I got into this show last year, and starting watching the new episodes that came out last week. Anyone watching?
Yeah I finished the season already. I liked season 3 a lot. Ive really come to enjoy the flashbacks/backstories more than anything else. The show does drama really well. I liked the little old Asian lady's story the best. The two main men in the show now they play all over the map. The Head CO and psychologist. They make you feel so bad for them at times and then they go and do something super fucking shitty. Who saw Steve the Drunk* and Captain Janeway having a serious thing? I think Piper's story was probably the weakest of all the main characters. Though her new squeeze is a smokeshow.
I agree that Piper's story was the weakest this season, although the storyline I cared the least about was the "Norma is a Religious Leader" stuff. I loved her backstory, but that whole thing where she has special powers and then her followers turn out to be shitty just didn't interest me. I like how they introduced the "Martha Stewart" character. The famous woman who got arrested for tax evasion and they are hoping she comes to the prison is Martha Stewart in the book. I thought that was a clever addition. On a side note, I'm obsessed with Ruby Rose now. It's bordering on girl-crush at this point.
I forgot about Norma, that was useless and shitty. Still a good season. The lady that plays the former Warden, or head of the prison, who randomly fucks the handle bar mustache dude this season, has been perfectly cast as a super bitch. I mean central casting doesn't get a much better example of a woman who just exudes bitch (maybe Lena Headey). Good times.
There didn't seem to be a real tension this season as far as a main plot line. I really love the backstories - they are all so well done, and most of the time you have no idea what's coming next. I agree that Piper's 'new squeeze' - is attractive, but the short hair and tattoos totally ruin it for me. I thought Boo's backstory was the most interesting.
I liked Boo's backstory, but I actually thought the blond tweaker being Amish was the best of them. I loved how they very slightly foreshadowed it with little things like her randomly understanding and replying when Poussay spoke German, or speaking rather intelligently on religious structure. Caputo, man his backstory was harsh. Just a generally really good guy who is always getting shit on to help other people out. There's no fucking way he still has that job at the start of season 4, what with the COs walking out and then half the inmate population getting through the fence to go swimming. I hated Red and Healy having "a thing" It felt weird and forced. Fucking Lori Petty. I love her, and she's perfect for this show. Why did they have to make her a conspiracy nutjob? Is Alex going to be alive? Is Laura Prepon coming back for season 4? God damn, I felt bad for Pensatucky. That girl gets raped a lot. How did she and Boo become friends again? I fucking love the dynamic between the two characters. Piper... meh. She has become less and less sympathetic as a character as the show progresses. My guess is that in season 4 her panty gang or whatever will be a big thing and she'll basically be running her own prison crew.
Chang wins the award for best backstory hands down. It was hilarious seeing her try to work through it with drama therapy.
I was severely disappointed when this happened. Hopefully she sticks around and they can expand on her character next season. It's weird because you can look away from the TV when she's on and still think she's the same age when she did A League of Their Own.
Just finished watching. The last half of the season seriously depressed me. Messed with my head. Just a shit sandwich of shitty things happening. The ending was heartwarming and I felt a tiny bit of relief from the shittiness, and then the end you see that they are getting bunk beds and new inmates and will be packed in like sardines.
I hated that Nickels and Bennett just disappeared in the middle of the season. I know Nickels went down to Max, but I thought she'd be back at some point. Did Natasha Lyonne get fired or something?
I knew she wasn't coming back this season because I cheated and looked at her episode list on IMDB. It made me sad. I googled and there is no word yet on whether she'll be back for season 4. Speaking of IMDB, I had to go there to look up Pornstache to see if that was really him or if they got another actor to play him. He looked sooo different than in previous seasons. Who knew a stache could make that much of a difference?
