I absolutely love film shorts. My attention span is limited, so watching 5-30 minute works that attempt to tell a complete story and enthrall me is perfect. What's even better is that most shorts are on Youtube. I have dozens that I love, but I will just share two for now; NSFW SFW Focus- Share your favorite short films, and/or discuss them.
Here's a pretty good and unique short I watched recently; Really makes me wonder why more animated shorts don't use a rhyming narration. It worked very well in this case.
Here's one from the director of Cube and Splice. A little corny, but it freaked me out as a kid. NSFW:
I'm partial to Neill Blomkamp. He directed District 9, which wasn't all that amazing, but I found the short film it was based on to be much more compelling.
Most famous Canadian short EVER. Just try and get the song from it out of your head, I haven't after 25 years: The one thing I love about this one is the way the cat screams in it, I used to watch it just for that. It has me in tears every time:
I have wanted to resurrect this topic for some time now. A very nice short, thanks. However, is it a more famous Canadian short than Log Driver's Waltz or Crac? (Really liked this one, by the way...one of my favorite shorts) Focus- Let me introduce you to a genius Irish filmmaker by the name of Ruari Robinson. Here is his first short film, made back in 2001, when he was 23 years old; (Oscar nominated, but honestly, who cares?)
This guy had me in tears. I would pay to watch him do standup. <a class="postlink" href="http://vimeo.com/43312066" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://vimeo.com/43312066</a>
Best I have seen in ages. <a class="postlink" href="http://vimeo.com/13121783" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://vimeo.com/13121783</a>
<a class="postlink" href="http://noirhouse.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://noirhouse.com/</a> One of my best mates created this, (he's the bloke in the hat) it's fun and looks like it will be getting picked up by a network which is rather cool. Enjoy.
I can’t believe this is a fan film, it is so well done. This has more suspense, thrills, and better direction and acting (by the main character) than every Friday The 13th movie put together. The real fun starts around 25:00.
More insane entertainment in seven minutes than 95% of most full-length movies today. I am dying here.
What an outstanding topic started by my wickedly smart and debonair twin brother! Here's a light, funny early work by Jason Reitman, imagining purgatory as some low-end bureaucratic hellhole staffed with annoying paper-pushers.
I cannot believe this is a real building that exists, so it must be CGI, and if so then I have never seen the handheld camera simulated so well.
It’s not real, but it sure as hell seems that way. “The Backrooms” is an urban legend and Creepypasta not unlike the Russian Sleep Experiment: An endless office maze of buzzing fluorescent and offensively-toned walls.
This looks terrifyingly like a building I worked in about 7 years ago. It was a complex of three office buildings connected together. Each was 2 or 3 floors, and each could accommodate at least a thousand employees. The complex changed ownership 3 times in 5 years and wound up with a guy who wasn’t interested in upkeep but wanted to demolish them and redevelop. By the time we left, my office of 150 people was the only tenant left. Entire buildings and floors were essentially abandoned and unlocked, and a few of us would wander around from time to time. It was spooky as hell and looked amazingly like the opening minute of this movie.
