Not only that, this defense really wasn't that good. If you take away Sharper's pick's what have you got?? Teams will be studying film exhaustively this year on the Saints, I'm sure a "knock down Brees every play" will be put into defensive schemes, N.O is not going to want to get in a shoot out every game again, you would think they would want to improve the defense.

Say what you will about that game I remember him throwing up and not being able to make it to the line to call plays because he was out of breath, in the final drive of the superbowl. I don't care if his coach asks him to throw 1000 passes, it's the Superbowl a leader keep's his composure.

If you grew up with Mcnabb I suppose I'll let you off the hook you are a fellow eagle fan.

The only reason I wouldn't hold a parade in my neighbourhood for the eagles franchise dying in a dumpster fire is because my father and sister are diehards.

Other than that, fuck the eagles and their (categorically speaking) asshole fans.

2001- Rams 29 Eagles 24 (30) Loses to a future Hall of Fame QB, and the team that went on to barely lose the Super Bowl.

2002- Tampa Bay- 27 -Eagles 10 (49) Loses to one of the best defensive units of the decade, and eventual Super Bowl champ.

2003 Panthers 14- Eagles 3 (22) Arguably one of the best defenses of the decade, and possibly one of the greatest defensive lines. Carolina wins the NFC.

2004- Pats 24-Eagles 21 (51) Loses to future Hall of Fame QB in the Super Bowl.

2006- Saints -27- Eagles 24 (??) Doesn't compare to the last 4 playoff loses, but bounces right back after the Super Bowl hangover. McNabb only played 10 games.

2008- Cardinals - 32-Eagles 25 (47) Loses to NFC champions and future Hall of Fame QB.

2009 - Cowboys 34-Eagles 14 (37) This game kinda lets you know maybe it's time to move on...

From 01-10, only 8 starting QBs have won rings. More than 8 great QBs have played since then.

I still wanna know, outside of T.O., who has this guy had? Even then he went through the playoffs with T.O. in a hyperbolic chamber. Honestly tell me, ALL those playoff appearances don't mean shit? There has never been another play maker besides Westbrook on that team. Next on that list is who, Greg Lewis? To say he is not a great QB is not a fair statement. He's had to throw the ball second to only guys like Manning and Brady, EVERY season. To expect Manning/Brady success in that sort of system is ridiculous, otherwise the other 29 teams in the league would be doing it.

Was Trent Dilfer a better player? No, he had a better team and won a Super Bowl. Was Brad Johnson better than McNabb in 2002? No, he had a better team, but Johnson got the ring. Is Delhomme a better QB? Look where he is now, look at his track record, but in 03 he beat McNabb. He's lost to those guys, and Kurt Warner, Tom Brady and Drew Brees (notice I didn't mention Romo, he doesn't count either way) who are all Hall of Famers. And to say he 'quit' during the Super Bowl is a load of shit. What professional athlete would quit when he's so close to whats been his life's goal the last 20 years? He's not the greatest, but after Manning, Brady, Warner, Brees and a few others, there aren't many better single, carry your team, players in the last decade.

I'm not saying McNabb is the greatest QB, he's a borderline HOFer at best, but to say he's not a top tier QB is crazy.

Considering he's suspended for the first 4 games of the season and is in the last year of his rookie deal (and presumably looking at a huge payday next year), we basically gave up a 5th round pick for 3/4 of a season of Holmes. If they weren't planning on resigning him next year, getting something for him while they can makes some sense. It still looks like a steal, but not nearly as big of one as people are saying.

With all the moves they've made this season, the Jets are looking to win NOW. With Sanchez having Cotchery, Edwards, LT and now Holmes as targets (not to mention Dustin Keller, who he loves throwing to), I'm alot less worried about him having a similar pick-fest this season. As long as all the personal problems don't wind up being a distraction, we should be a dangerous team.

The rumor now is that the Steelers were just going to cut Holmes if they couldn't deal him somewhere.

