Every year, once Thanksgiving time hits, I have a playlist of movies and TV shows that the wife and I watch. A lot of these have turned into a tradition around here. Focus: What movies or TV episodes do you watch over the holidays? Are there movies that you watch every year? Alt-Focus: What Christmas movies do you hate, and why? Focus: Every year, I watch the following movies: --National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (while putting up our tree) --Scrooged --Love, Actually (with the wife, always results in me getting some) --Charlie Brown Christmas --The Simpsons Christmas Special --How the Grinch Stole Christmas (NOT the live Jim Carrey version) --Miracle on 34th Street (watch this while wrapping presents) --Christmas Story: I usually watch the entire thing, out of order, in various segments over the course of the marathon on Christmas Eve and Day. This one actually takes place in the town where my dad grew up, and they've taken me past the school it was based on and a lot of the locations the film was based around, so this is one I can watch over and over. My TV doesn't change from the marathon all day. Alt-Focus: I can't stand Its a Wonderful Life. I find it incredibly boring, and I've tried to watch it a few times. I just can't make it past the 3/4th mark. My wife said she can't stand Scrooged and that she "isn't a big Bill Murray fan." I'm still wondering about contacting a lawyer to see if that is grounds for a divorce.
Christmas vacation I watch a minimum of four times this month. Also: The Ref A Very Sunny Christmas Bad Santa Mr. Bean Christmas Special (classic awesomeness) Die Hard 1 & 2 Elf Charlie Brown, Rudolph & Frosty (nostalgia) In fact, I'm gonna watch Clark shit the bed for the holidays right now. Fuck yeah, dog.
Focus: Every year I watch Christmas Vacation a minimum of 3 times. I will probably watch A Christmas Story once. The girlfriend also wants to watch the Chrismukkah episode of the O.C. so I will probably also did that. Other than that, I probably won't watch any other Christmas movies or specials.
I don't think the Ref has aged a day. It's practically a three-person play and it's only dialogue, and Leary, Davis and Spacey just plain own it in every scene. I still think its the best thing Leary 's ever done. Everything he says is hilarious.
I'll watch Bad Santa and Home Alone, and possibly Home Alone 2. As far as television goes, I'll probably watch the South Park episode "Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo". Are you referring to the pilot episode? I don't recall any holiday episodes of The Simpsons that were that great.
I am referring to the Pilot, which I kinda dig. I forgot to mention Die Hard, that one has become an annual tradition, too. That said, I personally hate Elf. To me, its the same old Will Farrell schtick, which I find incredibly annoying (I also dislike the vast majority of his other movies). I'm also not a huge fan of Bad Santa, but I don't dislike it as much as Elf.
A Christmas Story. "Fra-gee-lay...it must be from Italy!" Full Metal Jacket. I like it when they sing Happy Birthday to baby Jesus.
