I want this. Amazon currently has the hardcover for under $30, and the kindle edition for $20. Might as well get physical, physical.

    Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhocking.

It's only been a mere four years. If we have it before 2017 I'll be profoundly startled.

It's pretty clear at this point, I think, that he's just going to let HBO finish it. This year and next they should still have enough material from the books to go off of, and I could see Martin having TWoW out by Spring 2017. But that and A Dream of Spring by 2018? Not a chance, unless he were to start writing as fast as he was on A Storm of Swords. So, I'm assuming his attitude towards both books is just "fuck it." He's said that HBO has the outline for the rest of it.

Right now there's a big "yeah, but in the book" component to the story line.... but imagine the nerd-focus if that book element was removed completely, and the ONLY place you could get any of it would be from HBO.

I wonder how much HBO would be willing to pay him to stall the finish of the book?

At the same time, the book people's whining has been pretty under the breath. I'm one of those book people and with exception of excluding a certain character with a heart of stone, nothing has been really RAGE worthy. Strong Belwas would have been cool, but everyone isn't losing sleep over it.

Also, these next two books, definitely welcome some TV changes to cut out all the boring meandering and possible meaningless shit that happened in them. I think even the book people are welcoming some upgrades to the story now with the second chance.

Yeah, there is a ton of fat that can be trimmed from the next to books. I enjoyed them, but the pacing was much different than the first three. I think they'll still get 2 season out of Feast and Dance, but it will be presented much differently.

I think the stuff that's supposed to be running concurrently will actually be shown concurrently in this story.

Yeah, I definitely see them running the events of AFfC and ADwD together, as Martin should have done it in the first place.

"Awkwardly" would have been splitting a chapter, or ending on an infinitive.

The way he did it was shitastic. There's no other word for the abortion that was that split. The Schism in the Catholic Church was less awkward.

I hope that things get back on track now that he's getting to the end game.... but that's probably unlikely. I try not to be one of the ASOIF fans that gets angry at Martin, but it's really hard sometimes.

Do I have something for you guys, assuming it hasn't been posted earlier in the thread!

There was a fan a while back who went through and re-did all of the chapters chronologically. I've been planning on doing a reread for some time and have this printed out to go along with it. Here it is, AFFC/ADWD Chronological chapter order: http://bit.ly/1rDa8fT

Scroll down for the list of chapters, scroll even more for the guy's explanation of the choices he made and why.

Oh I did, it's fantastic. I have to go buy DoD because I can't remember who I loaned my copy to. I'm going to read AFFC and DoD in the order of that article in preparation for the new season.

This is precisely what I was afraid of. Early on in the series, I would not have been so worried, as the producers/writers were painstaking in their homage to the books. Given the recent seasons (and some really, really cheap hack moves that deviated from the books greatly), I'm now concerned that the tv series - written by people that are no where near Martin in storytelling prowess if their deviations are any indication - may well drive the ending.

The reason I say this is because though Martin has told them how he 'plans' to end the books, Martin has notoriously changed and rewritten things in the books. Let's not forget, this was supposed to a series of three books that has ballooned into 7 (and justifiably so) because the story changed. Frankly, if Martin does finish up Book 6 this year, I'd put filming on hiatus until he finished Book 7.

I have zero faith in the writers telling the story better than Martin.

I wouldn't say I have zero faith in shows creators to continue creating a great show, but I know it won't be as good without the books guiding the way. I think that Martin will probably become more involved in the show after this season which would be a good thing for the show. Not so much for those of us who prefer to read the ending of the series first. If you've been a fan of the series since AFFC you had to see this coming though. It's disappointing that I have to watch the conclusion of this epic as opposed to reading it, but I'm going to try to not let that damper my enjoyment of the show.
