With all the talk of torture and race, how about a little levity? Whats your favorite Christmas or holiday-themed ______? Mine are: Christmas Movie: A Christmas Carol (The Alastair Sim version). Out of 20+ film adaptations, this is by far the best version of the Dickens story. Christmas Song: Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. USA Today ranked it the worst Christmas song ever. But they can go fuck themselves because its great. Christmas Special: Santa Clause Conquers the Martians (MST3K) Christmas Drank: Hot Toddy or just coffee with Baileys. Egg nog is disgusting. Focus: Post yours, and whatever other topics you can think of. Christmas is in 9 days fuckers. Get merry.
Christmas Movie: A Christmas Story. You're a communist if you think otherwise. Christmas Song: O Holy Night, only when sung by a choir. I don't know what it is but it immediately puts me in the Christmas mood. Christmas Drank: I'm not much of a drinker anymore, but some kind of cider regardless of holiday is always good.
Christmas Movie: Die Hard, Long Kiss Goodnight, Christmas Vacation, Christmas Story. I watch Christmas Story at least 5 times on TBS. It's kind of a perfect movie. I'd watch Bad Santa again, but I've seen it so many times. Christmas Song: Reigning Blood - Slayer Christmas Special: The festive movie I just received in my email from a nubile young lady. Christmas Drank: Mulled Cider. Bourbon. Eggnog and bourbon. Bourbon and ice. Seriously, get the Southern Comfort Eggnog. $3, it is the smoothest spiced custard. Insane. Focus: I'm more interested in dinner. Christmas Eve is a marinara of sea snails (scungilli) and a whole head of garlic. Probably suck down cheap-ass Asti Spumante champagne, maybe a Gewurztraminer that's been in the fridge. Christmas Day is whole tenderloin rubbed in spices (salt, cracked peppercorns, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice) seared, then cooked off to medium rare with a Bordelaise sauce infused with Burgundy truffles I snagged from Dean and Deluca. Also popovers and green beans in garlic and olive oil. Picked up a Chateauneuf du Pape to accompany everything. With a little luck my mom will make a buche de noel cake. Christmas is popovers to me. Not being facetious at all. Those eggy little pillows always remind me of Christmas. Lights, trees, family? Keep 'em. Popovers and cheap champagne. HUMBUG *hic*.
Christmas Movie: Elf, Love Actually, Christmas Story Christmas Song: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by She & Him Christmas Drink: Egg Nogg or the Target Holiday Milk with Rumchata
Christmas Movie: It's a Wonderful Life. Christmas Song: A Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives. Christmas Special: Emmitt Otter's Jugband Christmas Christmas Drank: Mulled red wine
Thank God it's them instead of you Well, will you look at that: I agree with USA today on something. Juice, sweet fancy moses, that song is awful. Christmas Movie: Christmas Vacation is just in a class by itself. The Jim Carrey Grinch is my favorite after that. The talent from theatre vets in the supporting cast allow Carrey to inhabit the fur at his zany best and it's chock full of repeatable one-liner gems. Christmas Song: Elvis, Blue Christmas. Christmas Special: Updates to the Boobie thread. (Bonus points, of course, for the appearance of mistletoe or and elf hat or bell or something.) Christmas Drank: Hot tea with sugar and Jim Beam.
Christmas Movie- Bad Santa, Home Alone Christmas Song Oh Come All Ye Faithful - The Twisted Sister version. Actually anything off that album is amazing Christmas Special- Does the Festivus episode count? I like all of the South Park Christmas episodes. Christmas Drank- Great Lakes Christmas Ale, any of the winter warmers. I could also drink Manhattans any time. It is a Christmas drink this month. The Christmas meal at my parent's house is my favorite meal of the year. We smoke a prime rib, and eat the best sides in the world. That meal and being with my family is more Christmas to me than presents and trees.
Christmas Movie: A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim version). We watch it every year on Christmas Eve and it hasn't lost its potency or power despite being 63 year old. Christmas Song: Christmas in New York - the Pogues. You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot. Christmas Special: The Peter Paul and Mary Christmas concert from 1988. My siblings and I watched it as children, we watch it to this day. I can't explain it, but we love it. Christmas Drank: Hot apple cider with orange slices. Or strong coffee with cinnamon.
Christmas Movie: The Ref. White Christmas Christmas Song: Breath of Heaven - Amy Grant. Christmas in Hollis - Run DMC Christmas Special: A Charlie Brown Kwanzaa, just because it's hysterically offensive. Youtube it here.
Christmas Movie: I don't know. I'm not by nature a sit at home and watch movies kind of girl...It doesn't count as a movie but Merry Christmas Charlie Brown is hands down my favorite. Christmas Song: O Holy Night. Silent Night. Little Drummer Boy. Christmas Special: Charlie Brown. Christmas Drank: Egg Nog. Coffee with Rumchata. My family doesn't do anything crazy for the holidays anymore. We used to have big, huge gatherings. Now, my kids are flying to Texas independently of one another, and The Husband and I are going to spend the day not doing a damn thing until we decide to go to the movies.
