. http://video.adultswim.com/childrens-ho ... octor.html
Lockup (MSNBC), Hard Time (NatGeo) and Jail (Spike) are flippin' addictive. The scary, the stupid and the hilarious all locked up together.
I watched the entirety of The Wire over the last three weeks. Fantastic show, amazing characters, often distressingly realistic. But I can't agree with the people that say it's the best show of all time. It may be in my top ten, but we all know what my number one is, even though Lindelof himself said The Wire is better. It gave me a whole new appreciation for how hot Amy Ryan (Beadie Russel) and the Gravedigger from Bones (Ronnie Pearson) are. That being said, I think I've jerked it to more black lesbians per capita than in my own previous history in the last few weeks.
I also watched the entire series over the past month or so. It's definitely the best dramatic series I've watched. I'd put Arrested Development and a couple other comedies over it, but mainly because I think comedy- if done right- is more difficult to produce. On a related note, despite the fact that I love all things Western, I'm have a really hard time getting in to Deadwood. Is it worth sticking with it through the first season because seasons 2 and 3 are incredible, or should I move on? I like the music though.
Does anyone watch the show Burn Notice? I've heard about it, and apparently is does really well, but I've never met anyone who's seen it.
Burn Notice, Psych, Covert Affairs, White Collar, the new Callie Thorne show Necessary Roughness; USA has become probably my most second most watched cable network, after FX. I think we used to have Burn Notice threads around somewhere...
Burn Notice is one of my favourites, and there is a thread around here about it somewhere. It's kind of over-the-top, campy, but fun.
Burn notice is really good, recommend it highly. Although I have stopped watching it after Season 5 as I was watching too many other shows.
