RAVE: Weather turned really nice this weekend!

RANT: I've been really sick since Friday afternoon and am in that zone where I can't sleep or can't stay awake... congested chest, no nasal congestion... bad chest cough, etc. The CPAP has been quite interesting during this, my first sick period trying to sleep with it.

Rant: Same as above. My wife JUST got over some kind of sinus infection. Now it seems I have it. Felt like straight ass on Friday morning and worsened throughout the day.
RAVE: To my utter amazement, I was able to get a 5:45 PM appointment that evening. Saw the same person my wife saw. Steroid shot, antibiotics, cough syrup (the good stuff) and I'm doing somewhat better.
The CPAP was not helping when I woke up Friday morning, but the past couple of nights have been ok.

Rave: I'm finally getting rid of this Toyota Prius that has been in my front yard since 2020. We let an old friend and her boyfriend move in when they struggled during covid. She left in late 2020 and hasn't replied to any messages about the car and all her personal belongings, and is apparently living in Minnesota now, I think.

When I get the title after the waiting period, it's going to a young family in their early twenties and about to have their third kid. Hope they can either use it or get money from the sale. Guy says his parents own an auto shop and can fix it, it'd be awesome if he can.

He's gone. I was able to rush home from work and send him off with love at least. I was never allowed to have dogs or cats growing up and he was my first. I couldn't have imagined up a better dog, a better friend. I'm just heartbroken.

RAVE: Buddy broke up with his girlfriend so for the price of a ticket transfer I'll be in an all inclusive 5 star resort next week. 2000 sq foot suite so it's not like we're sleeping in a room with 2 queen beds. He didn't even date her that long! Its amazing.

Rave: Saw Ice Cube in last night, i live 1000 miles from a major city, but for some reason he came to a town only 500 miles away. The opening acted kind of sucked, but he rocked a 2 hour set. Fucking amazing

Rant: Some guy put each of his hands on my each of my shoulder. I grab his finger just about to twist it and lay him out, but i didn't want to get kicked out, so i didn't. But the fucking adrenaline dump had me shaking for 5 minutes after. Been a couple of decades since i been that close to a fight.

rant: had to put one of our dogs down today. The little blind and deaf one who wandered off a few months ago and we presumed dead, until we randomly encountered her far away a few days later. Her back legs went out, she was struggling to breathe, and was in clear and obvious pain.

rave?: she made the decision easy for us to humanly end her suffering. Long life for a tiny chihuahua too -- 15 years. Max she ever weighed was 4 lbs. She was just over 1 lbs when she was put under.

Rant: One of my co-workers' had to go to the hospital by ambulance and one of the medics was a guy I used to work with when I was a paramedic. Apparently he told the wife, also a co-worker, about the nickname he bestowed upon me 20+ years ago. ( He and others did that for a lot of people, everyone had a nick name. ) When she told me, I laughed, told her the story behind it, and that it was something I was commonly called by medics and firemen througout the county "back in the day." She said she wouldnt tell anyone at work, but since then she's used it - twice quietly, and once not so quietly this morning. I heard her, but didn't respond.

It's not that it bothers or embarasses me, but it's from another time in my life and I don't want it following me in this work life. Anyone from "then" is free to call me that, and some do, but not "now", they haven't earned that right, if that makes sense.

We're gonna have a conversation this afternoon, or the next time she says it.

    Petty, I know, but...

Rave: I have a plan in place to retire at the age of 65 1/2, on the last day before Christmas break in 2039. I'll turn 65 in June that year, but need to stay a few months over to get my full 20 years* on the insurance plan, at which point upon retirement it's FREE for the following 20 years. The only flaw in my plan was our mortgage, which we refinanced in 2016 to do a build out and new kitchen. I thought we had a 30 year mortgage and was prepared to stick around a couple extra years if I had to.

My wife informed me last night we took it out for 20. The house will be paid off no later than 3 years before I retire. My plan is full go, fifteen years and done.

