That's awesome. You should take a picture of the tree to ID it. There was a neighbor on a nearby street with a tree that was like you described, just humming and vibrating with bees in the spring, and it smelled nice too. I went back a couple years later because we lost a tree to wind damage and I was thinking to replace it with the same type but the tree has been removed! Oh no! Think of the bees!
We briefly had a honey bee colony move into the hollow tree in front of our house, but they only stayed a few days, decided they didn’t like the look of the place, and moved on. I was very disappointed. My tomato plants look like ass this year. Again. Last year, everyone else’s did too, but this year theirs are thriving and mine are not. I’m not sure what the issue is, but I need to pay more attention to them next year. And it’s really pissing me off that I’m already looking ahead because this year’s crop isn’t growing well.
I planted too much in a small space so now I have squash ( which I don’t even eat ) cucumbers, beans and other stuff growing all tangled together. Theres lots of blossoms and I have some zucchini to pick soon, hard telling if I’ll get any watermelons or cantaloupes. The pumpkins are looking great. Of all the things I grow I enjoy those the most. We only use them for decoration or to give away before feeding them to the chickens, but I enjoy it. Next year I’m gonna focus more on smaller things ( except for pumpkins ) and grow more herbs. Now that I know how to properly harvest basil I thoroughly enjoy it.
Among the other things I wanted to do today, I had two ideas: Idea #1 Our potatoes are harvested by this time of year, every year. Although I suppose I could, I don't bother with planting anything else in the beds. The weeds seem to love it though and then every year I have to weed the bed in the fall or spring. This year I decided to try something different. I covered it with landscape fabric that will keep the weeds from growing but still allow water to get in. There's plenty of organic material in there to keep the worms happy. I put the pavers on top to keep the fabric secured. We'll see how this works. Idea #2 Once I got through with Idea 1, I decided to see about putting down pavers on this section of what used to be a bird pen and is now just a pain in the ass to mow. I had sand, fabric, and pavers, so it should have worked right? Wrong. After probably an hour of trying to get the first five pavers just right and level, I realized the stupidity of the situation, said "fuck this" and put everything away. The fact that it's like 90 degrees out should have stopped me to begin with but sometimes I'm an idiot. It's a great idea, it'd make a great spot for potted plants and maybe a small table. But the execution, not so much.
The tomatoes aren’t doing great, but I got enough of them for a small batch of homemade sauce which I made a couple of days ago. The cherry tomatoes and cherry peppers are coming in great, and I’ve got enough beans to feed an army. The eggplant and bell peppers are a bust so far. Overall the vegetables are doing better than last year, but I’m already thinking about how to improve it for next year.
I think I mentioned before that a neighbor down the road is letting me sort of protect his meadow from the county mowing it and letting the milkweed grow in for the Monarchs. He also said to take all the milkweed I want, and there's a patch near the road that keeps getting run over by either the mailtruck or someone coming and going from his house ( for some reason, it's abandoned and he doesn't live there ). I cleared this section near the wildflowers at our place with the intention of transplanting some milkweed next year. It's such a nice day I decided to go do it after trimming up some trees for him. If they all pull through the transplant shock it'll be a nice patch next year and I can keep adding to it then. As I was digging I found about a half dozen Monarch caterpillars so I brought them up here to our existing patch where they'll be safer. Here's one of our resident butterballs: The weather really fucked with my wildflowers this year. Part of me wants to dig up this year's plot and replant it but maybe I'll see what happens when nature takes it's course. I still want to add flowers down the road on a smaller scale next year. It's still progress and less I have to mow I guess!
I decided to upgrade my garden for next year. I'm tired of half assing trellises and dealing with a mess late season. I wanted to try cattle panel arches and found someone selling extras they overbought on facebook marketplace. Got 6 for $28/each. I'm very ready to have a nice garden again. This is the basic inspiration: https://youtu.be/D3c3sBL7wSY?si=jixn1mox2pwU4j9G
Did anyone else get a really wild ad before the video about ED meds or supplements where some AI looking blonde mentions her stepson spying on her in the shower? WTF? That's a pretty cool idea. I'm guessing the peak height on the first one he did to be about 7 foot?
Yesh, that one's on you man. I had ads for replacement windows. I'm not sure of the height because I suck at Calculus or whatever math it would take to calculate that, but probably a little over 6' based on the man standing under it.
I clicked on it again to look at the height and the next ad was about not being able to shit. I’m guessing it’s random. Having watched again my guess is 6 1/2, 7 feet at most. I like it.
That’s wild. And definitely not my kind of porn, which is, well, disturbing. I don’t even want to think- Look I got red peppers to ripen finally!
When the sun comes back up tomorrow, I'm going to post our plants. You're going to be mad at that plant for being an underachiever. I have buds bigger than the dildos being thrown at the wnba games.