I frankly don't know what's going on over there anymore. I assume they're tired of the legal issues and off-field problems with their players. My guess is that if ben roethlisberger hadn't been accused of sexual assault, none of this would have happened. But the franchise's image started getting dirty, and it was easier to get rid of Holmes than Roethlisberger as a means of damage control.

It's hard not to believe the Big Ben rumors now that it has happened twice. A friend of mine in Pittsburgh said there is a rumor that this girl had been seeing Ben for a while, apparently her family is incredibly religious and she was backed into a corner and nervous to admit about the sex. Of course I can find nothing in print to support this. There was an article in SI that reported the girl describing her attacker as 6'4 and 240lbs, I was kind of confused at that (she didn't know it was Rothlisburger????)

Anyway I love what the Jet's are doing. Let's make a run NOW. Holmes for a 5th round pick seems like a steal, even if it is for about ten to twelve games. If he is running on all cylinders that causes huge coverage problems for DB's, Edwards and Holmes can both warrant double teams. Seeing the deep threat he offers he also can free up screen passes for a certain Tomlinson guy who likes to catch the ball out of the backfield.

The one variable here is Sanchez, with all these weapons and a stacked D he really doesn't have to do much........... except not fuck up.

I think that they are going to try and phase out Rothlisburger this year and hope to get fans on the side of a new quarterback who is not quite the idiot Rothlisburger is.

Absolutely, I have not convicted the guy yet. Usually when something like this happens twice however there is some truth wrapped in somewhere.

I think Big Ben puts himself in harms way more than other athletes. He may not shoot himself in the leg or anything like that, but I think he needs to stop doing beer bongs with college kids and focus on things that Superbowl winning QB's can get. Things like models and actresses.

I totally agree, Mike. Dude makes some seriously bad decisions and he's probably skating on very thin ice with both the Steelers and the NFL.

I would write more, but I have to compose a rant about how my desk was surrounded by feminists taking down my Steelers decorations when I got to work this morning.

I would be stunned to see him traded anytime soon. I do not want to get anywhere near a McNabb debate again but this guy has won two superbowls, he is a proven winner. He is also young and getting rapidly better, he is without a doubt a franchise QB. Unless they have additional information that the public doesn't know about I don't even see how he should be getting a suspension. I'm not sticking up for him, he is acting like a total idiot but he didn't get arrested for anything, all he did was get negative publicity. To compare him to guys who had illegal dog fighting rings and men who constantly violate the substance abuse policy is unfair. Let's say for a second he is truly innocent (I know.....I know bear with me) and just the target of scandals, shouldn't the Steelers and the NFL be supporting him? Wouldn't they owe him that?

Of course good ol' Steven A Smith couldn't resist to point out that he's a white QB so he won't get in any trouble. I despise Steven A Smith.

Anyway there were reports yesterday on MNBC from a Boston Attorney who claimed he was approached last year about Rothlisberger by a client who had similar allegations.

Obviously when there is smoke there is fire, so something does not seem right here. However unless they have concrete facts they should support him, he should know that he is on very thin ice. I would think that he doesn't get a suspension this time but if anything like this happens again, hit him hard with a 6-8 game vacation.

I don't know anything about Big Ben the man, Ben the football player however is a proven winner and a huge asset to any team. We all know America has a short memory and we all know that America loves a winner, he is absolutely in a position to put this behind him.

Lastly, (I can't find the damn article) Ben was quoted as to buying the sorority girls shots and saying "You bitches take my shots he then had a bodyguard escort the young lady in question to a bathroom. Smooth? No absolutely not. Classy? Not even close. They are a far way away from sexual assault though. Again I'm not sticking up for this guy but maybe we should wait until we have all the facts before Peter King suspends him for two games.

I'm sure Brady Quinn is thrilled. The only one more upset than BQ is Rob4Broncos, honestly how do you let a talent like that go?? I know BM was pushing but they couldn't talk him into staying a year to check out Quinn?

