    Not sure, but I vaguely remember a post someone made that railed on people that spell it incorrectly.

    Regardless, I need to dig up some form of green to wear to the office and bar afterwards. I intend on peeing green for 3 days.

    I always assumed that Paddy was because the Irish were too drunk and/or unintelligible to properly pronounce Patty.

    I have my Beer T-shirt in green and black and my green shamrock hat. I don't generally do much for St. Paddys day since all the rookies seem to be out in full force but this year two friends happen to be on leave right now so we'll be going out in a big group.

    I think you're right. Its obvious to most of us that "Pat" is short for "Patrick", therefore "Patty" is a derivative of that. Much like "Matty" is short for "Matthew", etc.

    However, since the Irish have an affinity for breaking the law, they seem to find themselves in "Paddy Wagons".

    That seems to be the most logical answer.

    St. Paddy's day is the proper spelling. The gaelic spelling of Patrick is Padraig, hence the d's intsead of t's.
