Sweet mother, they even gave a new ambiguous twist on the first dude Eddard kills, as a lesson. Looks like it's become a new lesson for us. If I wasn't planning on rereading the series before, this has decided me. But FUCK YOU George, for not only not being close to finishing the series, but for insulting Lost in the way he did. Look, I love both series to death, but one is finished (in my opinion, brilliantly), and the other has an author with an 1870 beard, and he hasn't put out a novel in six years. FINISH THE FUCKING SERIES, YOU ASSHOLE.
This seems suddenly appropriate to link. http://www.iswintercoming.com/
I've just got done rereading the first three books, and am currently on A Feast For Crows. Holy fucking shit, this is going to kick ass. The first 15 minutes were amazing. Sunday can't get here soon enough.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/ap ... me-thrones Something to consider for everyone considering starting to read the series with the show. I imagine that those 3 years will be more like 5. I imagine he said 6 each because that means the show & books would finish at the same time. In all likelihoods, that if the show goes the distance, it will be completed before the book series finishes. Also, aDWD might be delayed from July since it's manuscript is huge (1600 pages) and will be split into 2 paperbacks, and possibly 2 hardcovers.
You sure about that? I've been trying to find something about it googling around, can you toss us a link? I know my wife is going to be really pissed to find out about more delays at this point.
I would like to read the books but I am a little confused. Is Game of Thrones the name of the series or is it the name of the first book in the series?
First book in the series. The series as a whole is called A Song of Ice and Fire. But you can see why HBO didn't want to run a TV series with that name.
Was a bit skeptical coming in to this for various reasons, but after watching the first episode...HOLY SHIT AMAZEBALLS ITS GREAT. I absolutely loved it. The violence is well done without being excessive as is the swearing and sex (thus far). What I'm most excited about is the political aspect of the story. All of the scheming between the wife of the king and the two brother/sister brats from across the ocean is going to be super interesting. A+ first episode! I'm hooked.
The kid that plays Joffrey is nailing it, so far. He hasn't even talked yet, and I already hate him. Lena Heady has a pretty great ass for an old broad. Danny is gorgeous. Weren't the Targaryens supposed to have purple eyes? I'd have thought they'd do contacts or something for that. I want a wolf.
I thought the first episode was incredibly well done. Obviously, they've had to gloss over some bits, but I think the writers did an amazing job of keeping the main threads of the story. There wasn't a bad acting performance in the lot. I'm really excited to see more of Tyrion, as he's probably my favorite character from the books, and Peter Dinklage fucking nailed it. Just a really fabulous adaptation, I really hope that the costs of production are manageable, because I would hate for this series to end after one season. The sets and costumes were amazing. Can't wait for next week!
Definitely an engrossing opening for someone who hadn't read the books. Based on what I saw, I started reading A Game of Thrones last night, and the book is absolutely amazing.
I read the first book about six years ago and stopped about halfway through the second book. The problem that I had with the books, and will probably have with the show as well, is there are too many story lines. As this show goes on, if it follows the books closely as the first episode has, it will begin to add more and more storylines and characters that the average viewer, who didn't read the books, will be able to follow. The other major problem with the books was when Martin would drop an interesting story line for so long I would forget what had been hapening in it when he did decide to bring it back up almost a full book later. I don't know if they'll be able to pull that off in the show where audiences don't have the necessary attention spans. That being said the first episode was beautiful. The sets, costumes, acting, and storytelling were extremely well done and I'm looking forward to the next one even though I'm a bit skeptikal.
Just watched the pilot again. Does anyone else see Jamie Lannister's actor playing his part with a lot of the same attitude and mannerisms James Purefoy put into Antony for Rome?
God, fuck Joffrey in his stupid little prick face. I feel strange after watching the first episode. I'm seeing the never ending path of the story pan out in into infinity. It'll be so much work watching all of this shit. Of course, it's great though.
Thank God, I thought I was the only one. I loved the first book, and was following the second one til about halfway through. Then I suddenly found that the characters that were being focused on, except for Tyrion, I didn't give a shit about anymore. So I gave up reading it. But the first episode was awesome and I look forward to more.
After seeing the second episode I have a few thoughts: - Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! - They did an amazing job casting Joffery and Sansa, because I fucking hate them both (just like the books). - I loved Daenerys' three slave helpers and the camp scene with Tyrion and John Snow. I think HBO did a good job with taking both those scenes from the book and translating it onto the screen. It is almost exactly how I pictured it reading Game of Thrones for the first time. - Every time Lena Headly comes on screen I am completely taken out of the universe. As a huge fan of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, all I see is Sarah Connor. I keep waiting for Cromartie or Summer Glau to step into the room and waste everyone. - If they keep moving at this pace, I feel like they are not going to finish the first book in ten episodes or they are going to skip a significant amount of material.
Haven't read the book, but liked the first episode much. I think I've found my spring filler until True Blood. How many episodes are in this season?
