    Another Thanksgiving where the men do the cooking and the cleaning while the women drink Bloody Marys and watch football. Although, this year should be fun. My steaming mess of a cousin is going to be there. Highlights of this past year for her include going to rehab, flunking her junior year of high school, doing angel-dust and disappearing for 6 hours (she ended up in the ER with cuts and scratches all over her legs), and finally moving out of her parents house and working at the local convenient 38 hours a week. Also in attendance will be my aunt who won't admit she is bipolar. The bipolar aunt is not my cousin's mother, but after the bullshit with the angel-dust, she's was her legal guardian for the last 6 months (my cousin just turned 18). There is going to be a fight over those 6 months.

    So amazingly a grocery store near me has turkeys. Mainly because it is across the street from the only Mormon temple in the country, and there is a colony of Americans living there. But they are 40+ bucks for an 8 pound bird.

    So fuck it, I am doing 2 3dollar chickens.

    I don't know how happy to be for Thanksgiving. On the one hand, it will be an extremely welcome break from school, though I will have to use the time to keep moving forward on my research project, so it's not really a total break from school, but I enjoy the research work a lot more than classwork. Unfortunately, the only flight home I could find at an affordable price is scheduled to leave at 6am Wednesday morning. Then I will be heading to Baltimore (from Jersey) to my aunt's house where the real fun will begin. You see, my aunt has a number of family friends who they always invite over for Thanksgiving. This year my aunt and mom talked and decided to invite our family over and I'm extremely suspicious that the reason for this is my mom and aunt are trying to set me up with the daughter of one of their family friends. Now don't get me wrong, I've met her a couple of times before and she seems like a nice girl and intelligent to boot, but I would really prefer to not have my family involved in my love life. In fact, if I had just met the girl under different circumstances, I probably would have been interested but I know if I show even a little bit of interest the families will go ape shit and start ringing the wedding bells. Fuck that noise.

    After that I'll have Friday to relax and meet up with friends and such but then on Saturday I have to go to long Island for dinner with the other side of the family. That should be fine and all but given that I have another 6am flight Sunday morning back here, this is not shaping up to be the relaxing Thanksgiving break I would prefer.

    TL;DR summary: PhD work is relentless and my mom is trying to get me married. #brownpeopleproblems.

    Ten days ago, a friend of mine was at the dog park. Guy is about 50-ish, small in stature. Probably the best person with dogs I've ever seen. Seriously, his are so well-behaved it's remarkable. Anyway, some guy whom I don't know got into an argument with my friend. My friend, thinking it was just an argument, told him to fuck off. Guy pushes friend. Friend pushes back. Guy sucker punches my friend, who obviously had no idea what was coming.

    Fast forward to now: Steve has had two surgeries in the past week. Broke his jaw, broke his nose, broke the bone under his eye. He has something like five plates or screws in his face, and they think they'll have to re-do the jaw surgery because he says his bite doesn't feel right.

    Don't fuck around with stupid shit, kids. It isn't like the movies where you can take a punch and walk away mouthing off. Steve's gonna suffer from this injury for the rest of his life, and that guy's going to jail on assault charges.

    I just bought Mr. P's Xmas present- Some fancy amp, box, Pioneer speakers....just a bunch of shit on his wish list. He is going to have such a woody when he gets it.
