Focus: Pretty funny vid, except Im immediately jealous when I realized this is Leonard Nimoys actual house: Spoiler Alt Focus: My days off can go one way or another, depending on if my girlfriend has the day off too. If she does then she bugs me that we MUST go out and do something and NOT sit around all day. But if Im free to do what I want, heres what I do: -Wake up leisurely to no alarm clock and with the A/C on so it drowns out the sound of my idiot roommate stomping around like a clydesdale when he gets ready for work. -Probably rub one out before I get out of bed -Check out TiB -Go to the kitchen and make a cup of coffee, throw in a little Baileys for flavor and sit down and watch some TV -After about 30 minutes, Ill play video games for about an hour or two -Ill get hungry around 10:30, throw on some less-than-flattering outfit, not comb my hair or shave, and drive around looking for grub -If theres time left, Ill usually settle on McDonalds breakfast, hot cakes and sausage with a hashbrown, and take it back home to eat it in the comfort of my living room -After my hearty meal, Ill probably fall asleep on the couch for a good 2 hours -Ill wake up, and play more video games go lay at the pool (if its not chilly out) and continue to nap -Around 4 Ill muster up some will power and goto the gym and have a lackluster workout -Come home and shower, then maybe go out for drinks with some friends or something -To end the day, Ill come home and watch SportsCenter -Rub one out again -Go to bed
ALT FOCUS: Easy, play video games and depending on the weather I like to do one or more of the following: hiking, snow shoeing or sledding. If I'm feeling ambitious and don't mind spending the cash I like to ski or play paint ball.
Right now, I have the next 5 days off. This will come with me telling myself I'm going to clean and do laundry. There is a chance I will do it today, but most likely my cousin (who is also off today.) will call me to do something and I'll end up getting something to eat, followed by taking her to get groceries, and finally I will have to go on a hike with her. Hopefully, she will not have two days in a row off.
I thought that video was hilarious - don't really care about the song. That Leonard Nimoy doesn't take himself too seriously, and was willing to do that just raised my opinion of him. Spock pissing in the sink and rolling a joint? Nice.
Honestly, I have mastered the art of laziness on days off. If I have the day off from work, I sit at home in my underwear and watch porn and play XBOX. I always wake up with these grand intentions of cleaning the bathroom, doing the laundry, and taking over the world - but alas, ten times out of ten, I get down and dirty with the couch, and that's about it.
I worked my schedule so I'm off Mondays and Fridays, but that doesn't mean those days are necessarily without obligations. But, on those days when I don't have to be anywhere or do anything I'll play on the internet for a while, go to a noon meeting, follow that up with either lunch or coffee with some friends from the group and then go to one of the local rehab treatment facilities and spend some time with the patients. I don't like to be by myself for too long a period of time.
This is how I wish it went: In the winter time I will usually head to the local ski hill for the day. In the summertime I split it between two things, playing golf and drinking in the pool. This is how it usually goes: I lay in bed all day nursing a hangover. It seems that most binge drinking days are planned the day before I have nothing to do.
Leonard Nimoy happens tobe one of the coolest dudes ever. I have a straight guy friend that always says he'd go gay for him ( sounds like a thread possibility?) in a heartbeat. My days off depend on who I am off with. If I am off with my kiddos, we usually go for a hike or to the zoo, something fun. Just me and the man, it's rare for us to really do nothing. We generally go on some sort of adventure. Just me? Alone? I am curled up, watching movies, or reading a book.
I had never wondered what it would look like if The Big Lebowski had starred Spock*, but now I know. And it is good. *Seriously, watch the video again. It's an almost frame-by-frame homage.
Since getting sober I no longer blow thru unexpected days off like I used to but occasionally I take a random day and don't have to lie to management about it. We have to work weird hours anyway so its not hard to take mid week days off. After going to the gym I have a leisurely 3 cups of coffee flipping thru televised Boston sports radio and the fox 25 morning news. If I'm lucky the red sox rewind is on later in the morning which condenses a game so its watchable for me. Then around 11:30am I head out to a crazy noontime AA meeting called the "Looney Nooney" which meant a bunch to me when I first got sober. The afternoon always consists of a good 2 - 3 hour nap or doing laundry/errands after which I go for a bike ride and kill time till my normal evening AA meeting. Yes, even after 2+ years in recovery I still go to 5 meetings a week. Since I have not killed myself by going to them I will continue till I do.
I think real days off are essential... silly me is always to guilty that it's nice outside or that the dog wants a walk or something. This has me thinking that I need to schedule a down day sometime very soon. The key will be turning off the phone, computer, etc so no one can interrupt my day of extreme leisure. I should probably wait till I have the pool 100% clean too since a buck naked swim is definitely on the menu.

I have every Monday off and once and a while me and some coworkers will meet at noon and drink the afternoon away. Lately though it's been a lot of me laying on the couch watching Scrubs. I think maybe it's time to get off my ass.
That video is one of the better things I've seen in a while, the song not so much but Nimoy just seems to get better with age. My days off consist of having more time for my kids, it simply means I'm not at work, but it truely isn't a "day off" It's enjoyable and lots of fun, but I am looking forward to my wife and I's vacation without them for a few days for our anniversary, just to you know....have a day off.
Every day is pretty much a day off with no responsibilities. So what do I do? Pretty much nothing really. I play hockey 2 days a week for about 90 minutes and thats about it. I'm starting school up in the fall and am excited about having a productive, goal oriented life again. That and I get to pretend I'm an undergrad again.
I'm basically going to have the day off tomorrow, except that I have a class 7-9. After that, I'm going to drive down to the auto shop so I can change my oil, put some new gaskets on my exhaust, and then throw on my new aluminum undershroud for my car. Then maybe get some food and a haircut. Then....
There are some days I take just so I can run errands and simply catch up on life: a trip to the bank, get my hair cut, go to the dry cleaners, etc. But I never consider those kinds of days a day off since I'm basically still working--just working on keeping my life in order. Instead, I love love love to take whole days off that include doing absolutely nothing but letting life just kind of happen. If it's a trip to the beach to wander around or to take my man's pooch for a long walk or just sit in bed all day watching bad movies and eating terrible take out, I'm in. Those days always seem to restore my spirit, make me more creative, and just get me back on track. My favorite day was pretty recently... From the R&R Thread: That day was absolute bliss. We still talk about it and get a glazed little relaxed look in our eyes as a result. Perfection.
I have no obligations outside of work. Every day is a "me day". Fuck settling down and raising a family.
