A man born with congenital amputation wants to compete in MMA.

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58793" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58793</a>

    Congenital amputation is this:

    <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congenital_amputation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congenital_amputation</a>

Instead, he emerged a philosophical question rather than a fighter: Where does a person's right to set his own level of risk end and the state's obligation to protect him begin?

FOCUS: Put yourself in the shoes of the commission. Would you let him fight, and why?

ALT. FOCUS: Discuss the quote above.

I guess it depends on his weight class. If he's fighting 8th graders and 4'6 asians, game on.

They banned midget tossing a few years ago but some of the little people around the Tampa Bay area were a little pissed off about that. Apparently, letting a bunch of drunken fuckwads throw you around like a ragdoll is pretty lucrative (and probably hella fun).

I can't fathom how this guy would be able to defend himself, let alone inflict damage on someone with no legs and arms that extend only to elbow length. Also what position did he play in football in? Give me a break.

I guess he is aiming to exploit a loophole so he doesn't get punched in the face. Compared to a guy with legs, it's like entering the fight with the strategy of laying down when the bell rings. Okay whatever. But that isn't MMA anymore, that's just grappling.

And can you imagine being the guy that has to fight this guy? Would you feel right with wrecking his shit? I couldn't unless he was biting my ankle. But hopefully he won't because I'm giving him the courtesy of not punching him in the face.

Here is a youtube vid minus the "can't punch the guy in the face" part -

Side note - He does have a few advantages, like forcing his opponents to stoop their backs and having a lot more upper body mass to roll around. But realistically the fight is still a joke. I guess it depends on how shitty those amateurs are that he is fighting.

I'm still firmly against it though, unless it was in a bar with a blow up ring where girls in bikinis come out to box with over-sized gloves afterward.

Alright, that video was not a fight. That was a guy crawling around really fast while another guy avoided him and punched him in the face. No way that guy would last in a legit match against anyone who was more than 120 pounds. I don't think I saw Kyle harm the guy in any manner the entire time, it was more like bullfighting than it was MMA.

I have seen a documentary on a high school wrestler with only arms, no legs, who did rather well against kids his age. As it stands, that's the only style that Kyle would be able to use (grappling/wrestling) and even then he can't really grab on to anything. Gotta side with the commission on this, not necessarily because he doesn't have arms and legs, but because he can't fight. If he could contend with his disadvantage then sure, but it's pretty apparent that he can't.

I believe this is him wrestling in high school

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xhVaoi7_TI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xhVaoi7_TI</a>

In a grappling context, his physique gives him several advantages. Having less limb weight distributes more muscle mass to his compact body. He is able to use his calloused arm stubs as a crushing vice grip. Short limbs are hard to lock submissions on. I wouldn't want to try a guillitone on him either, imagine getting wailed on by those thick flesh clubs.

This is ridiculous. You can't kick him when he's on the ground, and he's got no limbs to submit him with. How are you supposed to hit the guy? It's like fighting a muscular pig or one of those things from Half-Life. Punching only goes so far.

As someone who recently fought MMA professionally, I can't stress how retarded this kind of thing is. The above fight essentially looked like what I'd do when I play with my dog, minus punching it in the face. People without limbs essentially have no way to win a fight. They can't strike or submit their opponent. Infact, the only damage he can inflict seems to be illegal (biting). His only chance of competing is in Alabama, where there's no athletic commission.

What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs who wants to compete in MMA? Whatever you like, there’s nothing he can do about it anyway.

This is stupid. Unless he has an electric wheelchair with scythes on the wheels and some Evil Dead style prosthesis the guy is just a motivated potato in an asskicking competition.

Oh my God what is this shit. That fight was pitiful, there's no need for metaphors or whatever about bullfighting. It was a guy with no arms or legs crawling around after a guy that was afraid to punch him. And what was he planning on doing when he laid on his back, some BJJ? Jesus fucking christ. Listen stupid fucking Right's Groups, telling this guy he can't fight is NOT discrimination. It's like all the hundreds of people that wouldn't hire him for jobs his whole life. "What's that son, you want to be a roofer? Can you hold a nail gun? Can you carry a bundle? Can you pick up rubbish? Can you even get up a ladder?" If someone cannot physically do something, even if you provide accomodations (ie. lighter fire suit for women), then it is not discrimination to tell them they can't do it.

If I was that guy fighting him, I would straight up kick the shit out of him. Maybe that would show all these idiots that fought for him to get his chance that that are...idiots. Oh my, your no-limbed wonder can't FIGHT people, surprise surprise.

I've got an idea. Maybe if they put "KYYYLLELLELLELELL" and his opponent under a bed, and then let them duke it out there, this could work. Of course, that wouldn't be condusive to fans and all.

I can't imagine what it would be like to go through life like that, and I really feel for the guy....but come on.

No way in hell I let him fight. Unless it was against another fighter with the same physical limitation as him. Bravo to him for having the balls to live his life even though he's at a tremendous disadvantage but this is one of those cases where the rules are there for a reason.

Athletic commission are in place to ensure that neither combatant is at a tremendous disadvantage. They wouldn't approve of me versus Shane Carwin just like they wouldn't approve of Kyle Maynard versus anyone with arms and legs.

This is as depressing as it is funny.

It's always cool to hear about people with disabilities refusing to just lay down and pout about what a shitty hand they've been dealt; the whole "Everybody said I couldn't do it, but I did" story is inspiring, for sure. But in this case he really can't do it. It's almost like he won't accept that he has a disability.

Even if his opponent did nothing at all, could this guy win? I guess if he punched you with his stump for 3 rounds it might put him ahead on the score cards... but still, that's like being bitten by a dog with no teeth. Come on. He could maybe get a really shitty arm bar, but anybody who gets submitted by a quadruple amputee shouldn't be fighting either.

I cant help but feel bad for this guy. From the video you can tell he has worked hard to get to where he is and for him to not be able to fight just plain sucks. Theres no better way to describe it. He got delt a shitty hand in life and is trying to do what he loves, but he physicially cant. I can understand the commission not allowing him to fight though, he'd get killed. Its too bad there wasnt a physicially challenged fight league he could join to make him happy.

I feel more or less the same way. He's earned my respect for being determined not to let the fact that he hardly has fuckin' arms or legs get in the way of doing what he wants. On the other hand, being so determined doesn't mean you can get away with not being realistic.

That being said, I'd let him fight, if only for the fact that it's his life and not anyone else's. However, it'd be tough to find an opponent willing to fight him full tilt and not go easy on him just because he's looking like Bob Oblong.

If you can't find someone willing to go all the way, it kind of defeats the purpose of what he's trying to prove/accomplish.

Pardon me, but isn't there such a thing as the Paralympics for athletes with disabilities to display their skills and feed their thirst for competition? Seems to me this little organization is quite legit and has grown beyond a weekend event held at a high school in Brandon, Manitoba.

Perhaps Mr. Maynard could find a sport within that realm that would satisfy him and allow him to compete on a level playing field, all without putting him on display as a freakshow.

I hear they even give out medals and shit.
