Since the time he was a teen, my husband and his friends would pick what they call "the feel good song of the summer!" which was normally some overplayed obnoxious pop song. I found this out when we were dating and I made a comment about this monstrosity: He responded with "What?! Come on hon, it's a feel good song of the summer!" He then turned it up and joke-sang along to it. Then he spent about 5 minutes trying to remember what year it came out (who cares, right?). A couple of years ago I think it was Katy Perry's "California Girls". What makes it worse is when he decides a song is a feel good song of the summer, he recruits the kids and their friends to sing it obnoxiously loud whenever it comes on. He doesn't even listen to pop music, so I have no idea how he even knows some of these songs exist. Focus: What is your "feel good song"? A song that whenever you hear it you want to turn it up and sing along and it just makes you happy. Is it a song you blare proudly, or roll the windows up and turn down at stop lights?
I don't care how overplayed it is, how much people don't like electronic music, how Aviici might have other DJs ghostwrite his shit, Levels always gets me going even though its a year old. Especially this summer. My friend had it as his wedding party entrance music at his wedding in May and we were pretty much guaranteed to blast it every weekend after that at some point.
I first heard this song one summer during high school. I suppose it's been my "feel good song of the summer" ever since.
This isn't a song where I pump up the volume or sing along, but for some reason it always makes me feel good:
I have lots of these songs. The one that is least likely to resonate with the vast majority of you is this one: I can't hear it without getting the urge to two-step with a pretty girl.
This one has been brought out at the start of summer every year for the last (decade!? Holy shit I feel old now), but I doubt any non-Aussies will know it. Oddly enough, my other two recent summer favourites were both brought to my attention via the board. Katokoch turned me on to Sublime And Crown Royal posted this in a WDT a while (years?) back and I grew to love it.
This song doesn't make any kind of sense, but it reminds me of being a teenager in the late 90's, just cruising around with friends trying to find trouble. And the dude in the video might be my hero. Surrounded by Fly Girlz while stoned on 'Ludes and wearing an ascot, there's a very quit cut where he seems to be inventing the "Makin' it rain" move, only backward. And of course, there's this classic gem:
It's slightly old, but I still bump this: If you can't figure out why I like this, you don't know me at all and we're better off breaking up, and I don't care if this is your reaction: Spoiler
