Huh, I would have thought that the soil would clog up the drain in a bathtub. I guess I'm thinking about a mesh screen covering the drain getting clogged like hair does.

It seeps continuously at varying rates depending on how saturated the soil is.

Any ideas for a more permanent solution than the orange fencing? Everything I find "pre-made" either doesn't have curved options to make the 180° end, or is $100+ per ft.

I think if it's 2-2.5ft tall it'll be enough to dissuade the dog from hopping and digging into the shrubs. Nothing will keep the toddler out.

What about a few rows of retaining wall bricks? Not sure of your budget, or how that would work out, but I think that would look nice and do the job.

Welp my season started off great. Started my seeds early, not as early as is best but early for me. Heat mat and all had 100 percent germination. Left them a few days too long under cellophane and 80% gone. Going to have to restart this weekend. Doh. Back to my usual schedule.

I wasn’t totally happy with the “Do Not Mow” signs I bought for the neighbor’s property down the road so I found a company online that makes high quality industrial signs. Wouldn’t you know, they had exactly what I needed:

They look far more professional and hopefully no one messes with them. There’s a lot of dipshit rednecks around here so you never know. I decided to post to our towns facebook group thinking, the more people on board with the idea, the less likely to have problems. We’ll see.

The landowner is happy with what I’m doing, which is really all that matters. I’ll take care of mowing the county highway dept. right of way and monitor things throughout the year. I may add some native wildflower seed, we’ll see.

Now I need to get to work expanding my own wildflower plot. The new one is going to be about the same size as the original one by the look of things.

Here's hoping your rednecks are better than our rednecks. There aren't many road signs here that haven't been shot. That butterfly does look like an inviting target for losers.

My front yard went all to shit this past winter. I neglected it for a few years because of work in other areas, the long ass french drain I built by hand and the back yard.

    How it started....

    Hos it's going...

Still more to do, but at least we have grass.

And if you bury him in the garden, decomp will help grow the veggies.

Great article, thanks for sharing that.

I certainly don’t have to worry about people complaining about what we’re doing. If you could see some of the run down properties you’d easily see why.

I swear, I’ll never understand why people would buy a nice property in the country and turn it into a landfill in less than six months.

I tend to think that it's not intentional, people just drastically underestimate the time and effort required to maintain shit until way after the fact.

I'm tempted to do something like this for my small front yard. It's mostly gardens with a big birch tree in it, with a small amount of grass, but I'd love to get rid of that grass and make it more wild like that.

My neighbours would probably judge me as being lazy.

    They would not be wrong.

That I can at least understand. These people are actively bringing in junk and just throwing it all over the place. And since our town supervisor is one of those types, he keeps the code enforcement guy off of their case.

You’d have to see it to believe it. If I could find a way to discreetly get pics, I would post them.

Having less grass to mow is definitely an advantage. Were it not for the paths I have between the sections, it’d be even faster.

I will always insist that lawns were one of mans dumbest inventions.
