A little while ago a bloke released a new album after 13 years and it reminded me of something of his I had seen when I was a fair bit younger. The first time I saw the music video for this song was after midnight and it creeped the living shit out of me. Now I've seen it again it doesn't look anywhere near as creepy as it did back then. Focus: What used to make you hide under the covers as a kid that doesn't bother you anymore? Alt-Focus: What still scares you shitless as an adult?
Gmork from The Neverending Story scared the shit out of me as a kid. They dont make kids movies like they used to. Spoiler Bump.
Spoiler The fact that she was just creepily sitting there after being tied down, freaked me out. Spoiler
AMC is playing a bunch of the classic horror movies from the 80's that scared the living shit out of me as a kid. I haven't seen most of them for quite a few years. Watching them now I wonder how anyone took them seriously. I also never realized when I was younger that most of the characters are really shitty people, and now they don't really seem like much of a loss when they get killed. More often than not, I find myself rooting for the serial killer.
Focus: Spoiler Alt-Focus: Spoiler Not a whole lot really terrifies me anymore, but I do get on edge about stuff.
Focus: What used to make you hide under the covers as a kid that doesn't bother you anymore? Friday The 13th movies. I watched a few recently and was appalled by how shitty they were. Laughably bad schlock, terrible writing, terrible acting, nothing was good, or in the end, scary at all. Alt-Focus: What still scares you shitless as an adult? Spiders. Im pretty sure if there is a medical test for arachnophobia I'd pass it with flying colors.
Tales From the Crypt. Sometimes I would catch the opening credits and almost piss myself. I saw the same opening credits a few years ago and laughed at how goofy and fake it looked. But that stuff was scary to an 8 year old!
The scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where they eat the live baby snakes...I was in my early twenties before I could eat spaghetti again.
Focus: The dead kid from "Stand By Me". I watched that movie recently, and the body is not as scary as I remember. Alt-Focus: Zelda from Pet Semetary. That woman will never stop being terrifying to me.
this. i remember seeing this as a kid, maybe 12 years old, and thinking, "yep, never using an outhouse again."
Yes and yes. I hated Pet Semetary (the sequel is a real hoot because of Clancy Brown) but Zelda... I don't know what they did to make a person look that terrifying but goddamn that was under-the-skin nightmare shit. Most scary scenes only truly have a one-time effect. I love watching people watch the final scene of "Carrie" for the first time. It's the oldest trick in the book and they always wet 'em. Poltergeist does not have the scare factor on me that it once did but it doesn't matter, that movie is just awesome as fuck. The ultimate haunted house movie.
Focus: 'It' scared the shit out of me. Not only the story, but how badly they bungled the source material also horrified me. Alt Focus: 'Stir of Echoes' has some really freaky scenes. Especially when you hear the kid on the monitor, and the cut scene when Kevin Bacon is sitting on the couch. I know it's coming, and BAM still sends chills down my spine.
