w00t Do not watch this trailer, in spoiler tags, unless you want the ending of Season 3 spoiled. Spoiler . . . Spoiler: and Hopper IS alive.
Looks exciting. I wonder if they are moving on completely from the kids and basically rebooting the idea of the show, maybe with the exception of 11?
No fucking way. The show’s entire anima is based around the kids. This teaser was a bone thrown to all the angry assholes still pissed off about last season’s mortality rate. I thought 3 was the best season yet. I love that it went into hardcore horror.
Not a chance. However, I would expect split story arcs. One with the kids, one with Hopper, and they'll eventually be brought together.
SEASON THREE SPOILERS: I say that’s the safe bet. And even more, don’t forget the kids are somewhat separated too. So I’m picturing a broken, multi-plotted vehicle in several places that brings them together in the finale. Seriously—- who would still live in that fucking town after the Mall thing, even on a show that specializes in spotlighting classic tropes? I also don’t think Billy is dead, besides the very obvious in-screen killing in the finale. Remember when he was dragged into the Upside-Down early in season three? He was encountered by an evil clone of himself. I always thought the “good” version of him was still trapped in the other dimension like Barbara’s corpse.
And, I'm glad they're going ahead and planning Season 5 as the final season, so it doesn't start to suck like the Walking Dead and some others.
I've never watched Stranger Things. The latest trailer looks... kind of amazing. Are all the seasons amazing? Do I just need to suck it up and plow through all 3 earlier seasons?
The first season was amazing (but not quite as bonkers as the trailer makes 4 look). It was new and was sort of the love child of Stephen King's brain and the Goonies. If you grew up in the 80s or liked the 80s, it was a nice tap in to that vibe. Season's two and three wandered a little, but I thought were still very good. They didn't get stale, with the stuff that now is happening in 4 starting to build, and the introduction of new characters. So, I would say, yes, plow through.
Three is AWESOME. It goes full-on John Carpenter/Lovecraft horror mode. It’s the most exciting in the three seasons in my opinion. And the mall and carnival set pieces are amazingly done.
The mall is Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, just outside Atlanta. For the show, it was perfectly recreated as an 80s mall that was a standard part of most of my weekends as an 80s teen. (Because, it was originally built exactly that way, lol)
They nailed it, right down to the small multiplex theatres and the carpeting. Even the name “Starcourt” is perfectly generic. The artistic directors must have so much fun on this show. Also the “invincible henchmen” was perfectly done. Anybody who liked 80’s action films will appreciate that character.
The Hawkins High gym is exactly fucking the same as my old high school gym, except for the color scheme.
For any of you who wonder how popular this show actually is, “Running Up That Hill” is now the number one song on iTunes. It’s over 35 years old. And Robert Englund’s cameo was so perfectly done. And super-necessary.
