    A few miles down the road some old geezer has taken his even older mother hostage in what has to be the most poorly planned stand-off ever. A brief rundown:

    - This morning a team was called for a welfare check on an old lady, about 85 years old. When they entered the house, her son, who is about 65, shot at them.
    - Police retreated, came back with SWAT team.
    - SWAT then entered the house. Old man shot at them again.
    - He also shot at the propane tanks he had placed inside said house in an attempt to detonate them. Several of the SWAT members were injured.
    - SWAT retreated. Brought back armored vehicles. They are still negotating with him as police helicopters circle the house.

    No word yet on whether his demands include being a contestant on Price is Right.

    I can't remember the first couple of episodes or how it played out... but I'm a sucker for any sci-fi that hits TV, so was going to watch it regardless. I've read all 7(?) of the books, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and having watched both seasons I thought they did a good job with the TV show.

    As mentioned in another thread (yesterday?) they kind of re-wrote some of the story elements for the show, and there's no real "season 1 = book 1" correlation that goes on, so you're seeing stuff from the first 3 books show up in season 1 of the show, and new stuff in the show that's not in the books.

    We watch The Expanse. Give it a few episodes to build their fantasy-verse. it has a kind of firefly/dirty space cowboys feel to it. Not as good as firefly IMO but different, and a worthwhile watch .

    Wife's grandfather died last night so I'm making some tuscan chicken, pasta, salad to take over to the in-laws' house tonight. Without thinking I googled "how to transport pot"...