What is a phenom like Brandon Marshall going to do in the "Wildcat?" He has more receptions in a game then they have passing attempts.

Oh well, congrats Miami you better get some talent on your team if you want to step in the ring with the JETS.

The problem is consistency. The name being thrown around right now is Pacman Jones. Jones was actually suspended before the Las Vegas DA even announced whether charges would be filed. There are plenty of differences in the two cases but it depends on just how you want to look at them.

Jones had a longer prior history of idiocy than Roethlisberger, but none of them were as severe as Ben's prior rape allegation. Also, it doesn't look good that Roethlisberger got the benefit of waiting until whether charges would be filed for his meeting with Goodell while Jones did not.

I'm usually one to scoff at accusations of racism (like Orlando Hudson. Gary Sheffield is 41 years old. That's why he's not signed to a team), but I could honestly see something to that effect here. It might also be because he's a quarterback, or a 2-time Super Bowl star, or the franchise player of one of the league's most popular teams. Nevertheless, if someone wants to "play the race card" here, I don't think it is entirely unfounded. They might wind up being wrong, but there are things they can point to. Perhaps more important is what it would mean to the NFL if people's impression of the matter was that race was a factor.

There's already some blowback in Pittsburgh against him.

The Smoking Gun has all the Roethlisberger witness reports. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2010/0415101roethlisberger1.html

Just skimmed through it, but what gets me is how consistent the reports are and how the girls went right to the cops after it happened. Not usually a good sign. ESPN is also saying there will be some kind of disciplinary action. Goodell has been anything but consistent with this kind of thing but it will be interesting to see what he comes up with in this case. 2-4 games maybe?

Did anyone else catch that show on ESPN with Gruden talking to and criticizing Bradford, Clausen, Tebow, and McCoy? I found it pretty fascinating. I came out of it with high expectations for all but Clausen. It just doesn't seem like he has the work ethic that the others do. I also have a feeling Tebow is going to be a lot better than most are expecting in a few years, and I hated the guy as much as anyone when he was playing for Florida.

Honestly, I don't mind seeing him go. It's obvious he wanted out of Denver. Maybe it's because of his contract situation. Maybe it's because of Josh McDaniels. Maybe it's because of the Darrent Williams thing. At any rate, in his mind he's going to Carolina. No use keeping a guy who's legitimately upset with his current situation, so they dealt him (for a nice price, I might add).

He was a great talent, yes, but he's still a possession receiver who's a traffic ticket away from an 8-game suspension. That's not the kind of guy you pay top-tier money to, much less make the richest WR in history. The guy's not a downfield threat, and it's widely known that the biggest weakness to his game is his ability to catch over the shoulder. That's something he'll need to work on if he's expected to be the big play target in Miami, who has plenty of really good short-yardage guys already.

I don't know if pundits are knocking McDaniels like they were last year with the Cutler deal, since I've been fortunate enough to avoid the filth that is ESPN "reporting," but it's worth pointing out that that's two problem players in two years dealt for more than they're worth. For those of you keeping score at home, Cutler and Marshall have brought in 2 first-round picks, 2 second-round picks, 1 third-round pick, and Kyle Orton (who is much better than he gets credit for). When Scheffler goes (square peg in a round hole, since McDaniels' system prefers blocking TEs), that'll be an additional pick, possibly a 3rd or 4th.

On that note, an extra high 2nd-round pick can really help Denver this year. In a draft this deep, that's like a 1st-rounder. Definitely gives them more flexibility trying to address the WR, C, G, and DE positions. They needed WR help anyway, the Marshall deal just makes it an even bigger priority. I wouldn't mind seeing them take Dez Bryant, since #11 is kind of high for Iupati or Pouncey. I'm hoping they trade down into the 20s for one of those guys to pick up an extra mid-rounder, and get Tate or Benn in the 2nd. I'll also be a double homer and hope they get Linval Joseph or C.J. Wilson from East Carolina. Either of those guys would be a great addition to the D-line.

    6 more days...
