What's their endgame, really? They're betting everything on SCOTUS going "hey you're right, these millions of votes across multiple states should be tossed and their legislatures should simply declare Trump the winner". I know the three Justices owe their place to Trump but it's not like he can take it back, he has no power over them.
It's a combination of things. A few are delusional enough to think they might actually keep Trump in office, but I think the majority are just trying to keep the base angry and stupid. Or are terrified of crossing a base that is already angry and stupid.
So if/when the effort fails utterly and they find themselves as the Republicans who actively sought to steal an election, will they just rest back on their Trumpist base and not even lose their next election?
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/skbaer/list-republican-house-members-overturn-election This is incredible. Its setting the state for years of intransigent fuckery, because half of their colleagues "weren't legitimately elected." Without. A. Shred. Of. Evidence. Given how the GOP has handled the election, pandemic and governance in general....fuck em. Yeah, let's run it back. See if y'all do any better next time. I'm calling my state representative today and letting his office know if they don't come up with some evidence or a solid legal argument, don't bother showing up next election. I genuinely can't understand how so many people can't wrap their heads around this. Like there is zero overlap between conspiracy theorists and project managers or event planners: yall have clearly never attempted to get 8 people to do their jobs at the same time, because you would know the shit you're describing is too far fetched for a Hydra plot in Captain America.
I am pleasantly surprised to see our Congressman's name is not on that list. I thought for sure I'd have to type a strongly worded letter this morning.
Why do you think Giuliani went after the mafia so hard? So his buddies the GOP could take their place. Now everyone can see it: crybaby, power-hungry thugs too fucking lazy and spoiled to ever know how to perform at a job properly. Enough talk. Sit them down and shut them the fuck up. It’s sooooooooo pathetic.
Trump wants to argue in person in front of SCOTUS that he won the election. https://nationalpost.com/news/world...as-bid-to-undo-election-loss-at-supreme-court Oh please... part of me really wants to see this happen. Let's not forget what Trump's ex-lawyer told Mueller a couple years ago: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/09/ex-trump-lawyer-told-mueller-trump-is-too-dumb-to-testify Dowd then explained to Mueller and Quarles why he was trying to keep the president from testifying: “I’m not going to sit there and let him look like an idiot. And you publish that transcript, because everything leaks in Washington, and the guys overseas are going to say, ‘I told you he was an idiot. I told you he was a goddamn dumbbell. What are we dealing with this idiot for?’ ” Later that month, Dowd told Trump: “Don’t testify. It’s either that or an orange jumpsuit.” But Trump, concerned about the optics of a president refusing to testify and convinced that he could handle Mueller’s questions, had by then decided otherwise. “I’ll be a real good witness,” Trump told Dowd, according to Woodward. “You are not a good witness,” Dowd replied. “Mr. President, I’m afraid I just can’t help you.” The next morning, Dowd resigned.
In keeping with Trump bizzaro world, we have two new states filing an amicus to support the Texas lawsuit. https://twitter.com/grace_panetta/status/1337444327656747014
They may as well say they’re representing the planet of Uranus. Because in Imaginationland you’re whoever you say you are, just ask the current President.
Hey speaker Pelosi, make this happen! Fight back against these seditious traitors. https://twitter.com/BillPascrell/status/1337482153752453120
Annnnd SCOTUS has rejected the Texas suit for lack of standing. As predicted by everyone who ever so much as swung by a law school to use the bathroom.
It's one of those pedantic things about original jurisdiction. There's a line in the Constitution: Which Alito and Thomas take to mean that the Court must hear any case in which a state shall be a party. Their dissent today was basically "we are obligated to hear this case because Texas, Pennsylvania, etc are the parties," but they did not indicate they thought Texas would succeed on the merits. Basically 7 justices said "fuck outta here" and 2 said "come on in, so we can tell you 'fuck outta here' from inside the court."
to be honest I kinda wanted to see rudy try to argue this one in the Supreme Court. Unfortunately getting it there would lend this case a sense of legitimacy, so maybe if they did like a charity thing on the weekends where they took up clearly unconstitutional cases, let the attorneys argue these absurd claims, and then tore them apart and disbarred them on PPV tv? Proceeds toward COVID relief, of course, because apparently the government isn't going to get us anymore of that anytime soon
