What happens when you mix up characters from The Wire, Luther, and Dawson's Creek? The Affair.

And the first episode was damn good. I watched it on YouTube and was enthralled despite the naughty bits being edited out.

I figure I would start a thread for it in case anyone else has thoughts.

The narration of the police interview plus the prank hanging was brilliant. It immediately put this into "These people are so fucked up, and it is going to be amazing to see their lives twis" territory.

I remember seeing it talked about somewhere, and the premise just didn't do anything for me.

I might have to revisit it and catch the first episode, based on your recommendation.

You vouching for it, in the WiseGuy sense?

The premise is working for me right now. It's unlike anything I have seen before on TV.

I'm vouching for it in the "best tv show I have seen in a while" sense. It has a lot of potential.

I felt the same way, I figured it would be a typical adult family drama - you know, lots of talk about feelings and shit.

Not at all. There's a mystery underlying it all, and the way they split the points of view between Dominic West for the first half and Ruth Wilson for the second half is really cool.

It's got a 'True Detective' vibe, because most of the story is being told through flashbacks. So you're trying not only to figure out who's right - from a Point of View standpoint - but at this stage, you're trying to figure out why the cops are involved.

I'm definitely enjoying this show quite a bit.
