http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/us-news-blog/2012/jul/31/rapper-snoop-dogg-reggae-lion Snoop says it's for real. He has retired from rap and gone reggae, changing his name to Snoop Lion. Focus: Discuss
Midlife reincarnation - fuckin' eh! I guess that's one way to revive a slowing career - piggy back on a dead man's fame. La La La
How else could he "reincarnate" himself and still manage to be a super conspicuous toker? Going to reggae stereotype seems *quite* convenient.
"I've been telling people they were the light and the lion and whatever other shit I could come up with for years, man, fucking years, and most people just give me a dollar and leave, but this motherfucker bought it."
This is actually not that surprising, when I think about it. If you're an aging, bored-as-shit, rich stoner, you've probably thought, "I should totally start playing some reggae." It's just that instead of wheedling his way into a Wednesday afternoon bringer at the Coconut Lounge, Snoop already has a following that will probably listen to his music, regardless of how dumb it is.
I refuse to overthink this. He's a musician. I don't give a fuck about the who, what, why, when, and where. If music comes out, and I can't fight the urge to nod my head or tap my toe. I'm in. Simple as that. Side note: I don't smoke weed, but something gives me great joy seeing him smoke his body weight in weed.
See, that right there is one of the reasons why I never liked weed, and stuck with alcohol and hard drugs (opiates, cocaine, benzodiazepines). They don't fuck with your head like hallucinogens do (THC is a hallucinogen).
Am I the only one that thinks this is a fantastic and hilarious career move? I think we'd all forgotten how ridiculous a name Snoop Dogg was to begin with.
Same thing i thought. My buddy texted me last night, saying he saw it on the news, he knows i am a rap fan. I just texted him back saying "anything to keep his name in the news"
But really? As far as the rap game goes, particularly in the 2000's-10's dude has kept himself in the game quite well being a guest on a slew of huge singles (which I assume he'll probably keep doing). He's had mostly so-so albums since his debut but has kept relevant for two decades. I think it is more of a branching out thing than a desperate attempt to grab headlines. I gave up long ago that he'd do a final all Dre produced album. I am with the people that if it sounds good I'll listen. Most non Bob Marley reggae isn't catchy enough for me. Just thick bass and simple beats, Marley's stuff isn't that much different but at least he had some catchier tunes.
To be fair, he's just too coked out to cogently make his point. It's much more rare for Benzos / SNDRI/TRI's/Opiods to lead to psychosis in the way that THC appears to have done for Snoop. Hallucinogen triggered psychosis does happen and people it happens too do massively change their personality and the direction of their lives in pretty epic ways. Although he did say that he drinks - and if we're talking about recreational abuse outcomes, delirium and psychosis is absolutely on the table and . Those drugs commonly fuck up your memory, impair general neural function and make you stupid (or in the case of cocaine convince you that you're much smarter than you actually are, which is really annoying when you started out kind of stupid). But they rarely cause the kind of hallucinogenic break from reality that Snoop (and most long duration hippies) appear to be going through. Of course you need to be pretty fucking stupid, or really drug fucked to think that sticking to blow, smack, benzos and booze is going to lead to a healthy outcome. Or that it's less likely to fuck your life up than weed or the occasional inner space adventure with funner hallucinogens. But psychosis is a less common circumstance.
