It's one year until my wedding. Guess who's footing the bill? Me and the man! Since our budget is $0 to as-cheap-as-fucking-possible, I have decided to nix a DJ and rent some amps and play some of my own music.

I think I need some help with this one, and you guys seem like prime targets.

I have a huge range of music that I enjoy, so there aren't really genre limits. I just want some fun music that everyone can jam to. For instance:

I guess I associate "fun wedding music" with disco and funk.

Focus: I think you guys can do better than me. Post song names, artists, and youtube links. I will download the best stuff, and in return, y'all will get the warm fuzzy feeling of helping out a broke-ass bride.

Regardless of the song, I say hire this guy to be DJ.

Not only would he be fucking hilarious, I bet he'd come dirt cheap these days.

This guy seems pretty on the level. I can imagine people slow dancing.

Or you could pull a "professional DJ" and load a 4 hour playlist into I-Tunes then grab some beers for the rest of the night.

I really like some of the suggestions so far!

I know there are a ton of really fun yet simultaneously awful 80s songs out there that I want to play, but I never can seem to remember titles or artists. Anyone have any ideas?

Fun fact: Awhile back, I was invited to go see a guest lecturer talk about his book http://www.yourbrainonmusic.com/, it was really interesting. But I somehow thought the singer (maybe I thought someone had told me or I misheard?) from Men without Hats was giving it, and I had/have told many people about this ("Ya, I saw the singer from Men without hats giving a psychology lecture"). Apparently I had been spreading rumours that weren't true, I still have no idea how I got the impression that it was him singing safety dance...

He contacted me and said (paraphrasing) "No that's not me, but I wish it were because that'd be awesome"

I put together the playlist for my sister's wedding that didn't end up happening. Regardless, i had such a good time doing it, and even use it to this day to run to. Awful 80s music, check, really inappropriate music to play in front of grandparents, check, fun current dancy type stuff, check. It was going to be a pretty nonconventional affair, so the music fit the bill too. One thing that she did do that was kind of cool was to have each person request a song with their RSVP. Some people took it seriously, some people requested Ice Ice Baby.

I'll dig out the list when I get home and post some of the real highlights.
