Sunnova B. My trans has started grinding when I shift into 6th. Should be under warranty, but the closest Infiniti dealer is an hour away. Hopefully I have a day off this week when I can take it in in the morning and sit around all day while they drop in a new trans...

I know enough about carbs to know that I'd get someone who KNOWS carbs to take a look or tune the carb on my vehicle. But with any vehicle that wasn't mine for ever I'd check the fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, etc.

As for engines... nothing better than the 351 motor... especially in a '79 Ford (which is one of my favorites of all time)

He is a conversation that happened between me and my customer yesterday:

Customer: I need a repair kit for a brake line.
Wexton: Ok, what size and how long?
Customer: About 2feet and 3/8.(right here, i knew i was in trouble)
Wexton: 3/8isn't a brake line size on a pickup, it should be 3/16,if going across the axle or 1/4going down the frame.
    Customer: Oh i meant 3/16.
Wexton: Ok, do you need the 2 extra fitting and the 2 unions so you can join them, and do you have a flaring kit?(I always ask that, cause it is about a 100 dollar tool kit for a double flare, most backyarders don't have one)
Customer: No, i am after a piece of rubber hose and a couple of clamps.
Wexton: No, that is illegal and it will not work.
Customer: But i have done it on a power steering system before, and it has held up.
Wexton: Maybe on the return side, but not on the pressure side, it is around 1000psi on the power steering, and around 1200psi on your braking system. Plus it is illegal to put that on your braking system.
Customer: It will not hold even if i put a couple of clamps on both sides?
Wexton: No. And push on hose will not hold that pressure.
Customer: But i put it on my power steering...
Wexton: I will not sell you that, but i will sell you some steel line, and some fitting and unions if you would like. Would you like your 2 feet?
    Customer: Sure, ok.

I cant believe that someone would want to repair there brake line with rubber hose, well i should believe it after dealing with people, but i still cant fathom people are this dumb. I really dont know how some people are still alive after all this time. It amazes me that these people remember to breathe or feed themselves.

And that was just one of the idiots I had to deal with yesterday. They seem to come in droves. You always get idiots, but certain days they all seem to come out and yesterday was one of them.

We are so fucking with Darwin. Some of these people should just be allowed to hand their buddy their beer and say "watch this".

We need to thin the herd.

It's a bit of a sad day for me.

Selling my old F-350 SD which has pretty much been a shop truck for the past 3 years. It was perfect for moving everything around down there but I wasn't very trusting of it for longer trips.

    So...

I'm replacing it with a 2009 F-250 SD/H-D... just like this one here but with red accents.

I'm planning on actually putting some miles on it this winter as my Rubicon upgrade project has entered uncharted territory and I'm doubtful I'll have it back on the road by the time it snows. The best part is that it's a business write-off.

I'm guessing there isn't much which can be done for my situation, but maybe someone out there has experience with this:
Bought a used car Saturday (95 Corsica) in IL "as is". It started to sputter and almost die at stoplights Sunday night. This happened on the return trip to Kenosha, WI from Schaumburg, IL. The oil light came on, and I added 2 quarts of 10W-30. Still sputters and bogs down when accelerating as of this morning, so to the shop it goes. I am awaiting a return call for the diagnosis.
My question is "Is there anything that I can do to either have some or all of the repair costs go to the dealer? Also, is it feasible to seek a swap for a different car of the same value?"
Illinois Lemon Law mentions new cars under warranty but not used cars. My initial assessment after research is that somehow the car drove like a champ during the test drive and I got duped since buying "as is" protects the dealer from retribution of any kind.

Did you check the oil first? Two quarts is a lot in that car. You might have done more harm than good. Besides, if it's sputtering, it's probably a fuel issue.

And I hate to tell you this, but "as is" means just that. I don't know of anything you can do, especially in a car that's nearly 16 years old.

Many states give you a window for "as is" purchases to return the vehicle if it flat out dies, or will cost more than the value of the car to fix.

Don't do anything else yourself but bring it to an ASE certified mechanic for and inspection/estimate. Depending on what it is and what it costs will direct your next move. Most dealerships (believe it or not) aren't in the business of fucking over customers, even on AS-IS deals. You can only pull that move so many times before word gets out.

Report back with what the mechanic says.

Ignition coil is malfunctioning, the car was bogged down because only 2 cylinders were firing. Having the car fixed by the mechanic, as well as having him look for additional problems. The car takes 5W-30, so I'm sure I didn't help things, but it was driven under 15 miles with 10W-30 in it so hopefully not a significant amount of damage was inflicted.

Unless it was super cold outside (well below freezing), your car will be more than fine running 10W-30. A 5 weight oil is really only for cars that are regularly driven (and started cold) in sub-zero temps.

Some of you guys seem to know your stuff on American cars , so I'm going to pick your brain.

A friend of mine , down here in Melbourne Australia has a 1969 Convertible 428 Mustang.
I believe it is a Cobrajet. On the back of the car , instead of three and three red lights there are six and six.
It has a "shaker" on the hood and is right hand drive (was probably converted for Australian roads)

He claims the car could be one of three special models made for Ford executives.

He bought the car back in the early-mid 80's and drove it for a few years , but due to a lack of money ( getting married , kids and so on) car has been sitting in his garage for some 15 -20 years.

So, what do you think the car would be worth ?

The truck pictured above is a 95 K1500.

It has a 6" fabtech suspension lift, with a 3" body lift. In the picture it has 37x13.5 MT tires.
With edelbrock headers, with a true 3" dual custom exhaust system.

    The truck is very nice.
When my friend was moving, he sold it. The person/company that bought it, is now going to rip out the 6" suspension lift, and the complete custom exhaust and put it back to stock. It made me cry a little bit on the inside when i had to order all the parts to put it back to stock.

    Found my Ford SD-HD.

It's all the way over in Arkansas so I'm undecided about flying in and driving it home or shipping it.

I usually like to drive my purchases home but it's a truck and the fuel bill will be insane. Hmmm. Wonder if I could get it shipped halfway?

I've got a couple of spots on my roof where the paint has started to fade. I'm blaming myself for caving and running my car through an automatic car wash. Is there any way that I can slow the process down, or even reverse it? I'm pretty poor right now, but I'd rather not be driving a car with faded paint spots all over it.

Hand wax it with a good thick coat and stick to hand washing until you're ready to get a new vehicle.

I only bring my company cars to those auto washes. They royally fuck up the finish on the car unless they're the no-touch wash which doesn't clean shit.

No touch is even worse as the chemicals they use are harsh beyond belief.

Funniest I saw though was a buddy who washed his muddy truck with his new 3500 psi pressure washer. Stripped the paint clean off until he realized what was happening and he stopped.

Hahaha that's awesome. Sucks for your buddy though.

I stopped a friend from doing that down at the shop before. He was just about to connect the water hose to the washer when I asked him what he was going to wash with it.

Pressure washers are no joke. Saw another friend punch through a glass pane on his door and cut clean through some vinyl siding because the pressure was up too high.

I always start at 0 pressure and work my way up.

Yeah, I usually wash my car myself, but I recently moved and the new place doesn't really have a place I can do any washing at. I knew I shouldn't have gone to an automatic, but having a dirty car was driving me crazy. Guess I really learned my lesson.

You recommend any brand of wax over another? Or does it really matter?

    Thanks for the replies guys.
