I'm reviving this thread because I've discovered your new favorite podcast: DVDASA. It stands for Double Vag Double Anal Sensitive Artist, or just David & Asa, referring to hosts David Choe (dude who earned millions in stock for painting the Facebook offices) and pornstar Asa Akira. It also features comedian Yoshi Obayashi who is also David's janitor. This is the most absurdly hilarious podcast I've ever listened to due to the hosts all living such ridiculous lives and being brutally honest about all the fucked up things they've done. If you like Tucker's stuff, you will love this shit.

No idea if it's been mentioned and too lazy to look but The Bugle is a great podcast. Forty minutes of high quality bullshit.

Not sure where else to put this. If you're a fan of literature and science this is well worth listening to. It features the following participants:

Cormac McCarthy: Arguably the best living American author.
Lawrence Krauss: One of America's most prominent physicists. He's a leading figure in atheism and has involved himself in several debates on religion. He's like a less articulate and less political, but smarter Christopher Hitchens. His book A Universe From Nothing is fascinating.
Wener Herzog: A German film maker. I don't know much about him, but after listening to this conversation I'm going to have to check of out a few of his documentaries.

If you smoke weed I recommend toking up before you listen to it.

I recently found out about Nerd Poker and it quickly became my favorite podcast. It's Brian Posehn and a bunch of his friends playing Dungeons and Dragons on-air. Nerdy as hell and Blaine Capatch should chill the fuck out for a second or so, but I love it.

One I’ve been listening to lately that’s pretty funny is Cum Town. It’s pretty irreverent and offensive, so not everyone’s cup of tea and the guys are a little douchey, but makes for an entertaining drive to work.

Apart from one random post from Juice, it's been a solid nine years since we've used this thread. Jesus Christ, time flies. I'm curious about people's podcast tastes these days...any recommendations? Any shows you absolutely don't miss an episode of?

I'll break the ice, although with a caveat: for whatever reason, I prefer a video component with a podcast. Hardcore History being an exception, but for the most part the podcasts I watch are consumed on YouTube, and it therefore skews me against audio-only formats.

Never miss an episode and have alerts set up so I know when one drops:
    - Cleared Hot (Andy Stumpf)
    - Anything with Darryl Cooper (Martyrmade, Jocko Unravelling, etc)

Likely to watch some/most of each episode:
    - Jocko
    - Congratulations (Chris D'Elia)
    - BRCC (core four only)
    - Making Sense (Sam Harris)
    - Impaulsive (Don't judge me)

Watch snippets or shorts, occasionally full episodes:
    - JRE
    - ZDoggMD
    - Under the Skin (Russell Brand)
    - Lex Friedman
    - Jordan Peterson

I just got tired of podcasts. Used to be that I listened to them all the time on a 45 minute drive to/from work... then when I was working in the shop, etc.

But so many of them became too political, or started to have too many opinions about shit. Or just became more of the same shit.

I ended up moving over to a ton of audiobooks now when I'm doing things like woodworking, lawn work, etc.

For instance, I used to be a big Adam Carolla fan, but he became very formulaic and full of himself way too fast... and then he started going right off the political right deep end. I just got tired of it.

I got tired of a lot of the drama in things, period. Enough! Just fucking stop with the drama! And maybe I just have enough of the shit that's going on in the world... I just don't care any more. I'm getting old, and tired... and just want to fuck off in the middle of the woods in my trailer and be away from 99% of people, because I fucking hate them now. THAT is what all this Trump and COVID shit has done to me... made me realize just how many people I want absolutely nothing to do with. And it's a bit depressing.

I've also started to follow many more YouTube channels... and do that more than I watch TV.

Sorry for the off-focus post... but maybe people can point out something that might bring me back around to podcasts?

100% agree. I dropped ACS and JRE for the exact same reasons. ACS is unbearable now. The only ones I like now are Hardcore History and the aforementioned Cum Town.

So very much this. A lot of people have went down this path because that's where the money is.

I listen to TWIV and some other podcasts by Racaniello for Covid information.

I also like Skeptics Guide To The Universe, but it has a bit of a left leaning viewpoint. Though it's not to egregious IMO.

I’m still basically listening to the same podcasts I was 9 years ago. I enjoy them but don’t have enough time in a day to add additional podcasts:

    WTF (Marc Maron)
    Stuff You Should Know
    Science Friday
    Planet Money
    This American Life
    Fresh Air

    WTF
The Preston and Steve Show - mindless morning radio with zero political or right/left BS - it’s long form too, usually around 2.75 hours
    Real Dictators
    Hardcore History

I have a 55 minute commute each way so podcasts are typically how I pass the time, I just can’t get into audiobooks, I like actually reading books.

I find I've abandoned all television/movies and most times music in favour of spoken word - podcasts or audiobooks. If you have Audible and enjoy true crime, I can't recommend stuff with Jim Clemente enough. "Call Me God," about the Washington State snipers was out of this world. They did a deep dive on the LEO and victims, rather than focusing on the perpetrators. Which I think should be the tactic when it comes to indiscriminate violence. Another Audible podcast that follows identifying the Golden State Killer, mainly by Patton Oswalt's widow, is very well done also.

If you want to get into non-political podcasts, that's tricky nowadays without going genre-specific (ie true crime, etc). I like the ones on Jocko where he interviews soldiers of modern wars - the Dakota Meyer one was particularly moving. I have to also agree on Smartless...anything with Jason Bateman and Will Arnett, I'm in.

99.9% of the reason why Cum Town is so great is because Mullen is the funniest person alive. The other two idiots just ride his coattails, anybody else could fill their shoes.

I think Adam is funny, just unintentionally. The episode where he shit his pants during the podcast was hilarious. Stav is basically just there.

Someone archived all of Nick Mullen's tweets before he got banned and is reposting them. It's some ballsy shit to post on Twitter.

I was never a prolific podcast follower, but I quit JRE and Adam Corolla for the same reasons.

Recently, I started listening Dwight Vick's podcasts. He played for VA Tech in the mid late 90s so it's a nitche topic that has my interest.

History Nerds United is podcast by a coworker of my wife that interviews authors that's not bad, but he only has 4 episodes up.
