Nothing really. I'd love to see it go through though. But if that's her hold-up she needs to evaluate the plus's and minuses.
It's only tangential, but if we're going to use taxpayer dollars to bail out a highly polluting industry like the airline industry, it would not be amiss to put emissions-based strings on that money.
If Trump, or the republicans were holding up aid for ideological reasons you would be fucking losing it. I do agree that a lot of the stuff in there is good (except for stuff like the diversity board crap) but this is really not the time. They have plenty over the next four years to work on everything else.
The one thing I do like about AOC is she is serious about getting corruption out. Beyond that... meh. If she wants to take a leftward movement anywhere she needs to stop acting like such a bitch. And yes, she really does. She can pretend people hate her because she's a latina, but that's not the reason. The voters loved Nikki Haley, this country can accept brown women these days. She's going to be primarying a lot of establishment dems throughout 2022. I feel like she will have some success and completely miscalculate, thinking she is moving forward whereas she is really just driving straight into a brick wall. She can only go so far with how she's doing things right now and it's not very far.
Personally, I think people might give more of a shit about unchecked corporate bailouts than they would about diversity boards, but that's just me.
I don't give a shit about diversity boards, but there's a giant irony in us looking at people not social distancing and saying "don't those idiots know a storm is coming?" when we're collectively doing the exact same thing about climate change. If we have an opportunity to reduce emissions, take it.
So if Trump started using this to fund his border wall then that's fine as long as it's something he thinks is a good idea?
Oh ok, so as long as you feel like you have better ideas it's completely appropriate to let the country burn in hopes that burning it might let you implement some. I can't believe you guys are defending this.
By the way guys, they aren't getting ANY of their agenda done if they lose their seats and give total republican control. That is what they will do if they keep this bullshit up. I guarantee you the average american is not sitting at home thinking "Gee, I would love if Washington could spend a little more time arguing about whether funding JFK center arts belongs on a relief bill."
Looks like they finally came to a deal. It took way longer than it should have, but at least it's done. Edit: nvm, not sure the house agreed yet.
It's morbidly amusing seeing some of you blindly solely blame one party or the other for the delay in moving this legislation forward. GOP started with a 500B slush fund, Dems started with diversity boards and climate change regulations. It's a shitty, partisan process but it seems like we've landed at something decent. $1200 checks for individuals, $500/kid for those making up to 75k, prorated after to 99k. Expanded unemployment benefits. Relief and emergency funding for states, hospitals, etc. Small business incentives for keeping people on payroll. Checks, balances and oversight for large corporation bailouts. The full text isn't available, but this seems like a great compromise between worker/business needs. Let's see if it passes Congress and actually gets signed by Trump though.
Anyone else notice how the coronavirus kind of helps Biden? All campaign he has been running a limited exposure strategy. Now, he actually has an excuse.
The fact that Trump has bungled this is, has had nonstop negative coverage, and is hated by so many people, and yet still has a 60% approval rating for dealing with this kind of says it all. I'm glad the democrats are finally coming to their senses though.
Looks like it it will go through, since it's bi-partisan and contains plenty of the sweet sweet "socialism" everyone is scared of. Some details here. I am completely relieved the bill passed. Don't agree with everything in it (that has been reported) but who gives a flying shit at this point. Of note, each adult gets $1200 and each child gets $500. It'll be interesting to see how trump deals with that one in the debates.
