The filter finally got clogged totally. Only a trickle was getting through. There's a spinny thing in the water intake that catches straw that I cleaned out, and I *think* I flushed the filter into a compost bucket correctly. My particular filter is one of 3 models in the instruction book. It only goes into detail on how to flush the models with the squeeze cranks. Mine doesn't have a crank. Water is getting through and looks clear so I think I did it. It should go back to good clarity overnight. It's been 12 days since I set it up, so I probably need to do a basic flush and maintenance every week or 10 days.
Good news is that the tile guy was consistent. The bad news is that he was consistently bad. Had the valves too far out in BOTH bathrooms. So I had to cut the tile away tonight as the plumber is coming tomorrow to move them back. Tile dude will come out later and retile everything. BTW, leaving for work at 6:45am and getting home at 9:15pm really sucks. Too old for days like that anymore.
Half joke, half serious. I hate the way they look but having a bunch of flies circling in the living room is gross. I bought a jumbo box of fly tape and I'm not looking back. Every single time either of the back doors open a bunch come in, and often the door gets left open too.
Why use fly tape when you could simply release a herd of frogs in your house to deal with the problem? A natural solution, with a frogs legs feast at the end.
Sounds like a solid Jeremy Clarkson plan. (For those of you that haven't watched Clarkson's Farm, I highly recommend it).
Anyone else seen the video of the Lake Arrowhead crazy lady yelling at and chasing a male duck because she thought he wasn't getting consent to mate with a female duck? It made me laugh and think of this conversation. Excuse the idiot commentary, it's the only video on YouTube that could be embedded here, I think.
No, wasn’t just you. I’m sure there’s significant overlap among the “ducks need consent too” and “the patriarchy won’t force me to restrict my breasts “ crowds.
New ducks. We had to drive 2hrs to get them, but they are about what I was looking for: Golden 300s which are an egg laying hybrid, and they are just now starting to lay. They were for sale for awhile and the lady dropped their price a couple times. I lowballed and she accepted. Paid 16/bird plus a free drake which we will slaughter and eat within the next week. She also kept a good number of chickens, and I think this was an experiment into duck keeping that failed for her. These are the most nervous birds ever, though. If I come outside, they disappear. They were so scared when we got home that several of them were about to hurt themselves trying to get away. I think with time they will settle in. I have steady egg sales and my girls are becoming more seasonal as they get older. I swapped my drake out for a new guy but we won't get babies til the spring. Once we get new ducklings in the mix, I can see about selling some of the older girls maybe.
