Now that I'm awake, and not posting on the iPhone, I'll ammend my previous statement:

    It's an Airport Express, and can be found here: <a class="postlink" href="http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB321LL/A/AirPort-Express-AirTunes?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg&mco=MTA4NTc4MTE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB321 ... TA4NTc4MTE</a>

    I have 4 of them.

They're handy wireless stations (802.11G) that also have an audio out so you can transmit iTunes to your stereo, a USB port so you can drive a printer, and an ethernet port, should you want to use it as your wireless base station.

I had a monster printer that needed its own room, so just plugged that airport express into the wall, then a USB cable from it to the printer, then went to my airport express config software to set it up as a printer driver. It then connects to the existing wireless network, and has the printer show up as a network printer for Mac and PC printers.

    Very slick.

I also travel with one of those things, as it's stupidly small, and if I'm in a hotel that doesn't have wireless, or has shit wireless but good wired internet connections, I can then create my own portable wireless network so I can surf porn on the bed rather that sitting at the desk.

It's also handy when I go to a client site or into a co-location.

Probably one of the best products Apple's ever made, and I'm very surprised that nobody else has tried to mimic it in the past 4 years.

Actually, both Linksys and Asus made similar products. Asus made one substantially smaller (you think yours was ridiculously small; this was the size of a pack of chewing gum). Linksys made one substantially more robust. But neither caught on like Apple's did and they're both discontinued now.

You can still get them some places. Models are the Asus ASUS WL-530g and the Linksys WRT54GC. I've used the Linksys; it was pretty good.

I don't suppose there's anything that can just plug straight into the printers USB port? It's just that my stepmum wants to eliminate the need for wires completely.

Apologies for my lack of knowledge.

I've never seen anything like that, personally. I'm thinking that the hardware required to act as a print server (over and above the required wireless connectivity "stuff"), would have more of a power requirement than a USB port on a printer could provide.

For that matter, I'm not even sure if the USB port on a printer has any power, as it's usually just the "flat" USB connections (like out of a computer) that provide power.

    I could be wrong though.

If your printer has an ethernet port, you should be able to plug that into your router and wireless print that way.

And Nettdata, all USB connector types can provide power (5V), but the printer's USB port may or may not be powered.

^ That printer does not have an ethernet port. Also, even if the ports were powered, the printer isn't going to be set up to provide power back out of the primary connection port.

No, you're going to need a power cord of some type no matter what.

I've never used the Airport Express so I don't know what kind of setup it requires... I've typically used dedicated wireless print servers like this:

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.buy.com/prod/linksys-by-cisco-wpsm54g-wireless-g-multifunction-printserver-linksys/q/loc/101/203514371.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.buy.com/prod/linksys-by-cisc ... 14371.html</a>

It basically just turns your printer into a wireless printer. But there's the little box, and a USB cable coming from the printer, and a power cable coming from the wall. So there are wires.

    Apple Magic Mouse

I hated it when I first plugged it in. I only had Tiger installed. All I could do was left and right click. I upgraded a week or so ago to Snow Leopard and was liking it even more once I had some extra functions.

    Then I found this.

    <a class="postlink" href="http://vladalexa.com/apps/osx/magicprefs/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://vladalexa.com/apps/osx/magicprefs/</a>

Magicprefs. It's a little system preference program that opens up this little mouse. It increases the speed of the mouse, raises sensitivity and also gives you a huge amount of options for single, double, triple and quadruple tapping, swiping, all sorts of stuff. I've only begun to see what I can do with this mouse.

I got an app like that. It's called Jitouch, it works with the magic mouse as well as the multitouch trackpads. It seems kinda dumb, but if you get used to using it for a day or two it very quickly becomes second nature to refresh a page, change tabs, etc with the trackpad.

I was going to buy an Magic Mouse earlier in the year, but I tried one out and I couldn't get past how sharp the edges were. It just seems kinda dumb that they'd go from such a rounded edge mouse to this flat, sharp edged thing. Anybody else find this? Anybody with one care to set me straight?

I'm thinking about getting this one for my step-mum's birthday (I can't afford the apple one).

Are they simple to use? I'm guessing (in my role as a technologically challenged numpty) that if she wants to print something, the computer talks to the router, which in turn talks to the ASUS WL-530g?

Is there any reason why it wouldn't work to connect her hp Pavilion DV4000 and hp PSC 2355 printer, or am I just being overly panicy?

    Cheers guys.

Sorry for the double post, but the bastards who's website said they had the above in stock turned out to be lying. I was wondering if this would do the trick?

I am running Windows XP - Home Edition on my PC and have a Canon LBP-800 black and white laser printer.

For some time now , I have been able to print word documents without any problems BUT
when trying to print PDF's the Printing Progress stays at 0 % and then after about 30 seconds to one minute a Windows popup appears regarding Data Execution Prevention with the message
"To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program" along with a Change Settings button and a Close Message button.
I have tried changing the settings with no luck.

Also , If I try and print a webpage , the browser window is immediately closed.

Can anyone offer any help ?

I have been researching docking stations, and I am at a complete loss. Maybe someone here can help.

I am looking for a docking station to use with my new laptop that runs windows 7, 64 bit. It seems far too complicated to get one that is the same wattage as this comp (65w), so I'm not even bothering with that. All I need is a docking station so that I can connect the following to it:

    1. Additional monitor
    2. speakers
    3. various peripherals (external hard drive, cordless mouse, etc...)

It does not seem like it would be that hard to find a decent one, but I have read reviews for several days now, and I cannot find even one that does not seem to have a ton of problems. I am willing to pay for quality, just want something that works. thanks in advance...

I'm looking into buying a combination printer/scanner/copier and was hoping for some advice. I haven't owned a printer in close to a decade so all this fancy shit confuses me.

I run windows 7. I'd like to be able to print wirelessly directly from my computer through windows as well as my wireless router (I think you can do both but I'm dumb and might not be understanding things properly), and also through USB. I like to keep my options open.

I'm not too worried about speed but I would like to keep the quality high as I will probably use it to print pictures. Also, I see that some printers can print on both sides of the paper instead of just one. I'd like that ability as long as it doesn't end up being too costly of an option. I'd like to keep the price close to $200 but I would probably be willing to get closer to $300 if the features are worth it to me. Hopefully that price range is realistic.

Are there any other cool features out there that I'm unaware of?

    I appreciate any help.

    HP Photosmart C4780 <a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.com/Photosmart-C4780-All-Printer-Q8380A/dp/B0027ISA2S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269107275&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.com/Photosmart-C4780- ... 275&sr=8-1</a>

This may be too basic for what you're after, but it's what I got my stepmum for her birthday. It's wireless, prints really nice photographs and is as cheap as anything-you even get the ink cartridges with it, which in itself isn't amazing but here in the UK to buy them seperately would cost half as much as the printer does. As a disclaimer, I did buy mine from Amazon, but not from the seller in the link above (I'm guessing you're in the USA or Canada, hence the amazon.com linkage).

    Hope that helps.

Bought a Brother BW Laser printer today for $149.00 from Staples. Wireless connectivity and the toner cartridge yields 3000 pages. And it does duplex printing, which is great for those 30+ page papers. I do mostly plain BW text printing for school, so this is all I need. Man, the prices on these have dropped.
