I was annoyed at first with the small changes made between the books and the show but thought they fit. When they started the major departures I thought "oh shit they're going to ruin the feel of the books and I'm not going to like it". I think Parker mentioned it before that it is exciting to be watching the show and not now what is going to happen now. I agree with that. It is different but now we, book readers, are just as shocked when some things happen as those who didn't read the books. I'm ok with the changes now and in a way I'm excited to watch and also read how it all ends.

Echoing Iczorro, I really fucking hope the books get finished before Martin dies because I need to read the ending too.

Look dude, I get that you don't like the show, but this is entering crazy territory. The writers are lying about what happened in scenes now? I didn't think it was a rape when I watched it, and if you watch the subsequent episodes there wasn't any rapey fall out so it seems pretty clear it's what they intended. Or you think it was really supposed to be a rape and they act completely natural with each other afterwards?

I'm sure plenty of viewers could tell it wasn't a rape, but when you see something fairly generic for what it is you typically don't hop on a soapbox ranting about it all over the internet.

Then again, if you want to go with your bizarre theory go for it. I really don't give a shit at this point.

    Two things:
    - It was no more a 'rape scene' than the first season when Daenerys (sp?) was married to Kal Drogo and they fucked on the beach.
    - In the context of that world, I don't know if a woman can refuse her husband. Clearly, on the alter during the ceremony, she knew he was a bad person and consciously made the choice to accept him. It was their wedding night; sex would have been expected for both parties.

I can't believe we have no issue with scenes of castration or murder but this storyline is gumming up the works.

If were are going with what seems like a rape scene, Sansa's scene seemed a lot more rapey than the Cersai scene.

The story is finished. Martin knows how it will end and has related it to trusted sources in case he DOES die. Right now he is contemplating an epilogue book to follow A Sign Of Spring "if the fans want it enough".

As for the fans uncomftorable with the show's subject matter IT IS A FUCKING R-RATED TELEVISION SHOW. Jesus Christ are people adults anymore? You're watching scripted actors, not a snuff film. Watch the show or fuck off, just stop bitching like your TV remote doesn't work when it "offends you". The next time somebody pussies up like this Im going to direct them towards the crucifixion-cock hacking scene from Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

I went to the Rush concert in St. Paul last week, and during "Roll the Bones" they had a big video in the back with Peter Dinklage, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Tom Morello, and The Trailer Park Boys doing the rapping part. It was pretty awesome.

Rape is the cause celebre of the day. I thought the scene was rough to watch but it's a rough and unapologetic show. It's rough watching characters I cared about get murdered at a dinner feast, it's rough watching another get abused on her wedding night.

I don't get the whole "well in the dark ages and in this universe" it couldn't really be rape since sex was what was expected on their wedding night! Seemed like she was raped by a lot of standards no? I am actually more anxious to see how her character handles it than most of the other story lines int he show. One of the more interesting turns in her story. I don't get the people who say it wasn't needed for her story arch, as if they know what her whole story should and will end up being?

This is the kind of show where Ramsay might kill both Thein and Sansa just for his amusement. And I kind of hope that sort of happens, because fuck audience pandering. Good things happen to bad people way more than vice-versa, that's life. I like Sansa and feel horrible for her constantly, but not kneeling to the Low Common Denominator fans is primarily what makes this show great for me.

It's funny that you say that VI, because the TV reviewers who have not read the books and have avoided all spoilers, like Andy Greenwald from Grantland, think this is the best season yet with the exception of this last episode. Like reading this and the AV Club "for Newbies" the reviews have been consistently higher for this season. It's really interesting, because they've been citing the stronger connection of themes and the exposition being drastically reduced.

Also in regards to rape, it's supposed to be looked at different in this book because 1) overall life as a women in this world isn't great. 2) a lot of these marriages aren't out of love, they're for political reasons more than anything else. When that wedding night comes, both parties know it is going down as the tradition is both of them are usually stripped naked and taken to their beds. So it either happens consensually or not so much.

