This HBO miniseries is breathtaking. A great police procedural, the fact that it's a mini-series has me stoked because they won't draw everything out. The lead actor's ethnicity is Muhajir, not something you see every day. I'm about to watch the second episode tonight. Curious what you all think about this one.
So far I love it. It's a very gloomy and realistic take on a very confusing situation. They aren't aren't trying to make you hate any character or root for one either. I'm still confused on if he did it or not. And the so far, the step dad is throwing me off.
Caught the first episode last night. Pretty unnerving how something like that could happen to anyone.
Spoiler I'm still not convinced he did it. I don't feel he had enough blood on him when he woke up. That scene was an absolute massacre.
I think the point is he didn't do it. Every bit of evidence points to him, he is an everyman caught in a situation made by his own bad decisions. But ultimately, you'll find someone else did it.
Good casting for the step father. I think it would be a good twist if he did do it. Otherwise - I think the limo driver at the petrol station is somehow involved
Dude has been in a ton of stuff lately, but he'll always be Mickey Doyle to me. Its only two episodes in, but I like how none of the characters are a clear-cut antagonist. I thought they were going there with the detective for a bit, but each character is just acting in their own self interest.
I am loving this show, last time a show grabbed me like this was the first season of True Detective, so hoping it continues.
I couldn't quite put my finger on where I'd seen him but he was so familiar and without the old timey New Jersey accent.
Anybody still watching? I love this show, so well done. Regarding the comment about it being difficult to tell who the protaganist/antaganists are, I think that is what is drawing me in so much. Very much like "real" life, each character has a bit of both. Right now I am leaning towards him not having done it, but who knows, by next week I may change my mind.
I don't think he did it either. There's got to be something we are missing. Either with the step dad or some other character in passing. There was just not enough blood on him to create the scene that was up in the bedroom. I feel like Stone is going to crack this case somehow. But I do love this show. It's so dark and fills me with dread when watching it.
Anyone watch he finale yet? I thought it was really good, but somewhat anticlimactic. I really thought it was the step dad. They did a good job with all of the other red herring suspects. The one thing for me that I didn't get was how quickly he became a prison thug. The neck tattoo. Strategizing drug trafficking. I know he was under Omar's "care" but still.
Spoiler: The Reveal I really liked the series but I thought the Financial Advisor being the murderer came out of nowhere. I don't like when you're given a twist that you had no way of seeing or wasn't even really referenced. Big minus for me. Overall, the series was good. Turturro is fantastic, as he always is. The guy playing Nas was quite good too. I wish they were doing more, but it appears they're not going to. A shame.
I was hoping it would be one of the people that we had seen throughout the series. My money was on the step dad. The actual killer was a cheap copout. I like in whodunit type shows when there are subtle clues that you can go back and watch and see. Stuff that you missed or overlooked that makes the lightbulb go off.
Frankly, I didn't really care who killed the girl because it seemed realistic to me that there are dozens of suspects with varying motives and the evidence is spotty. I loved Tuturro in the role, I tried to think of Gandolfini and know he would have done fantastic, but Tuturro filled his shoes perfectly. Overall I was most insterested in the character of Naz and how it turned out that while he was innocent of this crime and initially seemed like a boy scout, he always had a bit of the "criminal" in him.