*I won't have a full 20 years for my state pension, but it's only a couple hundred dollars a month difference so fuck it, close enough.

Rant: A new doctor took Jägerette's mom off her high dose potassium supplement after her last hospital visit. Her mom needed the supplement and the lack of potassium caused a system failure in her. She has very little time left.

Jägerette and I are racing home from Scotland to see her as it could be hours left.

Also, tomorrow is Jägerette's birthday and her mom's passing on her will ruin her birthday for a long time.

She will have lost her mom and brother in less than a year. I have no idea how she will hold up.

Fucking mega-rave: I've long been able to remember yesterday's date as a childhood friend's birthday. We arent in contact anymore, and I haven't seen him in a decade or more; he moved to West Virginia I think. But I've always been able to remember that May 9th is his birthday. But now I'll remember it for something perhaps far more momentous as, yesterday something happened that I hoped to see, but never believed would really happen.

Think of the most toxic, stab you in the back, walk all over everyone, nasty cunt of a coworker you've ever met. Multiply that by 10. That's a person at work who, somehow, some way, actually got promoted to management about this time last year. Last evening I learned that this person was told she could submit her resignation or be terminated. I'm told she chose to resign, effective immediately, and was last seen walking out in tears, with someone helping her carry boxes from her office to her vehicle.

Now, I'm not one to celebrate someone else's misfortune. It's wrong, and it's mean, it's not the way I'm wired.

After a celebratory beer, I called my wife:

"You're not cooking dinner tonight. I'm not cooking dinner tonight. Karma is taking us out to dinner."

So she chose Texas Roadhouse for a celebratory dinner, and I wasn't going to argue. The steak and shrimp was delicious, washed down with two ice cold Yuenglings. Only one thing could have been more delicious.

We reap what we sow, and this person reaped a whirlwind so strong not even Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt would chase after it.

Edit- Didn't realize this was the Rant/Rave thread so RANT:

I went outside around 11:30pm and saw a slight glow but it could've just been downtown lights. Nothing like that!

Rant: our new puppy Zuri has parvo. We caught it early, so she has a relatively good chance of survival, but she isn't out of the woods. She will spend at least 2-3 days at the veterinary hospital before we can bring her home. This was after fighting to find a vet hospital in northern Virginia that would take her. It's so contagious, many vet clinics won't. The 24hr hospital we initially went to kept her.

It takes 3-10 days for symptoms to start after exposure so she may very well have had it before we picked her up from the breeder. We did take our other dog, Alfie to doggie daycare Thursday & Friday, so it is possible that while he's vaccinated for it he could've brought it home. Otherwise, she hasn't been around any other dogs, or been anywhere other dogs frequent since we got her.

We have to pitch or sanitize every dog toy, crate, bowl, etc she came in contact with in addition to sanitize the house & yard.

There is actually a Rave: Family doesn't always mean blood relative. The neighbor I grew up with in Pennsylvania that's a veterinarian: he walked us through everything the vet here told us and suggested a new treatment the vet here hadn't considered. He even offered to come here (a 4hr drive) tonight to treat her if the local vets wouldn't take her.

Also, I'm thankful we have the means to care for her. She's 11 weeks old tomorrow. We brought her home a week ago.

I'm fucking spent. My wife bore the brunt of this as she took her to the vet while I stayed with the boys is beyond wiped out.

Mother fucking RAVE!!!: That new monoclonal antibody treatment? Outstanding! One of the vets at the clinic here was nearly in tears while telling us how amazed she was with how fast Zuri improved. The vets at this clinic are ecstatic at what it means for future parvo cases.

Zuri was doing so well we were able to bring her home last night instead of her staying there another 2-3 days 1000007842.jpg

Rave: One of my favorite musicians is coming out of retirement for like 5 shows and ones an hour and a half down the road. Lodging and tickets acquired, Robert Earl Keen if anyone is interested in the particular act.
