Trump has stopped funding to WHO because it is somehow their fault that your country is in dire straights, not the person who ignored it and called it a hoax.

The reason your country has the highest death count is because of terrible leadership, starting with him. That leadership continues to try and kill as many people daily as possible, why else would you be stupid enough to encourage crowding again?

Trump just blamed ALL of his fuck ups during the Covid 19 response on the WHO.

"Nobody knew anything. There was nothing I could do. There was endless false reports from the WHO, who I suspect might be in bed with China."

Ok, I'm paraphrasing, but that's basically what he said.

you know it's getting ugly when even Fox News is criticizing him

If watching him was like watching the world burn, then the wind just started blowing the other direction and that fire is coming back around.

**edit** Also, about that stimulus check. Hope you don't owe the bank anything.

He can try to squeeze states with federal funds, but that's a long drawn-out process and the states are likely to win those court cases in the end. He can't actually order compliance however, the states have clear policing powers under the Tenth Amendment which he cannot touch.

Fox news just reported that there are signs that while the WHO dropped the ball, the federal government might have, I stress might have, missed some of the indicators a global pandemic was imminent.

Then they speculated that Covid 19 escaped from a Chinese medical lab. "The absence of evidence is not absence of proof."

That’s not an executive order. That’s him being an asshole to a major part of your country that he swore to serve.

He can't force states into cooperating with state resources, he can direct the federal organizations.

Hopefully not pressure means he isn't going to tell any of these organizations not to cooperate with the states, but the man's mind changes like the wind.

It's almost conceivable we're going to reach a point where federal employees start ignoring orders outright.

Well that was dumb. He just put his name, literally, on a "socialism" program. So now he can't deny it. There's an actual receipt.

By the way, if you have direct deposit, check your account Didn't realize that with the filing extension, if you haven't filed your taxes for 2019 they go by your 2018 filings. So we got a nice bit of economic stimulus a few hours ago. We expected to be over the threshold, especially since we were filing jointly. Papa's getting a new gun!!!... once stores actually have them in stock again. Boredom is expensive.

2019 is probably my most abnormal tax year on record. $7k in freelance earnings, about $20k from cashing in thirty year old T-bills, and no W2 earnings. I feel a little dirty that I'm probably going to get stimulus money based on that aberration.

That's the thing, for one you need to have a non free emails so they need to be School, isp, or professional emails and the other has a $10 membership fee and as far as I know is something of a shell of itself. And yeah they all voted Bernie or had every intention of doing so before things got called.
I wouldn't even call that accurate since the people voted for Biden and the DNC is just abiding by that.

    They beg to differ.

Or more accurately beg voters to differ after Trump's week of unending fuck ups. He pulled WHO funding because he didn't know where else to turn for a scapegoat, and then claimed doctors make decisions based on political correctness.

    Even for Trump, unfuckingbelievable.

The US is not stopping funding, its pausing funding for 60-90 days while it investigates whether it helped China cover up the early signs of the outbreak. Which evidence is starting to point to that being the case. The US is also, by the far, the largest single financial contributor to the WHO with over $400M last year alone. Thats more than China contributed in the last decade. It seems to be an attempt by the US to leverage that funding imbalance to force a restructuring, or at least try to determine if thats needed. I don't see how any of this is unreasonable. I don't know many people have a huge hard-on for the declination of US influence, but lets at least discuss the merits of what's actually occurring.

And as far as China goes, the US and Europe are beginning to shut down the import of manufactured goods from China, industry-by-industry. China is shuttering factories at a high rate because they have nowhere to ship anything. This recovery story they're selling the World is pretty much bullshit.

Pulling the funding in the middle of a global pandemic of this scale is disastrous. Only for 3 months when they need it most.

I'm open to the idea that the WHO assisted China with its cover up, but I haven't seen any of that evidence at this point. What is it? There is a difference between making mistakes, failing to read some signs, and actively partaking in a cover up. Lower scale pandemics are comparatively frequent to those that shut down the global economy, and it's unusual that they're both this contagious and have such a wide breadth in severity of symptoms across the populous.

I'm all for revisiting our relationship with the WHO and evaluating what we're really getting out of paying in so much more than other countries, but there's ways to do that without just yanking the funding with no notice because Trump needed someone to deflect blame towards, which he is OBVIOUSLY doing here. I don't buy for a second that this move has nothing to do with political calculations and mounting criticism towards the administration. Particularly when it takes place over a week even the right wing has been less than friendly toward his efforts.

Kampf, I'm surprised that you, of all people, are against Trump doing this; you've seen China's chicanery first-hand.

I've been looking into the WHO since this all started, and they seem to be as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

WHAT HAVE THEY DONE DURING THIS PANDEMIC EXCEPT TELL PEOPLE NOT TO WEAR MASKS, BECAUSE THEY "DO NO GOOD AGAINST THE VIRUS"?

It seems to me that the countries doing best against the virus are the ones who DIDN'T follow the WHO's advice.

If China really has their hand that far up the WHO's ass, let them pay their fair share.
