Also, the books are the same way. Minor characters get promoted to perspective characters all the time, and as I recall most of the perspectives in the 4th book (first half at least) are either minor characters or completely new ones. So at least those of us who read them can sympathize with the confusion.

I haven't read the books, but haven't people said that the first half of the 2nd book was really slow and just kind of used to set stuff up? If so, they're probably moving fast so they can get to more important things like titties and killing.

I've found that with all of the books. The first half tends to be really slow, with Martin basically moving characters to where he wants them, then unleashing the drama and action in the 2nd half. That was my complaint with every book: it was somewhat tedious to get through the first half, but the second half was tough to put down.

As for the series, I guess I find it easy to follow because I've read it, but I do find myself pausing it a lot to explain things to my wife, like who Theon is.

Finally, I'll throw this in spoilers, as it discusses Daenerys' storyline slightly, but it is only mildly spoilerish (no major revelations or anything):

I just recall being disappointed that her role in the 2nd book was so small. It felt like there were only a couple of Dany chapters, and those were just thrown in to keep her in the book. I don't know if the series will expand her role, but she really didn't do much in book 2, which was more focused on Westeros and the war.

I will say that having read the books, it makes watching the show alot more difficult because you see how they're leading up to the awesome stuff and then the episode ends. They keep flashing the scene of Melissandre on the boat in the teasers. I'm looking forward to seeing how that is done.

Brienne of Tarth is even uglier than I imagined from her description in the books. Only now do I see how she relates to Arya's character.

I'm glad they included the scene where the pirate talks about wanting to fuck the queen. I remember thinking that was hilarious in the book.

We should make a running list of the best tits on the show, major and semi-major characters only. It would be futile to include prostitutes that show up for 30 seconds topless. The worst pair is easily Theon's salt wife. I can't decide between Dany's and Melissandre's for the best.

God, the classic Yahoo Answers question just got even more complicated.

How was shadow babby formed, anyhow? I'm assuming Stannis ejaculated semen, meaning that she turned whatever he ejaculated into a shadow, which makes her...not human? I'm confused.

Joffrey needs to die. That sick fuck made me feel very horrible and sad. I feel terrible for whomever he eventually ends up fucking. I'm pretty sure he won't be able to cum unless he's simultaneously slitting her throat open.

    Qarth is beautiful.

Arya is awesome. I love her new bedtime mantra. Also, the boobs she seems to have sprouted overnight--isn't she supposed to be, like, 12? That makes no sense chronologically or biologically.

Lady Stark is going to be PISSED AS FUCK when she finds out that Arya isn't in the hands of the Lannisters and that dude who owns the whorehouse lied to her.

Anyone else think Renly should suck his pride up and join his older brother? No? Just me?

Is it wrong that I have a crush on Robb Stark purely because of that sweet Direwolf? That thing is badass.

    Weirdest. Ending. EVER.

Tyrion and Bronn are walking away with this season. Not much action, just a lot of double crossing and triple crossing. It's like Once Upon A Time In Mexico sans the Mexicans. Though I'd love Antonio Banderas to kneecap Joeffrey with his badass antique double-barrel.

Umm... did they steal a torture scene from (of all the fucking movies) 2 Fast 2 Furious or is it just me? The rat thing in the bucket.

Natalie Dormer is still so hot.

Robb is awesome, but why is he wearing guyliner this season?

And "Ghost" is my favourite dire wolf.

The guy that is playing Stannis has him down to a fucking tee, awesome episode. Hilarious how Renly's sexuality is being brought to light more in the tv series than it was in the books.

Am I the only one who this she's got one of those faces that has a constant look of ditzy retardedness to it? I mean she's got a smoking bod but ditzy ass look to her. Kind of like the hooker that was being beaten has a goofy look to her, and Theons salt wife. The show really knows how to cast goofy looking people. Robb's little nurse girl looks fine as hell and even birthing a ghost Milisandra is smoking. Perfect titties. Perfect.

A lot of people have been saying the books start slow and then get going half way through. This season so far has been on the slower side to start. It'd be sweet if they released a Lord of The Rings style extended or complete DVD set that has everything that had to be cut. Gives me another reason to blow my hard earned money on DVDs.

Awesome as that would be, I wouldn't expect it. Lord of the Rings was a fairly unique case for a couple reasons:

    1) Peter Jackson's shooting style is basically shoot as much as you can, get a bunch of takes, and edit everything into a first cut. Once you have that, then start to pare down. Due to the lower costs in New Zealand, and the fact that New Line was so far away, Jackson had a lot more leeway to shoot as he wanted (and as much as he wanted), whereas I would expect GoT does a lot of "pre-cutting" while writing the script to keep costs down.

    2) Lord of the Rings is a fairly massive work, and they had to compress it to a theatrical length of 9 hours. That pretty much guaranteed that good, solid material was going to be cut for time constraints alone. Most other films cut scenes because the scenes aren't good enough for the final film. It's rare to have a wealth of riches like LotR did. Considering that Game of Thrones has twelve hours per book, instead of just 9 for the whole series, it's unlikely they're going to have A+ material overflow the way LotR did.

That's all true. Part of me just wants to believe there are an additional five hours of sex scenes they pared back for time constraints.

haha, I don't think the writers would stoop to appropriating something from the fast and the furious..but still, that kind of killed the seriousness of that scene.

Also, horrible way to end an episode. They should've ended with Renly dieing, I don't know how they can show that now without it being anticlimactic.

Good god yes. When she first came on camera, I remarked that she had to be someone cause they don't waste a girl that hot on someone random on a battlefield. Similarly to how I knew the one blond wife in John Snow's storyline was going to be significant cause she was Cassie from the first couple of season of Skins.

The original merchant from Qarth was awesome just cause he was so damn peculiar in his speech. Loved that. Similarly, I can't decide if Daenerys is a badass or a delusional moron. But either way, I love when she gets firey.

Kudos to casting and acting for making Joffrey easily the most unlikeable fuckface on TV at the moment.

Also, token statement about Dinklage absolutely killing it yet again.

Nobody could possibly like him, I'm surprised he doesn't get beat up in public just for owning that role so well. However, you obviously haven't met Karen or Frank from Shameless yet. To be fair, they have more of a real-life repulsiveness to them.

Amen to that. Karen made me irrationally angry. And Macy owned the delusional justification-like personality that only an addict can have.

    Sorry to derail.

This isn't a personal attack on you, but can we do something about the whole spoiler tags system for this show? I don't see why we need to wrap things from the latest episode in tags. It seems like at least half the people here have read the books, and since there's no way to tell between things wrapped in tags from the latest episode and things from the books that haven't happened yet, it's like playing spoiler roulette by clicking on anything.

And if someone hasn't seen the latest episode of the show, why would they want to read the thread discussing it?