Christmas Movie: I guess Christmas Vacation and Scrooged. We don't have a traditional one we watch. Christmas Song: Winter Wonderland (secular) and O Holy Night (religious) Christmas Special: Doctor Who. I'll get to watch it live this year since I'm all caught up on the season. Christmas Drank: eggnog with whatever booze I'm feeling, or hot chocolate with whip cream flavored vodka. Christmas Cookie: I make an eggnog one that is popular, but my personal favorite is a cranberry almond biscotti. It goes really well with the hot chocolate. Christmas tradition: going to see the Nutcracker and buying an ornament. Although this year my daughter didn't want to do it. We started another tradition last year, going to Busch Garden's Christmas Town, so maybe that will replace the Nutcracker for now.
I like currerbell's options the best: Christmas Movie: Love, Actually Christmas Song: Silent Night - my mom used to sing it. I also like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. I like the old-fashioned slow jams rather than the really perky ones. Christmas Special: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's and Charlie Brown's Christmas Drink: Alcoholic - Hot chocolate with Bailey's. Nonalcoholic - I am not a Starbucks person for the rest of the year but MAN OH MAN do I love their Peppermint Mocha. Christmas Cookie: Gingerbread cookies, anything with chocolate and mint, and sugar cookies (chewy not crispy, and with not too much frosting). Christmas Tradition(s): Every year since I was a little kid, I take a stroll around Midtown to see the tree in Rockefeller Center and look at all the fancy holiday windows of the department stores. I remember seeing the tree from being on my dad's shoulders. And he used to go every year with his parents when he was a kid (despite being Jewish), so it's nice to know we've been there every year for 60 years in some way. I've also added a pre-stroll stop at City Bakery to get a hot chocolate with a marshmallow, that's so rich it lasts me the whole year. Every Christmas Eve, my best friend's family has a party that we go to. It's always a really nice night. I get all dressed up and go over early to help them set up and then always stay late. Also everyone gets super drunk and one year it ended up being all Jews except for my friend's family, and I learned that basically all Yiddish words translate to "penis." Christmas Day, my dad and I exchange presents, then I go back to my friend's house for more exchanging of presents and cinnamon buns. Then my dad and I either do a nice dinner or Chinese food. Then my best pal and 1-3 other friends go to the movies at night. Christmas gives me the warm fuzzies.
Christmas Music Two main styles of Christmas music appeal to me, not one specific song. I'm not at all religious, but there's something incredibly powerful and amazing about a monster pipe organ in a big church. I love to go and just enjoy the music at this time of year, even if I do tune out the preaching. The other is pipe and drums... year round. A close third is New Orleans style carols, like Harry Connik Junior's Winter Wonderland:
Christmas Album: Mr. Hankey's South Park Christmas Album. I can't pick one song. We listen to the entire album during Christmas Eve Dinner. Christmas Special: Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special. 5 year-old me was SO confused by k.d. Lang and Grace Jones, but I am obsessed. Christmas Movie: Meet Me in St. Louie. Technically not a Christmas movie, but Judy Garland singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas makes me cry every time I watch her. Christmas Drank: Homemade Bailey's. Every year there are three or four different gatherings in which one of my relatives will attend and bring their own Bailey's to Christmas Day dinner. Christmas Tradition: On Christmas Eve we play South Park Christmas during dinner while the Christmas fireplace plays on the TV and we eat salmon balls, steak, cabbage and noddles, mashed potatoes, and peas. It's the one tradition I don't feel obligated to attend. I actually look forward to it.
Christmas Movie: The Ref, it hasn't aged a day. Christmas Song: The Joy of Silence by the radio being thrown across the room, because I hate Christmas music. Christmas Special: Doctor Who and Top Gear, I'm really looking forwards to the Don't go to fucking Argentina Special. Christmas Drank: Gin and Tonic, because why deviate from success. Christmas Tradition: The Christmas Booty Call, because getting ready for the New Years booty call is important.
Christmas Movie: A Christmas Story Christmas Song: Christmas Special: Hell naw. Too much. Christmas Drank: Whiskey, cider, and ginger. Garnish with orange peel if you're fancy. Christmas Food: Standing rib roast. For sure. Christmas Tradition: Teaching loved ones how to back a trailer in mall parking lots. They're totally empty and there's so much less pressure on the driver.
Christmas Movie: I'll go with Bad Santa, Christmas Vacation, Die Hard, and Love, Actually Christmas Song: 'Mary Magdalene Blew Me Under the Merry Christmas Tree' Christmas Special: Porn version of above song. Christmas Drank: Vodka infused with vodka, preferably with a lady ho ho ho. Edit: And Juice, seriously? I like Paul McCartney but that song is one of the biggest piece of shits written and inflicted upon the public. Ever. It ranks up there with 'Muskrat Love' and 'Love Will Keep Us Together.'
Christmas Movie: Scrooged and Christmad Vacation Christmas Special: Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire Christmas Drink: Egg Nog and Baileys. Christmas Cookie: Peanutbutter cookies