Why does it appear people (including yourself) give a fuck if I watch this show? I don't like the show anymore, so I bailed. Am I in here week after week telling you all that you're idiots for watching it? No. I hope you guys continue to enjoy the show. For me, and again, as I've stated 400 fucking times, only as regards to me, it doesn't do the job anymore. You can disagree as to whether it's better than the book, but ultimately, you can't disagree with the fact that I personally find it inferior. It's a normative, not objective, criterion. For me, for the 401st time, it doesn't do the story or characters justice. You disagree. Critics disagree. Ok great. Like I give a shit. I'm still not watching it. George Martin has no problem with the changes, according to the blog. Again, great. Again, couldn't care less. It's just not for me. The only reason I chimed in is the whole 'it's not a rape scene' argument with Jaime/Cersei from last season. Again, others feel the way they do about it, but I'm going to guess if that scene occurred in real life, I'd be in jail.

So are the hardcore book nerds in panic mode yet that GRRM might retcon his future books to fit more in line with what the show has done? Im not sure retcon is the right word but there are plenty of examples of authors changing the universe of their work for sequels to fit the narrative after the original blew up in another medium.

I don't care if you watch the show or not. You're just an example of the extreme book watcher so you're used as an example. It's just interesting paying attention to the dichotomy of the views and how the whole thing is being discussed. That's all, what I did disagree with you on, in the relation to the books themselves was your view of the overall story being a battle for Jamie's soul. But that's not a book vs. TV discussion.

Also, there is zero fear of George RR Martin doing anything to fit the show. What he's trying to do is add more complexity to the books. It came out a few months ago about how he thought about another twist for a character he hadn't planned before. Now he's not upset with the changes, but part of him thought that it'd allow him to catch up so it hasn't. The destination has always been the same, he's just going to make sure his ride getting there is fucking nuts.

Don't fuck with Jorah Mormont. Egads.

And I thought Bronn was going to buy it there for a second. It would be a shitty way for such an awesome character to die, but WHAT A VIEW he had for it. Where did those come from? GodDAMN. Absolute perfection.

YeahI love this show's gratuitous nudity. That girl was smoking hot.

Why the fuck doesn't Milisandre just keep fucking Stannis and creating more shadow assassins? I mean shit. I also thought Sam was badass when he stood up to the guys trying to rape his girl. Plus he gets rewarded for it. Sccchhhhhhwing!

Apparently she can only use each royal blood once. She can't keep going back to the same well. Also, if she could the story would have been over in book 2.

Yeah, those tits were fucking perfect. My god. You see tits like that, and you just don't know how to fucking act. Tyrion hasn't gotten to Dany in the books yet so this is so fucking exciting to see how this shit goes.

Well then, they really blew their load on Renly then. Then again she leeched what's his face and still wanted to sacrifice him for more magic n' shit.

It actually is kind of funny how much they go out of their way to put stuff like that in every episode. Was that scene actually necessary? I suppose the answer is both yes and no.

Cersei is pretty damn stupid for not having seen this coming when she knew full well that Lancel was part of the freak brigade. I hope she gets burned at the stake.

And how long is Tommen going to keep being such a pussy? He's letting a band of mental pantients run his city. It's getting really pathetic.

Honestly, I had no problems with the scene (other than VI's very accurate disappointment with Littlefinger), but Sansa is definitely getting raped. Every night. Just because I KNOW a dude is going to stick his dick in me does not mean I'm super cool with it, same for her acceding to a wedding that Baelish told her to go through with in order to avenge her family. Sunday's episode confirms, she is getting raped all day err day (or all night, as it were).

Basically, keeping someone locked up and showing up at night to bone them = sex slavery. Just because they're married doesn't mean shit.

The real issue is whether it should bother people the way it did, and I maintain absolutely not, this show is all sorts of fucked and this is hardly the worst thing to happen. The fact that Sansa retains all of her tits at this point should be a cause for celebration, cuz the books only know what Ramsay could get up to.

The fucking annoying part of the show is that it looks like Littlefinger is being controlled by other people. BullSHIT that Cersei summoned him so he had to show up and give her something. That doesn't happen to Littlefinger. And now he's trying to right things by running to the Tyrells...blech. I like the show, I really do, but it makes me sad that way they've handled the Alayne/Sansa/Baelish storyline, which is my favorite in the books. I was so excited for Sansa to use getting used as a catalyst to be a better badass, and now it looks like the writers are gonna have her...what? Wait for Baelish to show up and rescue her? I'll be so mad if that's the case.

However, so happy that Tyene is as fun in the show as she was in the books. I liked the idea of the Sand Snakes, probably because I like whorish brown women with swords, so I am happy they are throwing the hottest one at Bronn.
